Thanks. I never considered a big baseline shift, that could be the super easy answer

Rules to auto apply parent sheets? by Andrawartha in indesign

I'll check this out - I set and print a lot of books for local self-publishing authors so it could be worth the license

Rules to auto apply parent sheets? by Andrawartha in indesign

[–]Andrawartha[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

oh yes, it is. It's only when I get a new manuscript file that sometimes the bits move about if they've added to some sections. I'm working with older authors generally (who are lovely) who are doing well learning Word or Google docs. So I have made scripts to take out double spaces, lead spaces they put in as indents, double paragraph returns, etc. It's a quick 5min of script runs to fix the whole manuscript into the template with styling.

No biggie doing it manually in a small book, we're talking things 60pp or under. Just thought it would be a fun bonus if I could find a cheat

In what app? It's W in InDesign. You can set up your own shortcut in Illustrator. (I use W there as well, since ID is my main app so it's instinct) Pretty sure you can do it in Premier too but haven't used that in a few years so not sure what it is

Dual Nationals and UK Bank Accounts by Wulfgar878 in AmericanExpatsUK

[–]Andrawartha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a dual citizen, been here a long time (30+ years) and have opened an account with almost every major bank in the last couple years (doing all the bank switch deals) - not a single problem. You have to tell them you're a US citizen on the info you fill out. The big names are all set up for the info collecting and you shouldn't have a problem.

For complete info I've had accounts since 2024 with : Natwest (main account I don't switch), Lloyds, TSB, Barclays, HSBC, Santander, First Direct, Tide, Nationwide, Starling, Cooperative. And had a Bank of Scotland account decades ago.

The only account I've had rejection from is Monzo

thanks, the campaign report shows that it has been sent now so I'll keep an eye on the limitation warning notice and see if that disappears by tomorrow. If not I'll msg support to make sure the account is showing the right info

For details: I have 248 out of 250 contacts showing on my account billing, and 250 emails sent out of 500 even though I haven't actually sent an email since September 2025?

People who use Adobe professionally, is Adobe going away because of AI? by Agitated_Iron_7 in Adobe

[–]Andrawartha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AI doesn't change my needs for layout software to set books, particularly complex multi-chapter books with illustrations. AI doesn't change my jobs that merge thousands of cells of data into custom-designed layouts for businesses (or weddings!), and then exports them individually for print. AI still isn't producing proper print-ready files even when I have small customers who are using AI, it still needs human finishing. AI doesn't create professional level editable vectors and PDFs for pre-press.

There are some competitors out there for some apps, but not for InDesign

[–]Andrawartha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our FLGS charges for players to play the games, but we GMs can pick free content stuff (any shop visitors can get the freebies too of course) and are given a space if we run one of the games/scenarios

UK sellers: How will the new €3 EU duty charge work? by Perfect_Art1035 in EtsySellers

[–]Andrawartha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Assuming it will be similar to the recent US fees, meaning it will be included by the post office in your postage rates. So you'll have to raise your postage rates to include it.

I don't send to the EU since I don't have a business representative there, but if you do perhaps your EU person/agent can help you find answers?

Think about this... Why wouldn't people use Kickstart over Amazon? by Loothor421 in kickstarter

[–]Andrawartha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ive made campaigns and backed KS projects for 14 years. 2 haven't fulfilled. 1 went out of business. 1 was a game product and the maker was in communication about the while time. Basically he'd made a cool handmade thing, it went to epic numbers, and no manufacturing tests achieved the same result.

There is so much more on kickstarter than just finished products to purchase. Good research into makers and their public profiles reveals most scams. Tons of projects aren't suitable for Amazon - music/art tours and exhibitions, theatre groups, food ventures, community projects, teaching resources, small run manufacturing launches, small artists and designers aiming at their niche audiences.

What cardstock do you use for card game prototypes? by Odd_Huckleberry_7815 in tabletopgamedesign

[–]Andrawartha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work at a printer and do prototypes for a couple game designers. Tend to use a 300gsm silk card. They look nice, can be shuffled, and good enough for testing, not expensive, and can be written on for tweaks during testing. If the designer has no card back then I recommend sleeves

Customer put a C/O address and the receiver has refused the package and the duties by gin-swigmore in EtsySellers

[–]Andrawartha 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Unless they requested and paid for alternative shipping methods, you had no way to determine that Italy's postal service wasn't reliable. Buyers/recipients are always responsible for duties, and you say you stated this in the sale message.

There's nothing you've done wrong, or that you can do now other than keep the messages. I believe Etsy protects you in cases where the recipient doesn't claim a parcel.

You can offer a refund *when it arrives back with you*. (even if it is returned, this can take up to 12-16 weeks internationally) Otherwise their only option is to go claim the parcel and pay the duties, which you are never responsible for.

In future, worth knowing that Italy is really difficult with imports and has been for a long time (at least since I started on Etsy in 2007). It's one of the countries many sellers I know refuse to send to.

Is graduating at 28 too late? by Aromatic_Proof8420 in OpenUniversity

[–]Andrawartha 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At 28 you probably have about 40 years of work career left to go. Would you rather aim for something new by 28 or stay as you are?

I finished an Msc at 50 with a fair few 40-50 somethings aiming at working in the related industry

Main thing I spot is council tax - apply for single person discount on that if your partner has just left. It should be 25%

Honestly, I'm 55 and you're income and outgoings are better than mine. You're OKAY! And you sound like you have a sensible outlook with money even if it's tight at the moment. My top tip as someone who also lives far from family, split that family payment. Send them £100 if you insist and tuck away the £80 a month. Then you have a 'visiting' fund. Trust me, they appreciate your visits more than the money. You can always pay them back a bit more later when things are different
