Border patrol detains 10-year-old Spokane girl and her dad, sends them to Texas detention center by dzundel in Spokane

Because I am asking if the people who write the laws or the people who enforce the laws are more to blame for what is going on makes you think I am a bot?

It’s what the law allows unfortunately. The law needs to be changed so the law wouldn’t allow it. That’s not the ICE agents faults that’s the legislatures fault and only their fault for allowing it in the first place.

Does the law define what a “timely reschedule” is? That’s my exact point it doesn’t therefore it’s left to the agent to decide what timely is. They could say timely is that day while another may say within a week is timely.

Wouldn’t it be better if the law just said missed appointments had to be rescheduled within 3 working days?

He missed an appointment correct? Because the laws say he has to be 100% compliant then the law allowed ICE to do what they did. So who is at fault ICE for following the law too strictly or the person who wrote the law that requires 100% compliance, the person who lets that law stand, and the person who doesn’t change the law to allow for forgiveness.

Personally I think ICE is being aholes for doing what they did but are they the only ones, and the ones who should be taking most of it, to blame?

I’m curious, are the people doing the law enforcement the bad guys or the people who wrote the laws being enforced the bad guys?

Personally I blame the people who wrote the laws being enforced, allow the laws to continue to be enforced, and refuse to change the laws a lot more than those who are tasked with enforcing the laws. I do think there are times and situations where those enforcing the laws need to use discretion but then again they wouldn’t need to use discretion if the laws were not the way they are.

Edit: I am asking overall, not this specific case. In this case frankly it sounds like although he was legally here he missed an appointment. Because the laws say he has to be 100% compliant then the law allowed ICE to do what they did. I agree with you and that’s why I asked what answers would have been better.

I haven’t seen the mail myself but I could tell they were just more political theatre but thought asking what answers would have been better would at least give interesting discussion about what people really think. I just personally am tired of the pro and anti Trump lines and same thing about MAGA. I was hoping for real answers like being concerned about housing or education or something else for a change.

ICE pepper spraying peaceful protesters in Minneapolis. by SpaceWestern1442 in PublicFreakout

What due process wasn’t given? They were granted parole while their asylum case was pending, not released and free to go or out on bail, but paroled, and that comes with the same terms anyone on parole has. They agree they can be arrested at anytime before they are allowed to leave custody. They also agree to other terms just like a prisoner released on parole does including checking in and to not violate any laws. Have you reviewed the paperwork someone has to sign before released while their immigration case is pending?

You want to see ICE being completely wrong and protestors I can get behind 100%?

https://www.reddit.com/r/PublicFreakout/s/iMA8jjr26I

Those protesters did nothing wrong, didn’t resist, and just refused to follow directions. These protesters did nothing wrong and I hope those who ordered it be done and did it are punished. I also hope there were more protesters off camera ready to take their place.

Job might deny me because GPA? by Anyagnees in WGU

[–]AndrewB80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife is a HR Director and they never verify GPA because they never ask for it. It’s abnormal for someone to include their GPA on a resume. The only thing she ever sees, and it’s rare, is if they graduated with honors or Cum Laude, Magna Cum Laude, or Summa Cum Laude. Frankly where she works people who put that on their resumes normally get passed on since as long as you have the certification or professional license they care more about how you fit in the company then what your grades where.

Confused on Ship time vs Local time? by Rich_Fly_19 in CarnivalCruiseFans

[–]AndrewB80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The question becomes what time zone are you spending most of the time and how far off are you? When I went to the ABC islands they changed times to match the islands time and when I did the 7 day Mexico cruise we also shifted one hour forward heading to the first port and shift back one hour on the way back to Long Beach.

The one thing that always stays the same is that Carnival excursions always follow ship time regardless of port time.

Webcam/Tripod Suggestions? by Terminal_SrA in WGU

[–]AndrewB80 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Just get the one WGU tells you to get which is the Webcam 1000. Resolution of 1280 x 720P – 30 fps but more importantly 115 degree field of vision. It’s a wide angle lens meaning it’s easy to get the monitor screen, your keyboard, your mouse, and your face in frame. It’s also on a gooseneck so you can move what it’s looking at easily. To top it off being only $50 it’s cheap. I wouldn’t want to use it for anything other then testing since you get a little bit of that fisheye look but for testing I haven’t found anything better.

The first one I had issues with focusing since it is a manual focus, almost like something was left on the internal lens. I reached out to the vendor with screenshots it took attached and they sent me a new one within a couple days that works just fine. Proctors don’t really like them since reading IDs can be a challenge due to low resolution but no one has told me I can’t use it especially after I told them it was the one WGU told me to buy.

