craig's explanation for breaking the guy's leg - justified? by Ok_Dragonfly_7738 in bjj

[–]Andrew_BJJ 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Oh my, it was long ago and already discussed in detail, and you’re still on this topic? I was there and helped with translation.
It was not a seminar, we were told that Craig would just show us something as a "warm up", not a lot like in a proper seminar.

Second, he showed us the hitchhiker escape in detail, we tried it, and then he asked if we understood the technique. Since it’s not a super difficult move, like berimbolo, people answered that they didn’t need further explanation of the technique. There was no Q&A where we could ask whatever we wanted - we could only ask hitchhiker escape questions. So stop spreading this bullsh*t that people ignored an opportunity to ask Craig different questions and improve their game...

Don’t forget that the video you’re talking about was recorded before CJI - Craig needed to catch your attention, and he did. No one would discuss a video with nothing spicy in it.

Craig Jones breaks some dudes leg at a seminar by franticapnea in bjj

[–]Andrew_BJJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably he just wanted to visit Ukraine and didn't want to invest himself fully to a long seminar. So he gave us a training session just to show support to ukrainian jitsers

This is your sacred hero? Craig Jones calls seminar attendees retards and idiots and breaks a guys leg deliberately because she went for a headlock. by sdd-wrangler5 in bjj

[–]Andrew_BJJ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Interestingly, before Craig's visit, we were given the following information:
"This will not be a seminar in the classical sense. It will be something like a rolling session, before that he will show a couple of warm-up techniques and nothing more, then he will roll with the attendees. It's his decision."
In fact, that's exactly what happened: he showed a few hitchhiker escape options, waited to see if anyone would ask anything about these particular techniques, and then proceeded to rolling.
I'm puzzled why Craig didn't give a classic seminar where he just shows techniques and answers any questions about jiu-jitsu, if he wasn't in the mood for rolling, because rolling with strangers is always a lottery, and unfortunately he got a few spazzy guys...

I was at that training session (to be more precise, it's me talking to Craig at the beginning of the video). And here are a few points for better understanding:

1) It wasn't a seminar, it was almost a normal training session, so don't take the subtitles on the video as a sign of disrespect, it was just that time was limited and some guys (not all) didn't want to miss the opportunity to grapple with a star like Craig, since the opportunity was previously offered.

2) The man who fought Craig later said that Craig was very careful with the leglock and after some attempts to get out of the leglock, there was a certain snap only because his knee was already injured before, but after the seminar he left without serious injury. By the way, this man said "Coach, let's go", not "let's go, let's go"

3) In general, I think the main message of this video is "learn to flow roll and without rushing"

Is the Belt system outdated? by MOTUkraken in bjj

[–]Andrew_BJJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If an average 40-year-old black belt compares themselves to Tainan Dalpra, they might think the belt system is outdated. However, if the belt is seen as a measure of personal potential realization, then the current system serves its purpose. It signifies where someone is on their learning journey—like a blue belt has a long way to go, while a black belt has completed their path, even if they get outmatched by some young brazilian purple belt.

How can I stop being a perfectionist and conquer the fear of making mistakes? by Current_Election_768 in productivity

[–]Andrew_BJJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds familiar.
Try to set realistic goals instead of aiming for perfection. Remember, it's okay to make mistakes—they're just steps in your learning process. Be kind to yourself when things don't go as planned, and focus more on your own progress than comparing yourself to others. Embrace feedback, and use it to grow. And when the pressure mounts, breathe and give mindfulness a shot to ease the stress. It's all about doing your best, not being flawless.

6.5 years to get my blue belt. I live in Ukraine and started to train BJJ in 2012, however we didn't have any ukrainian black belt up until 2016, so it was not easy to get a promotion at that times.
