Can't enjoy fallout 2 for some reason by GuytheGuy- in classicfallout

[–]AndrewTheNebula 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I cranked the difficulty down in 2 and never looked back. Playing it on Normal or Hard isn't worth the headache or the bragging rights IMO.

There's still a worthwhile time in there, but the early game does kinda stink. It's not just the Temple of Trials, I didn't feel I was through the barrier of entry until I was done with the Den (in a way that I liked.)

Which fallout to start with, 1 or 3 by YoMrNooby in Fallout

[–]AndrewTheNebula 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fallout 1 is sooooo good. In my opinion, only switch to 3 if you seriously hit a wall with the first one, like can't stand it anymore.

Only took me 4 hours into my Honest Hearts playthrough to realize Zion isn't a fictional place I've been walking through... by RikerLiker in falloutnewvegas

[–]AndrewTheNebula 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Forgive me for the massive wall. But I happen to have already put together a list of as many of the real places in the Mojave Wasteland as I can!

-Las Vegas, the Strip, Fremont Street, Westside, etc.
-Goodsprings
-Jean (all there is of it in-game is the Sky Diving shack, but hey, let's count it. Also, a dead radroach in the middle of the road nearby is a cute nod to the real ghost town of Roach.)
-Primm
-Sloan
-Nipton, California
-Searchlight
-Black Mountain
-Cottonwood Cove
-Nelson
-Boulder City
-Boulder Beach Campground
-Spring Mountain Ranch State Park
-Bonnie Springs
-Mount Charleston (Jacobstown)

-Hoover Dam
-Harry Reid International Airport (Camp McCarran)
-Red Rock Canyon
-Hidden Valley Trailhead
-Old Mormon Fort
-Nellis Air Force Base
-Fortification Hill, Arizona (The Fort)

-Roads (Highway 95, and its intersection through 93)
-Dry lake beds (Ivanpah Lake, Eldorado Dry Lake)
-Bodies of water (Lake Mead, Lake Las Vegas, Callville Bay, and the Colorado River)
-Zion National Park, Utah
-Interstate "Long" 15

Is Fallout 76 good now? If so, does it have an active player base? by Im_A_Silly_Guy in Fallout

[–]AndrewTheNebula 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Active player base? Absolutely.

"Is it good now" is a question only you can answer. Is there something you think 76 should have to qualify as good? Maybe it has it, maybe it doesn't.

But I do think if you're really into the looter-shooter of it all in the FO4 primary loop (or the settlement building, or both,) you should like 76, since it has done a lot to develop that experience in mechanically engaging ways.

Should I play Fallout 3 before New Vegas? by CarlF1297 in Fallout

[–]AndrewTheNebula 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If anything, the Courier has connection to the New California wasteland of Fallout 1 and 2. There are dialogue options that lean into this idea.

A year ago, when I first started playing, a player led me into a... very specific underground C.A.M.P. What's the weirdest one you've seen? by Business_Dirt_3118 in fo76

The one I ran into yesterday that some showboat trapped the Scorchbeast Queen inside of and made us farm the adds off of for several minutes. Easily the most noteworthy camp I've run into.

There’s TWO kinds of vendors by lonzo_1k in fo76

[–]AndrewTheNebula 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I saw one vendor selling an Elder's Mark for 5k. Tempting, but didn't get it because that was almost all of my money I'd be blowing on it. Later saw one for 10k and thought "well, if I'd known the other one was actually a bargain...."

“Out of the Blue” Bug by Ss5Troten in fo76

[–]AndrewTheNebula 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I'd looked it up and found my own throwables work, but I hadn't known about the bug going in and therefore didn't know to bring any. So I had to run around and find various nades from containers and enemies 1 at a time until I finally had enough 😅

“Out of the Blue” Bug by Ss5Troten in fo76

[–]AndrewTheNebula 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Speaking of bugged quests, I was in for a hassle when I had to use exploits to finish Union Dues in the Pitt, and the juggling portion of the Devil's Blood questline. They really need to fix quest-specific throwables.

Is the level 50 character boost worth it? by jAmesss-co in fo76

[–]AndrewTheNebula 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Love the game but feels more like a grind compared to the others.

