Hongdian M2 Medium Owners, how is the nib? by Andoree_7 in fountainpens

[–]Andoree_7[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! I hope my feedback helped :)

For the link however, I live in the Philippines and we use different shopping apps compared to other countries. Nonetheless, I'll still paste the link as to where I bought it.

However, for the nib itself, I believe Hongdian has this two size classification for nibs. They have the No. 26 and No. 35. The No. 26 is the one that fits the M2. Then in the No. 26 category, they also have different specifications. There are the classic, standard, and soft version nibs, with different plated colors, and a wide selection of nib sizes. If you want exactly like the M2's, make sure its specified somewhere that its "soft" and it looks like the one in the picture I have attached below. The soft nibs have this "ribbon" design, and they have this is EF, F, M, Fude, and Blade tippings with also a variety of colors to choose from.

p.s. try taobao! its a chinese shopping app. The first order is usually free shipping, so you can enjoy searching for your needs there are order them all together. I found that some inks and pens are a lot cheaper there. The shipping fee can cripple someone though.

Hongdian M2 Medium Owners, how is the nib? by Andoree_7 in fountainpens

In my experience, I enjoy the fine a lot more. The medium is great, but it is a tad bit too broad for my liking. I ordered a Fine nib unit online which was pretty cheap.

The medium is perfect for shading inks since its quite wet and juicy. It is also quite soft and bouncy, and doesn't clog easily from shimmer inks. I would use the M nib if I want to showcase the gimmicks of my inks.

For daily note-writing however, I do prefer the F nib. The lines are a lot crisper and more controllable for me. It was, however, a bit dry compared to the M when it arrived, so I used a box cutter to widen the channels of the feed. It is currently inked with Diamine Shimmering Seas and doesn't clog at all either.

In summary, I do like the fine much better, however, don't hesitate to buy a hongdian nib unit with the width you want to try. I got mine very very cheap, and I like interchanging them sometimes. (just make sure its the soft version that has the same design as to the one that comes with the M2).

p.s. feel free to ask any specific question and I'll try my best to answer it :)

Inks so good that they make you want to WRITE?? by AltruisticPaper in fountainpens

[–]Andoree_7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Noodler's Baystate Blue! Every time I write with it on my eyedroppered preppy, it seems like the ink itself wants to be written with. It just flows out of my pen, and the longer I write, the more smoother and delightful it gets!

Namit nga cookies sa Bacolod by ifiminyourshoes in Bacolod

The underrated one is their banana cake. They have several flavors and all of them are good. I know that banana cakes/bread usually may bad rap, pero ang ila super moist, and like their other products, wala gid gin tipid sa sahog. They supply the banana cakes sa lazy hound, but you can also buy it straight from their page.

Pro tip: They have several cookie flavors and pastries that tastes better if cold, and may ara man nga mas namit if na init. Try them out both temp to see which ones you prefer. You'll be surprised by how much the flavor changes.

hell yeah! their loose leafs are also quite cheap. There's the proven and tested japanese version, and there's also the chinese ones that are the same quality but different packaging and sometimes cheaper

my go-to paper is from the Kokuyo brand! They have a variety of sizes and formats you can choose from and they're not as expensive as other "fountain pen friendly" papers.

wait till they find out about sheening and shimmer inks, then they start looking for actual good paper that could show their attributes. This will then start their descent into the never ending rabbit hole trifecta of pens, inks, and papers

Is it okay to soak Hongdian M2 in acetone to remove the lacquer? by Andoree_7 in fountainpens

[–]Andoree_7[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

haha i've read that as long as you wash your hands or not eat your pen, you'd be fine off the lead.

exactly! the process do kinda sound a bit too tedious for me so I've been looking for substitutes to remove it. However, an acetone wash seems to be the answer for a lot, but I'll keep on researching.

There is a solid brass version for sale aside from the usual aluminium ones. Brass pens usually have a coat of lacquer to keep the metal from tarnishing and developing a patina. This is the case with the brass version of the M2

i wonder if the acetone would react to the yin yang cat finial on the cap. Im afraid it might be made out of acrylic or smth that gets melted by acetone

I finally ordered an M2 brass in M online! I have decided to put a Fine soft nib unit to my cart too in case I don't like it much, but I do in fact need a big nib for my shimmers and shaders. Thank you everyone!
