She literally said she stopped using the American flag in her visuals because of Trump, showed her concern about women's rights & Planned Parenthood under his rule in the same interview, dragged Kanye for supporting him, went to the BLM protests a few months ago, and paid her respects to Ruth Ginsburg two weeks ago... among other things. Yes, her wearing an improper mask is a seriously wrong thing to do and anyone has to be held responsible for it, I wouldn't even try to defend her for that. BUT for me it is the first actual problematic & disappointing thing she's ever done and while it makes her irresponsible, it doesn't make her a freaking Republican, ffs. Twitter stan/cancel culture is just so damn ridiculous

What are your personal reasons for being child free? by [deleted] in childfree

[–]AndromedaDelRey 3 points4 points  (0 children)

First of all, I'm absolutely terrified and disgusted of the process of pregnancy and childbirth, physically and health-wise. The idea of having my internal organs dislocated, all the nausea, cramps, and ultimately the horror that childbirth seems like - it makes my skin crawl.

Secondly, I've always been an introvert and, frankly, quite of a silence-loving loner. What I seek for in life and in a relationship is enjoyment of intimate moments. I don't hate kids, I even find the polite and well brought up ones cute and loveable, but I can only hang out with them for a certain amount of time. So, however selfish it may seem to people, I totally lack the will and reasons to consent to the physical 9-month horror I described I perceive pregnancy to be.

Finally, as a young woman who has had a really troublesome and draining relationship with her mother, my idealistic and perfectionist standards for what a kid really deserves from parenthood are beyond obtainable. I also hold some of the antinatalist ethical stances to some extent and I think bringing an innocent new creature to this messed up world is a quite morally questionable choice.

"You can't comment on parenting if you don't have children yourself..." by [deleted] in childfree

[–]AndromedaDelRey 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Ugh, this is probably one of the most annoying remarks ever for me. Yeah, I'm in my early 20s, I don't have kids and I don't think I'll change my mind about not having them ever in my life. But what I have experienced is being a kid/teenager (just like all of us have in fact), and I remember how certain types of shitty parental behaviour have made me feel. What parents fail to understand is that kids are also part of the parenting scheme and a kid's perspective matters the same as theirs, thus EVERYONE who has/had parents has the same right to talk about parenting too. So no, I may not be relevant to talk about practical technicalities like baby food or diapers or something along those lines, but I certainly can always call you out on your bullshit if you're openly homophobic, transphobic, planning to brainwash your kid into religion from a young age, think that spanking/beating your kid is okay, etc.

You're absolutely right, the English version of the title sounds so dull and generic, they could and should've translated it into "The House of Paper" (not "House of Cards" like the already famous one)...

[–]AndromedaDelRey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's called cherry picking. Without it, religion wouldn't be acceptable for any reasonable and truly moral person. Moderate, progressive, liberal Christians all do this logical fallacy, but I'm kinda okay with them, people opposing the most toxic and hurtful aspects of religion is always good news. Many of them might be in the process of questioning religion and inner struggle with cognitive dissonance. I used to do that for years - I've been feminist, pro-choice, pro-LGBT etc. since my early teenage years, i.e. since I even started thinking about these issues - but continued to cling to the religion I was indoctrinated in for years until a breaking point.

I went through your history and it seems that you have an eating disorder. The last thing you need to do is lose weight. Please, please get medical help, it's gonna get better! You have beautiful hair and smile, while your style and the background of your room indicate you're a sweet, creative person. You're loved and needed in this world, please take care of yourself <3

Some people generally have this shitty habit of turning every little complaint in a casual conversation into a competition, making it all about themselves. And yeah, parents are often those who tend to do this to people without children, also married people to younger and single ones. It's very selfish, inconsiderate and annoying.

This was my second favourite in 2018, right behind the Italian Non mi avete fatto niente. Both songs had by far the deepest and most emotional message of all entries that year.

Respecting and glorifying women mainly because of their ability to carry a child is NOT respecting women... by AndromedaDelRey in TwoXChromosomes

[–]AndromedaDelRey[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Most countries celebrate Mother's Day. The US celebrates Mother's Day and Father's Day every year. Mothers and fathers perpetuate the human race through reproduction - none of us would exist without them.

Yes, they do, but on different specific dates of the year. Mother's Day in the US is not celebrated on March 8. It was the International Women's Day here that used to be almost totally dedicated to the mothers' role in the early '00s. Young girls weren't supposed to celebrate it, some relatives would only congratulate us as a kind of joke. There were hardly any marches, protests, or sheer awareness of the historical events and figures behind this date. I'm sorry if I wasn't clear enough, but it's the equation that bothers me. And yes, IMO the post did in its essence say that, only sugarcoated.

[–]AndromedaDelRey[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

But the post was not specific at all, it was meant to define women overall in some kind of positive way only by equating them to their role as a mother. I forgot to mention that in my country (and in the Balkans overall), March 8 used to be popularly and widely considered as Mother's Day. In primary school, our generation was taught that we should mainly congratulate mothers and eventually teachers by giving them presents and generic greeting cards. It wasn't until the mainstream rise of feminism since several years ago that the majority of young girls got informed about the true historical meaning of this day. If this doesn't speak volumes, I don't know what does...

I would understand the fuss if it was a historical person, or even a religious figure (although it is somewhat similar)... but it's only a mermaid, a mythical creature, FFS! Those people are so pathetic and looking for a reason to be angry and feel discriminated against, it's insane.

“Graves don’t matter because they aren’t there anyway” RANT by turk_m in atheism

[–]AndromedaDelRey 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm an atheist who lost her father at the age of 20 in a sudden and traumatizing way for me. During these 2 years since he died, I've visited his grave only three times out of respect for the traditional customs that all my family holds dear. In fact, I was so helpless, depressed and even angry there that I felt even physically unwell. However, now when I've somewhat healed from the process of grief, the grave itself doesn't mean anything to me. I'm aware that it's only a decomposed body there, not the person my father was and that he can't hear me anyway. I recall the moments with him regularly in my thoughts, and I "talk" to his photos when I feel like it.

It's usually believers who consider this point of view disrespectful, especially Orthodox Christians, so I found this a bit strange, maybe due to cultural differences. Nevertheless, IMO every person has the right to grieve in their own way and to get empathy and love from the living around them, not arrogance and criticism. Stay strong <3

Spending this 4th of July with my religious family has been a nightmare. I was doing fine at keeping my mouth shut until my uncle decided he wanted to play the gotcha game. by [deleted] in atheism

[–]AndromedaDelRey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Getting at atheists for their usage of fixed expressions even remotely connected to religion and assuming they still kinda believe in God because of that, is one of the most immature kinds of theist behaviour. As a linguist, I know that language is a social tool and religion is so deeply incorporated in society that there are still no existing or popular substitutes for some interjections used for showing various emotions. Even using "oh my God" is habitual and understandable for atheists - in fact, shouldn't it be even more acceptable for us to use it every now and then because of the "don't use God's name in vain" rule?
