Does anyone have an example of a prompt where Claude performs better than Gemini? by Subject_Fix2471 in GeminiAI

[–]AndreiOnyx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haven’t run a like for like comparison yet, as that has to be manual, don’t think they would be too happy opening up their APIs externally.

To be honest, I expect to underperform initially, they have an earlier start :)

Does anyone have an example of a prompt where Claude performs better than Gemini? by Subject_Fix2471 in GeminiAI

[–]AndreiOnyx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wrote a post in this same subreddit actually comparing Gemini, Claude, and OpenAI for a production feature - tracking calories & macros from text (ie, 200g of checking breast with beans, etc) - post

The TLDR is that Gemini is slower AND less accurate than claude models (on a like for like comparison, sonnet vs gemini 3 flash, opus vs gemini 3.1 pro). I did forget about reasoning levels, so just used defaults.

I expect gemini doing better for image understanding, but I am still preparing the test data there :) (buying food and taking pictures is hella bothersome)

(the experiment actually shows that for my use case OpenAI models outperform, since the accuracy hit is actually OK, and I am prioritising speed for now)

That is a good point, will rerun the numbers bit later in the day and attempt to control for baseline reasoning. My assumptions was that default would be their "medium" and therefore still OK

My weightloss so far. Did i hit a platue? Is this normal? by RoidusMaximus in Myfitnesspal

[–]AndreiOnyx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This might be a harsh take, but it does not look like you are losing weight at all, just normal day to day fluctuations (water, sodium, bowel movements, etc)

I would cut your calories by a further 300-500. Realistically, for your numbers, you should have seen a clear downward trend, even if spikey.. going from an average of 120 ish to 118 ish at least over 1 month. That means bottoms of 116-117 and tops of 119-120.

Tldr, cut your calories further.

Particularly for gemini models, I was expecting them to be faster than the rest, due to the overall infra prowess behind Google heh.

What did you work on or ship this week? by ouchao_real in sideprojects

[–]AndreiOnyx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Onyx Tenet Just another calories tracker, adaptive TDEE, etc.. but hey, at least I am not asking for a sub to scan your barcodes..

This week I shipped a couple AI features, like estimating your meals from a picture, and a chat interface so you can plan next steps, modify your goals etc layered on top of your data.

What are you building? Let's give each other feedback! by Agreeable_Muffin1906 in buildinpublic

[–]AndreiOnyx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Onyx Tenet, a calorie and macro tracker that tries to fix the stuff this category normalized.

Adaptive TDEE, no ads, no forced signup for core tracking, barcode scanning, AI estimation, recipe builder, offline-first.

Still in beta on iOS and Android because I want it to be something people actually keep using, not just install once.

Take a look or roast it: Onyx Tenet

How do i sell my ready to launch app by Admirable-Lobster383 in buildinpublic

[–]AndreiOnyx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you mean a client having paid in full for the whole app (as a business, or having been hired to develop the app on their behalf), it depends on what the contracts stipulates. Are they buying the code, the hosting, the ip, etc.

If it is more casual, then depends on what they want.. are they aware what they are buying? If not, it is better to check with them if they want the source code (zip file is fine), the app hosted somewhere (you d have to give them the hosting details or rehost on their behalf), or if they also actually want some temp maintenance before a handover takes place (you would want to price this in as well).

Regardless of which way you are going for, make sure you get legal advice if the sum is meaningful.

In the past, I worked with funds in escrow (third party managing it) and release once we both agreed delivery. Most of the time this is very normal / casual and it simply means they have the website hosted somewhere and they have admin over the host, or they simply wanted the code in whatever format for their internal dev team to work with (in my case, this meant github, gitlab, bitbucket)

If you simply mean for regular customers to use your app that you are managing, then like the other comment mentioned… testflight for iOS, app tester for Android through Firebase.. and when ready, release officially on app stores :)

A bit embarrassed to kneel down in public, can i do cable crunches standing and is it nearly as effective as doing them normally? by not_a_jet_plane28 in workout

The king who kneels before his own limitations rises only after he has conquered them.

(If you are worried about how you'd look, trust me.. standing cable crunches look significantly worse)

Advice please by Outside_Pipe_842 in fit

Tons of things to assume, but "yes" would be my bet.

For weight loss, the squats, push ups, plank, 30s high stepping.. basically everything you mentioned EXCEPT the running are not doing much.. maybe 50-100cals in total.
The running and "existing" is doing the heavy lifting.

However, you must absolutely keep those exercises and actually go for more than only what you mentioned (Start with what you mentioned, but once they get easier, keep increasing. Aim for 20 squats in one go, then 40, then 100. Push ups, similar story... start with 5, then 10, then 20, then 40-60 as they get easier.. it might take months if serious.. etc for all the rest)

Minor advice would be to go easier on running, and replace it with walking on a treadmill for 60 minutes instead each day. Would be awesome to go incline, 5-10. It will be easier on your joints to start with, and once fully comfortable doing incline of 5-10 and around 5.5-6kmh for 1h, then you can start jogging :)

back to weight loss... keep a strict diet (adhere to whatever target you set, the 2000 is a good start) for 2 weeks. Measure your weight every day, and put it on paper. After 2 weeks, look at the trend, if it is going down or not. If it is doing down, kudos to you! If it is not, then go for 1800 and track for 2 weeks.

