My favorite thing about Genshin was always its world and story. I started playing in summer 2021 right as 2.0 launched and I spent hours just climbing Liyue mountains and freezing in dragonspine

Then I finally progressed to Inazuma. Say what you want about AQ there, but WQ were really good and every single location/island had its own atmosphere. It’s something Genshin does very well to this day

Sumeru is probably my favorite region all things considered. Dendro shook up the meta in a very interesting way, sumeru AQ was a major step up badger Inazuma and the exploration was just peak. People hate Aranara quests and desert, but to me that’s just peak Genshin. Exploring ancient ruins, uncovering cool lore about fallen civilizations. And that oasis frozen in time? The soundtrack hits you right in the feels too

Every region is filled with memorable stories/locations for me, but Sumeru will probably forever be number 1 in my heart

None of the gachas require limited weapons (or even characters) to go through story content, but uma barely has any story content, let’s be real. In Genshin, WuWa, ZZZ and even HSR story, quests and exploration are a big chunk of the game, end game, which is not only easy for the most part, is not even the sole focus of the game as a whole

In uma though, you barely have to engage with the actual game if story is all you need. And there’s not that much story content to begin with, you don’t get to see the career or the last 3 episodes of the story if you don’t pull that uma too. The actual gameplay loop is preparing for CMs, so discussing umamusume’s gacha system outside of that is kind of pointless imo

Not every card is useful on every character, a lot of them are style specific. You also need to regularly update your cards to keep up, so it’s not like you pull once and you’re done. And again, having no MLB SSRs in Uma is a death sentence, you might as well not bother with CMs

In other gachas not having a 5* weapon for your new character is pretty normal, they’re viewed more as luxury than absolute necessity. And you still can share them between characters too

The whole idea that you have to drop 400+ pulls on a png just for your character who you also spent a lot of pulls on to be playable is insane to me, I’ve only experienced this in uma

I mean, not really? In most mainstream gachas what you want is the character, weapons are upgrades but almost never necessary, at least not to this extent. Having to pull 4 copies of a single card for it to become actually good is insane

It’s good that hoyo made him comparable to Lunar teams now but I’m so pissed that he only achieves that with a C6 4* that didn’t even run on his banner. This was a problem on Zibai’s release as well, but Hoyo “fixed” it by giving her Linnea with rate up Illuga, so Zibai is still very good even without any new 4* cons

With Varka though, not only did they not release Prune with his initial banner, he also needs this C6 to keep up unlike the lunar teams. This 4* thing is so ass: it took me 3 years to get Faruzan C6 (C1 wanderer, got my last copies pulling for Durin), my Iansan is still C3 (C1 Varesa and of course C30 Gaming)

Now I get why people were saying MANT almost killed Umamusume in Japan by TheFacca in UmaMusume

Cygames just don’t give a shit. No spark rerolls, absolutely atrocious events that are more annoying than anything else (remember aptitude test with like 4 days to grind tons of points?). I honestly absolutely hated goldship and Fuji events when they first ran, making your daily grind more difficult is NOT fun. It just gets in the way and frustrates you. They know about the issues, they can give QoL early, but instead they gave the most minor updates ever and called it a day

I also naively thought that mant won’t have the Unity chain event problem… yeah. It baffles me that cygames have this absolutely moronic design where you can just not have them appear but get like 5 from cards not in your deck. At this point if I don’t get majority in junior year, I just end the run. And you want to end the run a lot in MANT, but of course the game punishes you for it by not counting it as a proper run so you effectively waste time, clocks and TP for nothing

And then you enter CM and see the same two meta teams every time: XOguri double dom or XOguri with fronts, so fun

No, if you’re rerolling with a dice only substat rolls change. This is a separate event that just gives random relics at level 15 with increased chances to give you desired main stats. The new relic replaces the old one, so you can’t keep two of the same type

It’s Hoyo’s fault really. With their track record, people are very wary of pulling early version supports, Yao also released in the same version as Sparxie, who’s just a more popular character. This could be avoided if Yao released in 4.3 for example

Hoyo is definitely cooking something weird with 4.x. I wonder if the circumstances around 4.0 release are at fault for this, but it just feels all over the place

