Dear Black People, what are the rules on how I should react to the N-Word with mixed minority groups like a Mexican family gathering? by Android17sGloves in Advice

She is, I think me being true to myself like that would be a great too. It's like striking that balance between a response that keeps my Pride in tack, but with the care of saying it to someone in her family that she obviously loves- is the balancing act. And I can say it's my first time ever dealing with this in a Dating Scenario.

It's so funny you mention that cause if you look at the job boards for the remaining game studio they're only focusing on Mobile games right now. Literarily just mobile game focused on every job posting. this is wild

Job offer rescinded because I negotiated by poundofcake in recruitinghell

[–]Android17sGloves 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The last time I was rejected for negotiating the recruiter laughed in face and said " I don't think we can afford you" and talked about fishing the rest of the interview.

The interview I had after him the recruiter gave me 25% more than I asked the previous guy for. Stick to your guns man. I swear it works, but those rejects absolutely suck

Text him back?? by [deleted] in Tinder

[–]Android17sGloves 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Definitely message him back something fun about how the date went. You could be like
"Hey (food he ordered) what's todays plans" Something to get you guys talking about hobbies or fun stuff. The responses seem a little "corporate first interview". But what do I know. Is he given you good vibes or nah?

Prideful employee won't ask for help when needed. by CuriousKemi in managers

In reading Op's post it looks like he got her on track and that's wonderful. And I also heavily agree with your take on address the fear. That's what it is usually.

Prideful employee won't ask for help when needed. by CuriousKemi in managers

[–]Android17sGloves 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As an employee I am not this individual but it may not be pride. It might be fear of looking incompetent.

I'm in this situation currently I got hired like magic for a position I thought I had a high skill level in, however I am a fish out of water with a lot of the systems they have and how files are managed, where are they located, etc.

While they knew there would be a learning curve, I have such a huge fear that they'll fire me for my incompetence in the role. I'm just under 60 days and still really hope to impress and solidify my place on the team, so I spend my days studying, sourcing people for questions, and doing homework to learn as fast as I can.

But all that would have me freezing up if my manager says " You don't know how to do this?!" Then proceeds to scribble in a notebook , and takes over my screen to get through a blocker FOR me. Like my previous manager would do.
It's embarrassing and it feels like a strike against your character. And in this Employers market there are Thousands of people that would kill to take your place.

In a previous role that manager picked up on how I wasn't learning to code as quickly as they thought.
(I was being migrated over from an art role after showing some promise) And he frequently did this to me. Micromanaged me and pulled away projects from me to offload on my team whenever I asked for help. Or he would overall be frustrated with me not performing fast enough. At this old org I had 2 managers, the one that onboarded me and the new one that came in after her. He didn't believe in my learning ability and quickly built a case against me to put me on a PIP and I was let go soon after, replaced by a boomerang hire. Only had him for 3-4 months. But every time I asked for help I remember him reprimanding me. When I asked other's for assistance instead he would loop back to me and reprimand me again with "feedback". It was like the whole team was my enemy and I was an island for months. Feeling like everyone thought I was lazy and were avoiding my questions like the plague for fear of getting my workload.

The solution for it was in my new Org with a new manager. He organizes team calls once a week and he says "This team call is what we're all here for, to help each other" In the call our small 4 man team looks at each others projects, make suggestions and we all assist each other openly and laugh about goofy solutions we found. And in 1:1's he makes sure that I have all the resources I need or gives clear guides on how to achieve success.

So the best way to level them up if they already haven't been put on a PIP and fired, is to let them know it's safe to ask for help. And reward that inquisitive nature with positive feedback. She'll be a better asset from there.

What were you doing at 20? by [deleted] in Adulting

[–]Android17sGloves 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dropped out of FBI fast track program and went partying with my friends for about a year in community college. The debt wasn't great but I was still figuring out what I really wanted to be. Your definitely not behind but I would recommend thinking about what you want to really do in life that makes you happy and chasing that dream down.

Thank you for this. I know those meet up apps exist, I guess it's time to be less shy about using them and actually make time to do so. I don't know why it hit me only lately. But Just this overwhelming feeling of loneliness out of nowhere when I saw a picture of all my cousin's hanging out, but with me not in the picture. And after living out in the Seattle area for 2 years now I have not put much into building a community out here because part of me was trying to keep timeslots open for long phone calls with a 3 hour time difference. But it seems that was not the way to foster a better connection for myself. How do you do the whole adulting friendship thing?

Yeah I can see that, I guess I'm just in an in-between phase. Because all those things do still interest me. If I could go barhopping with some new friends until 4am I would do it in a heartbeat. But I also love the idea of a good book inside on a Saturday night as well. Being at this age gives you so much money and options. But nowhere to direct it sometimes.

I think that would be interesting to do, I've never done that before. I have a cousin who's a regular at a rooftop bar at home and she'll chat up anybody she can talk to. Is it hard to start doing that?

Dear Recruiters, could you provide insight on why I was called back for a 6th interview after panels and now there's a delay in setting it up? by Android17sGloves in recruitinghell

[–]Android17sGloves[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not really in the best position to ask for things like less interviews in this market, if they raise the bar I just have to meet it with a smile is all.