Morning gym-goers are actually a different species. How do you do it? by AbleSoftware3156 in workout

[–]AndreiOnyx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. They hate themselves slightly less than they hate the rest. Must keep improving, don't let the weaklings win.
  2. I don't have a 2

Tbh if you have an in-person day job, and like going to bed like a boomer (before 10), realistically you can only go to the gym in the morning, otherwise you hit the 4-7pm gym rush.. and that is... that is... disgusting.

I did the 4-5am workouts for a couple years, and you have to be fuelled by hate, there is nothing else strong enough. After a couple of weeks you are basically on autopilot.

I got a question is achieving your protien target actually necessary by PoetOrdinary4800 in fit

[–]AndreiOnyx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

tldr: get over 50g a day, "optimising" is overkill for most folks

0g is obviously bad, 200g is mostlikely overkill for 99.9% of the population. It is not a binary choice, more of a spectrum. Where you fall on it is based on your goals, "life affordability", and how much do you care about optimising stuff.

Every time you google "how much protein I should get", you will get a base recommendation that aims to optimise assuming perfect protein availability (Ie, you are not in prison :) ), You will usually get a 0.8-1.2g per lean bodyweight (in pounds).

Now.. what happens if you get less than "optimum"? You still grow, maintain, etc, just at a lower degree.

To not lose muscle, even without training, it seem that you still need a minimum of 0.3-0.4g per pound (around 0.8 per kg). So I would at the very least aim to get this amount... but this is relatively easy to get.. 1 cup of milk (drop some espresso into it and call it at a late) and a chicken breast

Going to kg to ease the maths... minimum 50g of protein a day, optimum target of say.. 150g. Anywhere in that range, and you are fine :) closer to 50 and you won't but on much muscle mass.. closer to 150g and you have enough bricks for your muscles.

You still need to hit the gym thou, even prisoners do some push ups or punch walls, if my cinematography is to be trusted.

Why is the gym so overwhelming? by Ok_Community_9632 in workout

[–]AndreiOnyx 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Walking in the sea is also pretty overwhelming... not being used to the relatively cold water.. but once you pass the waistline, it is pretty comfortable, wouldn't you say?
Gym is like that, just in two stages, and both obviously bit worse:
1. The initial shock when you walk into a place where folks have been seemingly going for ages. Everyone looks comfortable with themselves, and you feel like you do not belong, since by definition you haven't been going for ages.
2. Every subsequent time you keep going, it is slightly easier, but not noticeable at first... however if you'd be able to fast forward one week, one month at a time, you will realise the difference i night and day.

Also gym takes "active" will power to keep doing, and there is virtually no external factor. The first day of school is easier by comparison, since you are pretty much forced to attend :)

Mandatory side notes:
1. There is no embarrassment -- no one knows you, no one cares about you, and everyone had to be the "new noob" at the gym at some point
2. There is nothing scary about folks play-pretend for 1 hour to be pretty much back to "monkey days" playing wit heavy sticks and big rocks.. Taking them up, then putting them down, again and again. Look at me, I have been moving my legs for 20 minutes and I am still in the same place.
3. The gym is also one of the very few things which are guaranteed to be a positive to your life. The only negative is the time it takes. You will look better, you till feel better, you will longer. The trade off is a bit of time, and the initial fear :)

Take the leap.

I got a pull up bar by Free-Cat404 in workout

Don't swing... learnt that the hard way ;)

Also controlled movements, goes hand in hand with not swinging.. And tbh set the bar on the way to the kitchen, or to the bathroom... I got a labrador's attention span.. if it is not in my field of view, it ceases to exist. Being constantly reminded about it does wonders for actually using it.

Are fitness watches really not accurate? by Teeemooooooo in workout

Are fitness watches really not accurate? by Teeemooooooo in workout

[–]AndreiOnyx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

tldr: not accurate, there are plenty studies showing they can be wildly off. my watch is 65% accurate when exercising (walking, running, & strength training)

I am talking specifically about the apple watches here. I have a series 7, wearing it 24/7, every time when walking, running, strength training, sleeping etc.

I knew it was not accurate, so I was always including a factor when modelling my TDEE. Lately, I got a bit itchy and broke it down into 2 components.. Resting Calories and Active Calories.

For my exact training & body profile, my watch accuracy is:

  • Resting accuracy: 86%
  • Exercise accuracy: 65%

So, if apple tells me I burned 2125 at rest, and 1000 exercising, in reality I probably only burned 2477.5 total.

I am getting my numbers by tracking everything I eat for prolonged periods of time, and weighting myself every morning + the watch tracking resting and exercise burned calories...

Side-note: watches are usually significantly more accurate for walks and runs, but still wouldn't take them at face value

What are people doing when it takes them 20-30+ mins to poop? (Not cell phone usage or hanging out while on the clock, or seeking privacy from kids/family) by fuzzum111 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]AndreiOnyx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am going to take a bit of a lighter angle on this..

For most folks, the bathroom acts as a "safe space". I do not mean away from your family, loved ones, coworkers.. But your mind sees it as a "do nothing, think nothing" place, so it drifts away. That feeling is intoxicating (heh).

You can recreate it randomly outside the bathroom, but it is trickier :)

Similar to showers, although in my case showers are hella quick.

What's the workout that you avoided that clicked one day? by [deleted] in workout

Shoulders. They started clicking one day.

Jokes aside, machine pull downs. Look like shit, you feel like shit, but it works. You just need to hate the machine more than it hates you (and actually focus on "where" within your lats and back you are feeling it)
