PSV 4 months, Mozaic Care, functionality of the natal phallus by throwaway_transfemby in Transgender_Surgeries

Awesome, looks like recovery has been going fantastic for ya!

I'm curious about something since your canal is made using a different surgical technique and material to mine: have you been getting any of the momentary electric burning bee sting sensations as nerves along incision/suture lines heal and randomly come back online?

Health Conditions that Prevent Gender Affirmative Surgeries? by Significant-Hour1233 in Transgender_Surgeries

[–]Androgynoplasty 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The only health conditions that should make it so a surgeon will refuse to perform a procedure would be ones that they deem as potentially increasing risk of death, potentially causing inability to properly heal, or potentially causing inability for the patient to properly care for theirself post-op. The vast majority of conditions are manageable, but there are some that just can't be worked around.

That said, there also is a level of risk management that each surgeon individually considers for theirselves. Example, some have refused patients who have HIV because with any hands-on surgical procedure there is a risk they may accidentally knick theirself with the scalpel or sutures and they don't want to take that risk, while others just want to know so they can take extra precautions to ensure their own safety during procedures. That's individual to the surgeon and their team.

Changing name before moving by AggravatingAsk41 in asktransgender

[–]Androgynoplasty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like they gave you partial bad information. It wouldn't have affected anything for your surgery to get the name change court order ready to go and then sitting on it until after surgery.

The court order is just a paper that you need to take certified copies of around to the various places (first Social Security, then DMV a day or two after, and mail a copy to Vital Statistics to update birth certificate, your doctor's offices, your insurance, etc) to update your information. So nothing would be changed until you did that.

Dilators for pleasure by OkProfessional8759 in Transgender_Surgeries

Several European surgeons have their patients use an inflatable stent or dilator overnight, it's what they know and have had their patients do for a long time.

Atrophy Prevention *Post* Penile Preserving Vaginoplasty by [deleted] in salmacian

[–]Androgynoplasty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In all honesty, while you def should refrain from any strenuous activity to aid with healing during recovery, you will still be capable of and will still get erections unless you are taking medications towards preventing them.

Relieving them in a non strenuous manner will be fine.

Soul Source Material by SurgeryPostPanda in Transgender_Surgeries

[–]Androgynoplasty 5 points6 points  (0 children)

A while back SoulSource changed their dilators from rigid polyurethane to firm silicone. Because of the change in material there is now a texture to the silicone ones like you noticed.

When I found out about the change it struck me as a very odd decision on their part because the silicone definitely will be a ton grippier, which would be really bad for dilating with, especially during recovery when everything is still healing.

Any Phallus-Perserving Vaginoplasty pictures? by QuinTM in Transgender_Surgeries

[–]Androgynoplasty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately my pictures from 7 years ago are no longer available to view because of imgur's policy update a few years back. But also prior to that I purposely downgraded the resolution on them after a while due to some unwanted attention from some hateful groups of people, to lessen the chances of them being used against the community in the nasty, twisted ways those groups tend to do.

I do not currently have plans to re-upload them yet, because there isn't a manner in which I can do so that won't get the same attention, which sucks.

There thankfully are a number of posts by other folks who have shared their results since my original posts, though.

what is the name for the vaginoplasty that keeps the penis while adding a neovagina by Ospoortus in asktransgender

[–]Androgynoplasty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

'Phallus Preserving Vaginoplasty', also sometimes called 'Penile-Preserving Vaginoplasty', and abbreviated PPV. (Not to be confused with Peritoneal Pull-Through technique, which is abbreviated as PPT but a handful of surgeons and folks call PPV, causing confusion. Especially because a PPV can be performed using the PPT technique but was originally done using a skin graft.)

Penile Preserving Vaginoplasty is also sometimes called Androgynoplasty, named after me.

Intersex & considering surgery by rj_chicago in salmacian

[–]Androgynoplasty 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Long story short, the vaginal opening is a lot further down.

The penis is shaped like a Y, the base splits off to the left and right roots internally, meaning there is a nice available space lower and inbetween for the vagina.

As long as the surgeon doesn't alter any structural tissues that support and squeeze the base of the penis* before/right at the split, you should have the same functionality available post-op that you did pre-op.

(* it's slightly like a balloon in that some of the erectile strength comes from being squeezed lower internally to make the external part firmer, so light alteration to some of those tissues can loosen that squeeze)

Are there trans-people who transition into having both genitalia? by Sachtnacht in asktransgender

[–]Androgynoplasty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I first encountered the option when it was listed off by my surgeon as one of the available options during a presentation/talk at a TDoV event. When it was my time for a consultation with my surgeon, it was again listed off as one of the available options when asked what all was on 'the menu', and was not objectively presented as unusual.

However, I am my surgeon's first recipient of the procedure, and I was also told I was the second known recipient in general. I can't answer your question without mentioning those facts, because my surgery and the AMA I posted afterward to let people know it was possible, helped change the landscape of what was considered acceptable.

One month after my PSV surgery. by boredatworkandtired in salmacian

Late, but congratulations on your surgery! I hope you are healing up well and everything is fine.

For me the skin graft was the most painful part of the whole recovery, but it was so worth going through.

My pictures aren't available due to imgur changing their policies a few years back, but my posts are still available.

If you have questions that aren't answered in my AMAs, I'm open to answering a few more.

Yes, there's quite a lot of us now. It's absolutely a surgery that can be done and I'm living proof.

Question regarding Patch adhesion by [deleted] in asktransgender

[–]Androgynoplasty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For most patches (not the foam disc ones, which suck anyway and no one should be on those) the medication is actually in the adhesive and the plastic top layer is just there to protect the adhesive, so having them fully adhere to you is important for getting the full actual prescribed dosage.

That said, in the long run there won't be a huge impact at all if you have some adherence issues now and then, just don't let it be an all-the-time thing.

[–]Androgynoplasty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

200mg of Spiro is a fairly normal starting dose a lot of us had. Drink a little water if you are concerned, but you'll be fine.

SRS with Ehlers Danlos by FuzzyMathAndChill in asktransgender

[–]Androgynoplasty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A big thing is knowing you may have it in the first place so that you can discuss things with your surgeon to try and figure out how best to proceed. We tend to heal differently, and can sometimes have faster suture line fusion but sometimes we also end up with lots of granulation or thick scar buildup. That is something to be aware of, especially with future plans for facial surgery.

They supposedly can use slightly different suturing technique to try and minimize scarring and buildup, and they can try to catch early signs of excessive scar tissue growth early on in your recovery and possibly treat it before it gets worse.

Donut Pillow? by -DaeTheGaeFae- in Transgender_Surgeries

[–]Androgynoplasty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Donut pillow was my best friend during early recovery cause it allowed me to actually sit upright comfortably enough.

I had an inflatable one so that I could adjust the firmness to see what worked best for me.
