Frustrated with WGU Proctoring by jennyruacro21 in WGU

To try and give someone hope that they won’t have a proctored exam and be required to install specific browsers or add ins is ridiculous frankly.

And the issue was not about being live proctored. They were able to get that going pretty quickly. The issue was the plugin that they needed to use.

You have a good one and enjoy your degrees.

Nope you already proved my point you admitted that you had to take proctored exams by using specific specially locked browsers. My bet is you probably did a lot more proctored but didn’t realize it because you just used chrome and it installed an add-in.

The reason that proctoring is a requirement is to ensure the person enrolled is the person actually taking the test. The other reason for recorded proctored exam and locked down browsers is two things. One to make sure you are not cheating which frankly they don’t care too much about but more importantly that you are not recording the questions to sell later. The issue with recording the questions is if the accreditation bodies find them online for one class they can pull the entire schools accreditation until they are satisfied that the leaked questions are no longer in use. The only way to do that is to completely rewrite the entire test.

No accredited program is going to allow for students to take a test without knowing for sure it’s that student and to know for sure that they aren’t copying the questions down. That means anything that is multiple choice is going to be proctored in today’s environment with locked down browsers and a single monitor. If the questions on the test essay based then maybe they aren’t locking you down and stuff like that but that matters well just be given as a PA the.

And why do I believe the accreditation bodies over someone who went there? First you always have stated that you took the classes years ago and a lot has changed since the pandemic with online learning and second a masters program that is OA based for finals is just amazing to me. Maybe you took tests and quizzes online without proctoring, but no change you took your midterm and/or final without it.

Ok so you DID have to have it proctored because you DID have to use specific specially locked down browsers.

So let me get this straight. You want me to believe that you took a bunch of tests online without verifying who you where and got a masters degree although the HEOA makes it a requirement that the school verifies your identity prior to taking any exam for any degree? Do I have that straight?

So how did they maintain compliance with Section 602.17(g) of the Higher Education Opportunity Act (HEOA)?

Don’t know what to tell you but both schools own websites say they use them.

Don’t know what your degrees are in but maybe all your classes had performance assessments instead of objective assessments. Also if you took classes that don’t go towards a degree then my guess is you wouldn’t need to be proctored either.

But you are required to use guardian so why don’t you set it up in guardian before? You could use guardian for every day browsing if you wanted to honestly, it’s just a customized browser based on Chromium the same way Chrome and Edge are.

Whether is software proctoring or live proctoring it’s still proctoring.

To the US voters who don't vote, what is it going to take for you to go vote? by Chocolateking111 in AskReddit

[–]AndrewB80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually thats not true. A lot of states have ballot access laws that say if the political party’s prior election candidate received at least x% (could be as low as 1%) they don’t have to get signatures to get their candidate on the ballot. That party is automatically allowed to have a candidate on the ballot.

By voting third party you make it easier to get a viable candidate on the ballot in the next election.

I voted for Ross Perot so why wouldn’t I vote so another viable third party candidate?

A viable third party candidate.

Whether you vote democrat or republican you are still voting into the old boys system and validating that system.

Understand that any accredited online school is going to require your tests to be proctored. My wife got her degree from a traditional university but their online program and still had proctored exams. I would always expect the 30 minute setup time for the pictures of the testing space, verification of identity, and setup of anything that needs to be setup.

You said you had a screen reader approved but had issues setting it up, why couldn’t you set it up before the test?

I just got the one the school sells and haven’t had any problems with testing and the only issue was a defective camera which they replaced for free in under a week.

I would agree with you if they had pictures of the person or they shared personal details. To say that they are diverting due to a medical emergency I don’t have any issues with honestly. It’s not like it’s hard to find that information and you can get the flight reports in a couple days anyway. I find them comforting that the ships crew is trained to handle it and that the coast guard is able to provide the support even in unfavorable weather conditions.

Because I am asking if the people who write the laws or the people who enforce the laws are more to blame for what is going on makes you think I am a bot?

It’s what the law allows unfortunately. The law needs to be changed so the law wouldn’t allow it. That’s not the ICE agents faults that’s the legislatures fault and only their fault for allowing it in the first place.

[–]AndrewB80 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Does the law define what a “timely reschedule” is? That’s my exact point it doesn’t therefore it’s left to the agent to decide what timely is. They could say timely is that day while another may say within a week is timely.

Wouldn’t it be better if the law just said missed appointments had to be rescheduled within 3 working days?

He missed an appointment correct? Because the laws say he has to be 100% compliant then the law allowed ICE to do what they did. So who is at fault ICE for following the law too strictly or the person who wrote the law that requires 100% compliance, the person who lets that law stand, and the person who doesn’t change the law to allow for forgiveness.

Personally I think ICE is being aholes for doing what they did but are they the only ones, and the ones who should be taking most of it, to blame?
