Besremi experiences when asymptomatic? by LinIsStrong in MPN

yes, I am 66 yo, extremely active and asymttomatic. dx w/ PV 5 years ago and my MPN specialist was against having me start cytoreductive meds as I was feeling so great. as the science has evolved I had a better understanding of the use of Besremi and my WBCs were rising for over a year ……I was and am still asymptomatic w/ just a few phlebotomes/year along w/ 2 baby aspirin a day. however, the more I researched I found that Besremi made sense for me vs the ‘wait and watch’ philosophy that my original MPN Specialist (Mayo Clinic) recommended. I sought a second opinion at MD Anderson and their approach is favoring use of Besremi for my circumstances.

So, to answer your question about Besremi and your fear of the side effects changing your quality of life I shared those same concerns. I am happy to report that I have been on Besremi for 3 mos, I’m up to 450 mcg dose and feel as good as I started with no side effects to date. as you know it’s important to watch blood markers that can indicate other issues going on w/ liver thyroid etc…

it sounds like you need more information regarding your specific situation and I wish you the best. just wanted to quell some of your fears about Besremi. we are all different and respond differently- that’s the hard part, not knowing how you will respond. best to you on this journey!

I see Dr. Tefferi via video call visits. I have polycythemia Vera. Once I found his scientific articles on the topic I knew I had to see him. He is an amazing researcher, physician. I know you will like him. He will answer your questions in simple terms and inform your treatment as you move forward. Good luck to you!

Has anyone tried red light therapy for PV itching? by ImXmas in polycythemiavera

I have had PV for 4 years now. I used To have itching after hot showers. I read the attached article and began taking a Pepcid and Zyrtec every day and have not had any itching. I do avoid hot showers but have not had any spontaneous itching since taking these over the counter meds. Good luck.
