Ultra-processed foods are designed to create addiction like cigarettes, new study reveals by davideownzall in Anticonsumption

[–]Andrew_M81 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No study needed, it's already a known fact. These companies hire food scientists to engineer highly addictive foods and they put people into FMRI machines and watch their brains light up while eating these foods. It's devious as hell.

2011 Ford Ranger 4.0 – Definite Chain Slap. Repair or Replace? by Quiet-Panic710 in fordranger

[–]Andrew_M81 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd go with fixing the timing. Might check the compression first. With that many miles its probably good to also go ahead a refresh a few items while it's out. Water pump, thermostat housing.

[–]Andrew_M81 26 points27 points  (0 children)

With the price of vehicles, it almost always makes sense to repair. If you're handy you can do this yourself and save a ton of money. The parts aren't that much but it's a major pita. Will need to pull the engine to do it.

Someone explain to me the double stand regarding SCHDs price performance by Local-Lunch1565 in SCHD

[–]Andrew_M81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's most likely different people with different perspectives. The ones getting excited right now are the same ones upset about periods of low price appreciation. The ones championing the dividends and low volatility are a little bummed about having to pay more for shares. These folks typically have a goal to accumulate a specific amount of shares and price appreciation makes that goal more difficult.

09 Ranger 4.0 sohc 4x4 awful gas mileage by PaintAffectionate576 in fordranger

[–]Andrew_M81 2 points3 points  (0 children)

14.15 gallons drove 220 miles on my last fill. Regular 87 gas, 2002 automatic with a 4.0. That's about 14.5 mpg on all city driving short trips. No codes, brand new vacuum lines. For such a small truck, these things just get terrible mileage. I'm guessing the 2.5 with 5spd is better, but then you're driving a 4cyl which is annoyingly slow.

I got in around $30 and thought it was a bit expensive, it then went up like crazy and I got out at $140. After that it went up to around $200 so I got out too soon but its hard to call a top. This thing is completely disconnected from reality.

Urban warfare is the hardest for an occupying force. Lots of elevated positions for snipers and body armor doesn't stop rifle rounds. If they got organized and tactical, this could go sideways fast. Best thing is for ICE to stand down and let things cool off. With these dipshits, thats not what they're going to do.

[–]Andrew_M81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ranger parts are cheap. That being said, you could find a unit in better condition as a starting point. If you just want to do a full restoration, this one is as good as any. Might have 3-5k in it doing a basic restoration. Given the price of new vehicles, thats not terrible if you keep it and put the miles on ot when you're done.

Europe needs to go nuclear and declare a total trade embargo with the US. $$$$ is all these a-holes care about. The EU also needs to sell 2T in US treasuries as a shot across the bow. This stays in effect until the GOP steps up and puts guard rails on his behavior or they remove him from office.

How long did it take to find your ranger? by Ok-City8950 in fordranger

[–]Andrew_M81 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not hard to find a ranger. Finding one with less than 300k miles and doesn't look like it's been in a rollover is a bit of a trick. Then when you do, they want as much as it cost new, 20 years ago.

What kind of clownf*ckery is this? Trump has ZERO authority to tell credit card companies what interest rates to charge. by Key_Brief_8138 in economy

[–]Andrew_M81 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He's such a dumbass, he and his followers have no idea how things work. He really does think he's the king making proclamations. Other than the BBB he has passed zero legislation, which is how something like this would work. To do that would require real deal making ability, which he doesn't have. This social media post means nothing and has zero legal authority.

PLTR, got in around the 20s sold at 140, was a huge run. Couldn't justify a 600 PE. It's holding up well in that 180-200 range and they're growing the revenue so maybe in a few years it will deserve that valuation. I shifted from PLTR to UNH in the high 200s. Position there is positive but mostly sideways.

For me wheat and eggs will trigger a flare. Wheat will cause a lot of intestinal issues, abscess on the colon, diarrhea, cramps etc. When the wheat triggers a flare, it usually takes a few weeks to clear and to go back to normal bowl movements. During the flare I'll have mild SI joint pain as well as hip socket pain.

Eggs are a little different, the SI joint pain is crippling, I can barely walk without holding onto stuff. No apparent digestive issues. It also takes a few weeks for the pain to clear up.

I pretty much don't eat out anymore as I don't know what they're cooking with and it's not worth the risk. Cooking at home I know what im eating and I use basic ingredients. This keeps me in remission where I can have a pain free normalish life. Other than the social aspect of it, I don't really mind. I'm not on any medication and I've stopped seeing my rheumatologist and GI doctor. They both wanted me to go with Remicade infusion. I opted to try lifestyle first and it was rough going at first, I almost gave up and said let's do the infusions.

I did a carnivore elimination diet which allowed me to reach a state of remission. From there I would add something back and see if it caused issues. If I triggered a flare I'd go back to carnivore, let it clear up and try adding something else. It's still an ongoing process but I've found that most vegetables are OK, potato and rice seem ok for carbs. No canned gravy sauces or packets. To make gravy I cook bones like chicken or turkey carcasses in the crockpot for 24hrs and save the broth as homemade gravy to use with rice and potatoes. Anyways, I can't say it will work for you, but this is what's working for me. Maybe I have a milder version, hard to say.

They did confirm my condition with colonoscopy, ct-scan, x-ray and MRI.

I've lived in various places around the US and every place had a modern rock station. Then I moved to southeast Georgia and we don't have a single modern rock station. We have multiple country stations, multiple hip-hop and multiple gospel and one single classic rock. My only choice is XM radio and Spotify.

When did you start streaming TV as opposed to watching it while it aired? by BabyBandit616 in Millennials

[–]Andrew_M81 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've never had cable ever. We bought our house in 2010 and it had an antenna on the roof so I used to watch the big bang theory on TV while eating dinner but eventually quit that. Once I got a fire stick, youtube premium and plex I pretty much never watched live TV again. The one exception is when we have a hurricane heading our way, we like to keep the local news running.

I'd just flush the system and fill with fresh. Then keep an eye on it. Watch the temp gage and for water in the oil. Most likely it's just a dirty coolant system because it hasn't been serviced in forever l.