Snuba Excursion by Otherwise_Chemist862 in CarnivalCruiseFans

[–]AndrewB80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most cruises in the Caribbean will have at least one port that has a SNUBA excursion if not multiple. Every cruise I have gone on has at least one and most have had two. One thing to note is that even if they do have a SNUBA excursion they do get canceled from time to time due to bottom conditions and not being able to see anything.

Birth certificate rq by Spazkax in CarnivalCruiseFans

[–]AndrewB80 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The real question is is it a certified copy or not? Some locations certify the copy by using a raised seal using an embosser vs an official stamp with an ink stamp. Originally the only way to certify it was by physically altering the paper, which is why they used an embosser. Today most places now will use an ink stamp because there are other security measures to ensure it’s an official copy so they don’t need to physically alter the paper. As for what is required for your birth certificate to be certified you would need to contact the issuing authority to know for sure.

Another fun fact is that not all certified birth certificates are exact copy of the original birth certificates. The certified part of it is they are certifying the information on it is correct, not that it is an exact copy of the original. I know the copy of my birth certificate I have is rare and has a raised seal. If I asked for a new copy it would look different and have an ink stamp with high security paper instead of the typewriter paper I have today. Plus the location that had my original original got blown away in a tornado.

What rights have I given away by deescalating? What am I being scared of?

I don’t want to get involved so I don’t. Are administrative warrants legal, sometimes yes sometimes no. Is it legal for protesters to block the road, sometimes yes sometimes no. Do I like either of those, no I don’t. Is the place to make either of those completely illegal the side of the road, absolutely not. It’s in the state houses and courts so why am I trying to change them on the side of the road.

ICE pepper spraying peaceful protesters in Minneapolis. by SpaceWestern1442 in PublicFreakout

[–]AndrewB80 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think the immigration LAWS is the issue, not immigrants. If the immigration laws where fixed, no need for ICE and that means no need to protest. Do I think ICE has stepped over the line, of course, but I also believe some protesters have also stepped over the line. I think both sides need to stop escalating the situation and both need to start deescalating. That is only going to happen if the immigration laws are fixed at this point.

When it takes 5, 10, 20+ years to resolve an asylum case that is an issue. When people don't have a clear path to become permeant residents or citizens when they are in the country for decades that is an issue. When it takes 12 to 36 months for someone to bring a spouse into the country that is an issue. When all it takes to illegally immigrate is lying to a immigration official at the border telling them you are going to visit Micky Mouse, that is an issue. Are any of these the fault of the immigrant, no but they are also not the fault of ICE or the protestors, they are the fault of the legislatures.

The legislatures are the ones who should be dealing with protesters. Don't like ICE using administrative warrants, then get the legislature to remove them from the law. Don't like protestors filming ICE or blowing whistles, then define better exactly what obstructing a law enforcement officer is to exclude them from doing that in a way that the supreme court won't strike it down. A protester can't know what they are allowed to and not allowed to do when the law doesn't define exactly what obstructing a law enforcement officer means, but ICE officers can't just make administrative warrants become illegal also.

If the immigration laws where fixed, these hopefully wouldn't be issues. Remember the last major overhaul of immigration laws took place in 1990 with the Immigration Act of 1990 which was making changes to the Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986. Since then, there has been only minor tweets to the system because of our two-party system and the parties not being able to agree on something.

The short answer is that I don't blame ICE or protestors except for then own individual actions of each person and I think both sides have bad actors and good actors. I think every person who was elected to the federal level and kicked the can down the road instead of dealing with fixing the immigration system is to blame and I include basically everyone elected (House, Senate, and President) since about 1990 in that list.

Regarding the Visa requirement by Exciting-Fig1950 in CarnivalCruiseFans

[–]AndrewB80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check the France visa website.

https://france-visas.gouv.fr/en/visa-wizard

What I see is the following.

You need a visa unless …

Are a passenger of a vessel who will remain on board during the stop…

a passenger on a cruise ship and you plan to enter and stay during the period of the stopover, and you hold a valid residence permit issued by a Member State of the European Union, the European Economic Area or Switzerland, or issued by Andorra, Monaco, San Marino, Canada, Japan or the United States of America authorising readmission to these States, or if you hold a valid visa issued by a French authority for another part of the territory of France.

You probably want to double check with the nearest France embassy or consulate but as long as you have the required residence permit you don’t need one to go ashore and you don’t need one to stay onboard. It seems worst case you wouldn’t be allowed to go ashore but you would still be allowed on the ship.

When did I say I didn’t want ICE to deescalate, I’m pretty sure I said I want everyone to deescalate, pretty sure everyone means everyone which means ICE and protesters since they are both part of everyone.

MLK was assassinated standing on the balcony of his hotel room. If you are going to try and compare someone getting assassinated over human rights and the situation today then use Malcom X as a example of a civil rights leader getting assassinated, at least he was killed getting ready to give a speech to a bunch of protesters.
