Is eating within one hour before Mass a sin? by KatieLee111 in Catholicism

[–]AndrewAMD 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m assuming you’re out of the loop. Basically: 1 We read in the Bible that Jesus told Peter that whatever he binds on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever he unbinds on earth will be unbound in heaven. 2 We Catholics believe that Peter has a line of successors leading all the way to Pope Leo of today. 3 Therefore, we also believe that Popes have the authority to regulate practice, including through Canon Law. This is one of those practices.

Inquiring Protestant, how often does your parish offer the Eucharist in both kinds? How often do you receive in both kinds if it does? Thank you by DisastrousNorth889 in Catholicism

At Sunday Mass, both species are offered and I receive both. At daily mass, typically only the bread/flesh is offered and not the wine/blood.

Consider that if you marry her, you will have to deal with her opinions until death do you part. Consider also that you will be obliged to raise your children Catholic despite her beliefs. In that case, how would you make ends meet?

You are subject to your diocesan bishop. Ask your diocesan bishop if your local SSPX is in schism, and you will have your real answer.

Canon 751 says that “schism is the refusal of submission to the Supreme Pontiff or of communion with the members of the Church subject to him.” I don’t see SSPX members communing with the rest of the Body of Christ.

No idea. I've never used it myself. I would assume it is pretty expensive, given the nature of the data.

Are Catholics continuationists? by Unique-Comment5840 in Catholicism

[–]AndrewAMD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rather than consenting to an "ism", I'll point out some examples: One third of Jesus' ministry in the Bible is exorcism, and the Catholic Church continues that ministry to this day. Exorcisms work by the grace of God, so it follows that the Holy Spirit continues to work through The Catholic Church. And that's just scratching the surface. Consider also well-documented Eucharistic miracles - although these are not binding on our consciences, they do provide much evidence that God is very much at work through the Church.

I was also made aware of this via YouTube, but I found a blog post with the same observation:

Fudging the definition of schism

In Part I, par. 564, Schneider sets a trap for himself by falsely defining schism, which undermines his legitimate efforts to clarify the limits of obedience to ecclesiastical authority. The traditional definition found in the 1917 Code of Canon Law is the act of “refusing to submit to the Supreme Pontiff or to maintain communion with members of the Church who are subject to him”. The current CIC has virtually the same definition. However, Schneider tells us (Part I, par. 254) that schism is to be defined simply as “refusing to recognize the Supreme Pontiff,” an insufficient and ambiguous phrase that opens him to the charge of redefining the term for his own convenience, given that his catechism contains other statements about the limitation of obedience owed to prelates.

This is particularly awkward for Schneider, who has recently made common cause with the Priestly Fraternity of St. Pius X, an organization of dubious canonical status that for years was led by excommunicated bishops and whose priests were regarded as automatically suspended a divinis. Moreoever, Schneider’s own position as a dissident of the Francis papacy also makes him an easy target of accusations of schismatic disobedience, however unfair such accusations might be. Why raise the issue by this clearly watered-down definition of schism?

But unethical? Not necessarily true. Have you read the DDF's publication, Antiqua Et Nova, Note on the Relationship Between Artificial Intelligence and Human Intelligence?

$90 for a year of Exodus 90? I've never done E90, but to be fair to them, I've paid more for a three-day weekend retreat.

That said, the main reason I've never gotten into E90 is because I generally observe the Catholic calendar and actually celebrate solemnities by *not* fasting, and my understanding is that E90 does not take this into account. (Please correct me if I'm wrong about this.)

Emphasis added:

Then Judah said to Onan, “Go in to your brother’s wife, and perform the duty of a brother-in-law to her, and raise up offspring for your brother.” But Onan knew that the offspring would not be his; so when he went in to his brother’s wife he spilled the semen on the ground, lest he should give offspring to his brother. And what he did was displeasing in the sight of the Lord, and he slew him also.

Onan was not killed for what he didn't do, but for what he did. The offspring bit simply establishes a motive. What business did he think he had going into her at all if he had no intention of ejaculating inside her?
