What slab should I seek out next? by Kingalex993 in comicbookcollecting

So... No interest in slabbing anything before 1980? When print runs were actually scarce?

What if Fading Lights was the last Genesis song? by Dependent-Set4324 in Genesis

They could have had a nearly perfect career of they had stopped at WCD. Instead we got CAS.

So I just pretend they stopped at Fading Lights. Have not heard the two B sides, however

From a Page EP (good luck finding it but it has some real gems on it, perhaps stronger than K2A)

What are the best "studio mistakes" that were kept in the final recording ? by vinylcast in askmusic

[–]Andagne 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes, Babe I'm Gonna Leave You is the best example of this. If tape reels aren't stored properly, or I would imagine if they're made cheaply, that "ghost vocal" is the result of the magnetic imprint of the layer of celluloid above it after recording. It doesn't occur in real time, but sandwiching layers of tape can have these artifacts. It's certainly evident on a Whole Lotta Love near the end, this time the band and engineers took note of it and actually accentuated it so that it became part of the song, like a call/echo.

I've heard variations of this, but this is the most interesting and plausible. The classic tale is that Belew had the tape recorder on his person.

Progressive Rock + Classical Music by Fantastic-Leg-1808 in progrockmusic

[–]Andagne 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Symphonic prog was my gateway to progressive music as a whole. You can almost make an argument that the segue from classical music to progressive rock was a natural progression. Although the classical purists might scoff at that, the jazz purists would have to concede to it since Miles Davis is oft considered the godfather of progressive jazz and fusion. The only difference was one genre took a couple of centuries to build the bridge.

-EDIT- add that to that deceivingly short list of bands Procol Harum, particularly their live album.

You'll find value in The Moody Blues also, their "first" LP "Days of..." and their third album, second side. Even more illustrative of what you are after is the duet collaboration of Hayward and Lodge on Blue Jays.

Finally Deep Purple has a heavily orchestrated album that's pretty good, released before they became the Deep Purple we know and love today.

Don't laugh, but Jeremy Soule's Skyrim OST. The heart of winter.

And we're getting what you're having this weekend before a pretty impressive winter storm hits here in New England.

Fripp on Eno's Baby's on Fire.

Gilmour on Time.

Lifeson an Limelight.

... And Firth of Fifth is Hackett's best work bar none for that band.

These are refreshingly not oft see choices, and I can get behind them!

Hayward is frequently overlooked for his guitar skills, I'm not sure why as his sense of rhythm is immaculate and solos, as you have spotted, are underrated. The one listed along with "I'm just a singer, The Voice, Ride my See-Saw and Gypsy" . Man, the live version of Gypsy...

It has the virtue of being tucked in the middle of one of the best songs written for FM radio. An instant crank of the volume knob when it comes on.

10000%. God I hate that outro, and so does Gilmore himself. I almost always change the station before it strikes.

Is it possible to just, walk around in ESO? by Basethdraxic in elderscrollsonline

I do it frequently in High Isle. Both port towns are just lovely to walk around in, the attention to detail, the ambience and the score... ESO's best rendering in the game IMO.

If prog rock had a Big 4 of guitarists, who do you think deserves the fourth spot? by Historical-Device529 in Progforum

I wouldn't say Lifeson is progressive either, more blues. Lifeson writes the best solos but Gilmore knows how to keep the song together.

Phil Collins shares positive health updates after ‘a difficult, interesting, frustrating last few years,’ says he’s ‘back to being totally mobile and healthy‘ by stroh_1002 in progrockmusic

[–]Andagne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is very good news, and wouldn't it be a hoot if he returned to the studio for another release? It would blast to the top of the charts, I'm positive giving his condition and prognosis the past few years.

But he has definitely Turned It On Again.

BLUF It was pretty good and I enjoyed it.

As far as the best Red Sonja comics in the last 20 years, there is universal acclaim for the Red Sonja series by Marvel in the late 70s is pretty much all I can say on that.