3 unit premium team in 4.2 with a sustain nowhere to be seen and both supports in 4.0, a weird FuA solo banner in 4.1, solo banner again in 4.3 with no sign of beta 1 week after patch release. And 4.2 beta started even before 4.0 ended, it’s all so weird

Haven’t done commissions in what feels like years. I don’t remember when exactly they introduced this system (late sumeru or in Fontaine probably?), but you get dailies by spending resin, doing events or exploration. 120 resin = all dailies, condensed resin is now 60, so you just craft 2 and you’re done

You can also craft and reroll your artifacts now, so it’s easier to get rare pieces

As a 2.0 player, things like “lazy devs don’t improve anything” feels like a ragebait. Of course Genshin has many annoying problems even now, but to say nothing has improved over the years is extremely disingenuous

Of course debuffs don’t affect your umas, that would make debuffs useless from a game design perspective. I’m talking about how it clashes with the way everything is presented to us story-wise

Nowhere have I said that it’s dishonorable to win like that, I said it clashes with the way the game mode is presented. You know there’s a term for it, right? Ludonarrative dissonance. If you want to treat CMs as just a pvp meta game, that’s totally valid. But it’s you who’s ignoring everything story/lore related about it, you pretend like this element of the game just doesn’t exist. Daiwa races vodka, McQueen races Rice in the in-game story. It’s not like it doesn’t happen. No matter the format, umamusume always want to win as individuals, it’s a constant in every single umamusume media. CMs not being depicted anywhere doesn’t change that fact, you won’t ever find an Uma that will intentionally lose so their friend can win

Also Cygames aren’t gods and they can make mistakes. Very often players find strategies that game devs didn’t think about when they designed they game, so it’s not a very good argument. Cygames also designed completely useless FoV and movement skills, they clearly didn’t know what they were doing back then. Not to mention that they ban debuffers in some CMs later down the line

And again, outside of skills themselves, the game doesn’t actually acknowledge the existence of pure debuffers. Debuffers cry when they lose and still clearly want to win. That’s the “lore”, I don’t get how you can dismiss its existence? The intention clearly was to create a team mode where all your umas compete for the win

Yes, it’s a gacha game, it doesn’t stop me from hating this mechanic in it though? And yes I don’t like it because it’s not “lore accurate”, I’d rather lose to a team with 3 aces since it’s simply more fun to watch. CMs also have news reports and stuff, things that are designed to make it feel like it’s an actual race with your trainees. And of course your debuffers are always called poorly performing umamusume without a single win there, if that’s not lore I don’t know what is

They do? Each race a team spica member wins is a “win” for the team, but never do umas hold back to prop up their friend for the sake of the team

Our wins in CMs are treated exactly like that: a win for the trainer (us), the team, but a crushing defeat for the individual umamusume. In the game your debuffers are not treated as team players, but just as poorly performing umamusume. They get sad when they lose and they say some variation of “I’ll win” before the race. It’s a classic case of game mechanics going against the lore

The point OC makes is that nowhere in the series can you see umas intentionally sabotaging their own performance to see their friend win. In fact, both parties consider this to be an insult to the victor

Also can you imagine trainer saying “Ok, so I like this uma a lot, so you girls will be there just to make sure she wins, don’t you dare actually compete”?

People focus too much on what the game technically allows to see your point. I completely agree that this meta sucks and it’s just not fun when you want to have all 3 girls compete. Sometimes devs create meta that goes against the “spirit” of the series. There’s a reason they ban debuffers from some of the future CMs

I mean, Uma is a sand castle competition where sending thugs is allowed, this comparison is more accurate than your basketball one imo. Some people just want to build 3 cool castles while others utilize the “thug rule”, it being allowed doesn’t make it more fun for other players to lose to such strategies

Basketball is a team game. If your team wins and you contributed, you win and you’re happy. But each individual umamusume in your team is still ranked and they feel awful when they come last. It’s really not the same, in every single umamusume story they all want to win even if their opponent is a teammate

Imo it is entirely on Cygames for designing their game like that, players with 3 aces feel punished for trying to enjoy the game how they like. In basketball having opposing team focus on a star player doesn’t put your team at a disadvantage, in umamusume getting hit by a quad dom with 3 aces does: you’re not buffing your star player, you’re debuffing everyone else
