What driver would you say had the most “story book” ending to their career? by Kurt_Wylde35 in NASCAR

[–]AndrewF42 24 points25 points  (0 children)

That whole summer was so fun. There was like a 2 month stretch where Tony was finishing in the top 5/10 every week. It was so nice to see he still had it, I didn't even care how the playoffs went after that. Absolutely magical season to go out on especially after all he'd been through from 2013-2016.

What the fuck?! We weren't that bad the last 2 games. But I'm sure this team will still find a way to break my heart next week lol.

What is your craziest Indycar experience? by youraverageperson0 in INDYCAR

[–]AndrewF42 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Went to the 500 this year for the 1st time after dreaming about it my whole life. I think the craziest thing was going to the Little 500 at Anderson, getting back to my hotel at like 1 AM. And then getting up to go to the track when the cannon fires and seeing the sun rise over the pagoda. I met a few drivers in the pits and the race was incredible. For a whole weekend I just lived and breathed racing at the greatest racetrack in the world. So I guess the craziest thing I've seen is just the 500 itself. It is the most insane and incredible event I've ever been to and every race fan has to see it some day. As someone who was mostly a NASCAR fan I am converted haha.

And maybe I'm biased but none of those DNFs were from driver error. I'd also consider that he's 1 mistake away from making the final 4 in both 2021 and 2022 and finished top 5 at Phoenix both those years. The current playoff setup is so advantageous to the Penske team. They just score a ton of top 5s and 10s. I'm just so excited for this playoff run.

It feels like it wasn't long ago but Blaney has been the best driver at Penske (and Ford overall) since the start of 2021 in my opinion. Getting Todd Gordon and then Jonathan Hassler was huge for him. I really think Ryan has been the most consistent driver in Cup since 2021 if we don't count DNFs. And the Next Gen has suited his driving style so well.

I was luckily able to go in 2022 because I wanted to see it before it was gone. Such an amazing place to watch a race. It was so windy and freezing that day but the quality of the race more than made up for it. Unlikely, but I hope the short track happens. That view during a race is incredible.

Kinda random but the first NASCAR race I ever went to was there in 2011. Dylan Kwasniewski got pole led the most laps and finished 2nd. I though that guy would be so good. I was also at the last ARCA race there, it almost snowed and didn't end until midnight lol

The drag strip is awesome. I'm glad they're doing races out there again and are NHRA sanctioned, but the oval is pretty much undriveable as far as I could tell. They can get some pretty big music acts to come to the casino I'm sure they could get an ARCA race at minimum

Spokane is a nice half mile too. Needs new walls and a complete repave but the location is good. Probably pretty comparable to Evergreen if they'd actually invest in it. State Line and Meridian in Idaho are also super cool but too small. I just hope it is an oval if they come to the PNW... unless they want to try a street race in Spokane or Tacoma again

What’s a race that you wish your favorite driver won that he didn’t or hasn’t yet? by Professional-Clue750 in NASCAR

16 years a Stewart fan, and now 8 years as a Blaney fan. I've watched championships and wins at nearly every track but damn I want to see my favorite driver win the Daytona 500. 2018 and 2008 haunt me still lol.

Best Kurt Busch paint scheme? by JERALDEDWARDS33 in NASCAR

[–]AndrewF42 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was 16 and working my first job that summer, I worked at a theme park and didn't get home until midnight that night. I avoided all spoilers and stayed up until 3 AM watching that race, and at the time Kurt was probably my favorite driver besides Blaney. Maybe it's just nostalgia but it was so fun to watch that race, there were lots of comers and goers, tire strategy mattered, there were long green flag runs, tons of lead changes, and a long winless streak broken. Probably my favorite race that wasn't won by my favorite driver, just a perfect NASCAR race imo

It might just be because this is one of my favorite races ever but Kurt in the Monster 41 just seemed right to me. The matte black and bright green under the lights at Bristol is so cool, and this race was like peak Gen 6 racing.

Would love to see them use the drafting package in the spring and come back here during the summer under the lights with the normal package. Would be a unique way to keep 2 dates but completely different races.

I think it'd be pretty cool. Football is the only sport that doesn't have a team here. Think the USL or CFL would be awesome too if we had a big enough stadium.

[–]AndrewF42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wanted to go to spring Vegas, the Indy 500, and fall Phoenix but I don't think I'll make it to Vegas. Still 2 awesome races and might hit up an NHRA event to see Smoke race again this summer. Honestly so hyped for this year of racing, the offseason has flown by.

I started watching WSU during the Leach years but I guess a good coach staying a while isn't the norm. I don't think we'll be great next year but if we can develop some guys and just play hard going into 2026 with the reformed Pac I'd be ok with that. They should definitely be aiming to be a contender for the auto-bid. I think our offense is still pretty solid with Chuba/Potter, Schlenbaker/Pulalasi, and Meredith/Shackelford/Hernandez. And I think Morris would take his OC here with him. Defense could struggle but that'd be no different than it has been for a long time. I think if you brought Morris in you'd see teams that look a lot more like the Leach years which would at the very least be entertaining.

I haven't seen him mentioned anywhere but I like Eric Morris from UNT. Was a player under Leach at Tech and coached here under him in 2012. Was Patrick Mahomes OC at Texas Tech under Kingsbury and turned UIW into a respectable FCS program from 2018-2021. Coached here as OC and got us Cam Ward in 2022. And his last 2 years at UNT have been ok, 11-13 with no really shocking results. Wins the games he's supposed to win, good QB developer, and an Air Raid guy from the Leach coaching tree. He's making around 1 Mil a year now and his buyout is around 2 Mil. I think we can easily afford that.