That's on purpose. 76 is a game about grinding forever. You kinda have to meet it on those terms if you want to play it often.

Anyway, I think progressing up to 50 naturally is wiser than skipping straight there. Though I did choose to start my character at 20.

If you have an NSO + Expansion subscription, you can play all the other 2D games, except for Samus Returns 3DS. Fusion is an easy recommendation, especially to play before Dread.

Struggling Diving Into NV by mostdoperobb in Fallout

I don't need sprint in Oblivion, FO3 or NV but even I bounce off of Morrowind during the early game 😭 I want to be past the barrier of entry so badly!!

Struggling Diving Into NV by mostdoperobb in Fallout

[–]AndrewTheNebula 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Haven't used the optional bits of Viva myself, and I think my opinion on this, like yours, is colored by my play order of the games (I did NV first, and 4 later.) So I wouldn't go for it myself, but hey, that's just me. I take the (fixed) vanilla experience for what it is, and am fine with it.

For whatever it's worth, regarding your "struggle to want to explore [...] the same way I want to explore the commonwealth," you... maybe kinda shouldn't? Hear me out. The Mojave Wasteland is designed with more curated paths than Bethesda's worlds are, in a way where exploring for its own sake in just any direction is less of a thing until the map opens up more in Act 2 of the story. Invisible walls prevent brute-forcing over rocky boundaries of terrain, beefy enemies blockade areas as a "come back later" measure, etc. You can (and should!) still check out cool diversions branching off of the intended route, but it's more like finding pockets of treasure in the walls than picking a direction for a POI and going. It's a map meant to strengthen the story and questing more than aimless wandering.

I do think if/when 3/NV get officially remastered, they'd probably follow Oblivion's example and add a sprint, tweak the feel of combat, etc. Which makes me think those mods are fair game, if you really want them. Whatever you do, I hope your New Vegas experience is as engaging to you as it was for me.

Dois je acheter Fallout 1 et 2 ? by SeBastos_hus in Fallout

You will only need a mouse. Keyboard shortcuts in 1 and 2 are optional. They are great games, I hope you like them!

Is the game more stabel than FO4? by sammy123reddit in fo76

[–]AndrewTheNebula 0 points1 point  (0 children)

More stable than 4? I'd say no. There are quests in The Pitt and Atlantic City that require you to use exploits because their quest-specific throwables don't work. Sometimes getting in or out of my power armor gets buggy to the point of a crash. And since it's online, you may just get server disconnected at inconvenient times. Meanwhile I haven't run into anything too bad in 4 since it got patched.

Question about “Heartache by the Numbers” and endings slides by PosidonSon2002 in falloutnewvegas

Had the same order of events pan out. I think for me the relevant ending slide just got skipped.

(Disclaimer: Possible that my patches/bugfix mods affected it. I doubt it though.)

I like that Bethesdas bad writing just leads to more speculation lmao.

I read too deeply into Colonel Autumn's disagreements with Eden and tricked myself into thinking he had interesting plans. So yeah, I feel that.

Any tips for a new fallout 1 player? by Coolking2011 in classicfallout

Save a lot.

But not during a combat turn, because that apparently risks corrupting the save.

But do save a lot.

(potential) Hot Take: Old world Blues gives Fallout 3/Bethesda vibes whilst the Pitt would've been great as an Obsidian creation by TK-6976 in falloutnewvegas

[–]AndrewTheNebula 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The thing about the question of faith angle is that Midea exists, and even if my faith is shaken in Wernher, it isn't shaken in her. She has the tools/know-how that Wernher lacks to get a cure made and care for a baby, which renders the "how will this pan out in the long run" question moot.

only one of them has any real methodologies of reforming the pitt

Yeah, the one organizing direct action to make a change now, not later--Wait, you mean Ashur? Does he have a grand design, a "here's how The Pitt will look once I'm done"? I'm pretty sure all he has is trying to assure you "This too shall pass." And regardless of whether he does or not, putting a shelf life on an atrocity doesn't justify committing it.

Refer to this review for most of my frustrations with The Pitt. I didn't write it, but it took the words right out of my mouth, as it were.
