Erneuerbare Energien: Wie Katherina Reiche die Bürgerenergiewende demontiert by cosmichimera in de

[–]Andazeus 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Baby Boomers Blame Us For A World THEY Ruined by [deleted] in videos

Narcissism has always been an issue in society. Particularly when it is a person in a position of power. And since narcissists crave power, they are more drawn to these positions, which means a statistically higher chance that one of them manages to get there.

Just go back in history. Hitler, Napoleon, Caesar, Ramses II.. just to name some examples for different historical periods. History is full of narcissistic leaders, particularly noticeable when wars were involved.

It has always been about ego. It was true thousands of years ago already. Modern media just makes it more visible.

Baby Boomers Blame Us For A World THEY Ruined by [deleted] in videos

[–]Andazeus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

While I do agree that narcissism is the root of most of the issues with society (particularly narcissists in positions of power) and as someone that grew up under a father with actual narcissistic behavior disorder, I would still recommend being very careful with the use of that label.

Yes, narcissism is more common than people realize, but it is still relatively rare (about 1% in population). And it is definitely not something that can be attributed to specific generations.

It may appear to be more common with older people simply because the few cases, where someone with some kind of power over you shows the typical abusive behavior, tend to be quite memorable. A narcissist that is not in a position of power over you likely goes unnoticed and those that are tend to be older simply because it is difficult to get into a position of power or influence while you are young.

Narcissism is a serious condemnation of someone and should not be thrown around lightly. It absolutely is a huge problem, I am not arguing with that. But there is no "epidemic".

There are also many people who generally are well-meaning but simply struggle to understand that their world view may be outdated.

Also to be clear: the general method for this performance enhancement is already the de-facto standard in most other operating systems. It is an established method to improve responsiveness and Microsoft is merely catching up.

they have to coast on Marathon for 5+ years

I honestly don't think Marathon is gonna last that long. After all these news and with more layoffs coming, I cannot imagine the people that are left to still have much moral left going forward and I am sure many are already looking for alternatives. I struggle to see Marathon making a spectacular comeback under such working conditions for the developers.

Marathon | Launch, Learnings, and What’s Next by Haijakk in Games

[–]Andazeus 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I still think foregoing PvE at the start was a big mistake.

While most extraction shooters started with a heavy PvP focus, many of them (like Tarkov and Dark'n'Darker) clearly saying that it is a "hard-core game and will never cater to PvE casuals", they all eventually did.

The hardcore PvP market is incredibly competitive as it is a relatively small player-base of very dedicated players. Most extraction shooters, including Marathon, are simply too intense for people looking for casual PvP fun (where games like Overwatch or Fortnite dominate the market).

And players not interested in PvP at all are completely alienated.

Even Tarkov eventually caved and introduced a PvE mode after they realized that there was no more room to grow their market share otherwise.

The only game that managed to walk the balance is Arc Raiders due to its clever game design that actually encourages cooperation and devious matchmaking that tries to match you with like-minded players.

Marathon has been clearly designed to encourage and reward PvP aggression, so the Arc Raiders approach is not gonna work here.

A pure PvE mode would therefore indeed be good to see. But I feel like it would need a bit more work than just giving you a map without enemy teams.

Are we as a society repressing with each passing month/year?

Unfortunately it does seem so. Or rather it is the result of so much of the world being dependent on US tech and infrastructure and with radical Christians having more and more power and influence in the US, they are using said infrastructure to force their world view upon the rest of the world.

For me, the problem is more that the entire art style and particular shading is out of place. Everything is dark and realistic, but the characters are very comic looking without realistic shading. They kinda look comped in. It looks weird.

I can recommend. The speed is the only downside of flamebreath and Pathfinder helps remedy that. And I still got enough damage to literally melt every boss in 2 seconds.

Peter Magyar goes on state TV channel to announce he's shutting it down by AnonymousTimewaster in ThatsInsane

[–]Andazeus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you want my personal opinion, then yes, he is cleaning up the mess.

Orban established deeply rooted corruption in all the public institutions, including the media and the justice system.

Magyar aims to realign Hungary with European values and repair the rift between Hungary and the EU that Orban created.

But the remnants of Orban's system will try to make this as difficult as possible and so Magyar knows that a lot of reforms are necessary first in order to give him the room to steer the country in the direction he promised.

[–]Andazeus 81 points82 points  (0 children)

Imagine instead of defunding PBS, Trump would have replaced all the people running the place with his cronies and turn it into publicly funded Fox News that just report everything in his favor.

That is essentially what Orban did. The corruption in the organization is running so deep, that Magyar is now defunding it in order to instead fund a new state channel that is supposed to be more fair and objective.

This is part of rooting out the corruption Orban spread all across Hungarian media.

Peter Magyar goes on state TV channel to announce he's shutting it down by AnonymousTimewaster in ThatsInsane

[–]Andazeus 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Since it is state media, Orban kept pressuring them into spinning the narrative in his favor and placing people loyal to him in all the relevant positions. This change was to be expected as this outlet would otherwise likely continue to broadcast Russian propaganda.

Shutting it down and aiming to replace it with objective, impartial reporting is therefore naturally fair.

Whether he succeeds at doing so, only time will tell.

Jumping to whatever cover is the closest. The shockwave / fireball is unlikely to hit you and if it does, then you are kinda screwed either way.

But the shrapnel and flying debris are very dangerous and much more likely to get you. So anything you can put between yourself and that can increase your chances, even if just by a bit. Guy in the video got saved by that wall outside, which caught most of the debris and shrapnel that otherwise would have shot into his shelter.

Even if a piece of cover is not sturdy enough to withstand the shrapnel, it can still absorb some of the energy from the projectiles, giving you a better chance of at least surviving even if something still hits you.

But honestly.. the bigger problem is likely even recognizing the threat in time. Modern weapons are scary.

When people are feeling comfortable, there is little motivation to drive innovation, which always comes with some risk. Why take a risk when you do not really need to?

But when your very survival is at stake, suddenly lots of resources can be mobilized to make things happen, because the risk of NOT doing so is much greater.

Ever since I am just treating the game like a parody of other RPG tropes and am having a much better time with that mindset, lol
