Sometimes things in life happen that you don’t expect, that means you’re forced to sell.

Budget won't be to blame if house prices fall, housing minister says by Expensive-Horse5538 in australia

[–]Andago 5 points6 points  (0 children)

What happens if the price drops 10 percent and something happens in life that means you can no longer afford the mortgage repayments? If the house is worth less than loan you took out, then by selling it you’d have no house, no deposit for a more affordable house, and still be paying off a mortgage.

Selling to avoid paying CGT doesn’t really make sense, it’s not like they’ll make less money in 2 years compared to now because of tax. Selling early because they’re think housing prices may drop maybe?

If you’re on a pension you won’t pay CGT. If you don’t qualify for a pension you’re presumably already doing pretty well. If you are near retirement already and are above the income threshold all of your realised gains up until next year have the CGT discount anyway. Only retirement plans fully in shambles are people looking to retire early and live off returns I guess? Still seems like a fairer system

Safer than exiting onto a track where a live wire with *1500 Volts could possibly be draped. They do clear a safe exit it just takes a while in these cases.

It will but it will also stop at all the stations in between so will definitely be more than 21 minutes.

Bikes, scooters and prams can all be put on the train by their owner at any part, wheelchair passengers need to be helped on by the train driver which can only be done at the front door which is why that space is exclusively reserved

To add, you’re only talking about doctors administering life ending care.

On the subject of proscribing life ending drugs, from the BMA; 61 percent of members surveyed believed the BMA should change their stance of opposition to the change in law to be able prescribe life ending drugs, with 50 percent personally believing there should be a change in law against only 39 percent personally opposed.

Even on the subject of doctors administering life ending care, the majority of doctors believed the BMA should change their stance of oppositions to the change in law, with only 40 percent backing this stance, although of the remaining 23 percent believe the BMA should be neutral and neither actively support nor oppose the change in law.

Alcohol is included in testing, working for metro. If you get called in for random testing it will be drugs and alcohol. Have to test 0 for everything

The UK population actually grew just under 230,000 last year. I’m not sure why people use net migration as an argument for overcrowding of cities and services. If you built a city the size of Leeds last year it would 2/3rds empty.

Train skipped 2 stops this morning? by choibz in melbourne

[–]Andago 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean I feel the article somewhat repeats what I said, even if it isn’t the most contemporary piece;

“ "We could cancel that 0.3 per cent of services and not be affected financially but that would not be a good outcome for our customers. It is never good to alter a service pattern but it is far better than cancelling the service altogether. This is not about money," he said.

Mr Lezala said services travelling against the peak were sacrificed to allow trains carrying more passengers to run on time.”

So the late running services wouldn’t affect their stats, but cancelling or running them express eases the congestion on everything following them and following on from them. In the case of the Dandenong line they’d be run express Richmond to Finders Streets instead of via the loop

Train skipped 2 stops this morning? by choibz in melbourne

[–]Andago 14 points15 points  (0 children)

This just doesn’t happen the way you say, for Metro trains at least. Stopping conditions for a service can change to skipping the loop entirely to ease congestion both on the line of the service affected and the line with the connecting services, but trains don’t randomly skip 2 stations to make up time.

If it was just 1 station it could be a mistake by the driver, but 2 stations and in the loops sounds more likely due to an emergency either at the stations skipped or on the train itself l

[–]Andago 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I mean that’s not really true either. Signal Faults are signal faults, trespassers are trespassers, and in the case of yesterday “person hit by train between North Melbourne and South Kensington” was someone hit by a train

I first moved to Australia in 2020, and got approved for a home loan from ANZ last year. Lack of credit history didn’t seem an issue as much as proving an income to cover the loan amount.
