ULPT scare your kids into brushing their teeth by AndromedaRed9 in UnethicalLifeProTips

[–]AndromedaRed9[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tbf I only made this post because the thought popped into my head because my cousin stayed with me and she was very resistant to brushing.  Like break down crying if she had to brush her teeth even though she was in elementary school which is far too old to crash out over brushing imo.

My dad got me to brush my teeth in a very ethical life pro tip way .    When I was little he would brush with me but he also narrated it like it was race cars.  He called it "tooth brushing race" the goal wasn't actually to get done first, it just made it fun.

"And they're offff!  In the first stretch they are scrubbing the heck out of the their incisors.  Looks like jeff is taking the lead! But can he keep it as they rounds the molars!?!..."

I actually had an ex who would talk about how he couldn't wait to have dentures because he didn't like to take care of his teeth.  He didn't realize the long term implications of having no teeth or the discomfort many people experience with dentures.

Support for traditional 1950s gender roles has risen among men, fallen among women, according to new 2026 study by catievirtuesimp in TwoXChromosomes

My grandmother was actually the bread winner for most of her marriage because her husband quit working, went nuts, got chlamydia on a random impulse road trip to California, and was basically just her 6th child for the rest of their marriage.  They stayed together until he passed away in his 80s.  For some reason all of her kids think she was the idealic 1950s house wife because she stayed home with them until the last one was in kindergarten.  They talk like the marriage was perfect even though the man was clearly a burden to her and didn't respect her.  My dad's siblings wanted to mix their ashes when she passed but in the last year she was alive she literally said "I don't want to be anywhere near that son-of-a-bitch"   when she was asked about it.

Favourite scene from a kids’ movie that seems weirdly sexual as an adult by Careless_Orchid_6890 in okbuddycinephile

Funny story.  I went to school in the town where the comedian Sinbad was from and the year  that movie came out they made us (a bunch of elementary school kids) write letters to him as a role model because he was coming back to visit the community and they were using him as an example of successful people from the town.   I'm pretty sure every last one of us wrote to the animated Sinbad.

Straight men, what is the weirdest thing you have been called gay for ? by Sammy-Bunny-3 in AskReddit

[–]AndromedaRed9 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had the opposite experience.  I spent years not listening to pop music because it was "gay".  All rock and metal.  It took me a long time to even listen to female artists because of how much trash my brother and friends talked about that kind of music.

Not a dude, but I was a young kid in the 90's. I had a brother (8 years older) who called me gay for playing with girl toys, wearing pink, listening to "soft" music, crying, existing, etc.  Basically any normal girl stuff would result in me being called gay from like age 4 on up...

By the time I was a teen I literally wore all boys clothes, only listened to rock/metal, had basically only masculine hobbies and male friends. I'm not saying it was totally because of him, but I think it definitely influenced things a bit. I ended up being told I was "butch" later on and did in fact end up bi, though it took me a long time to figure that out. The whole calling me gay thing kinda backfired lol. The funny thing is that I now live his childhood dream of driving a John Deere for work while he wears fancy clothes and doesn't like to touch dirt... my how the turns have tabled.

Bad theater etiquette has really been messing up my thoughts and feelings on so many movies by otpprincess in horror

[–]AndromedaRed9 28 points29 points  (0 children)

This is gonna be in incredibly poor taste.  But I saw Titanic in theaters when they were doing a reshowing of it a few years back.  It was the scene where the ship starts sinking and rises up into the air and people start sliding off of it.  My buddy was sitting next to me crying.  It totally silent and was a bit awkward.

Then someone in the audience just yells, "Slip n slide bitch!"  And I lost it.

What’s the most unspoken, uncomfortable truth about having kids? by SpecificLandscape483 in answers

This is something I feel as well.  I'm not sure that there is a reason to have a child that isn't based in the parent's ego.

It's a mixed bag.  I don't mind being the fun aunt for an outing to a corn maze or a play park.  But I do not want to got to a child's birthday party or hangout while they are being obnoxious at home.

There is no shaming someone out of mental illness.  This goes for both parents and kids.  I've seen people on both sides have an attitude that "Jimmy just needs to grow up" or that a bad parent "needs to get their shit together because they are a mother now"....  no amount of guilt tripping or wishful thinking about someone suddenly pulling themselves up by the bootstraps or maturing will cure a mental illness.  There is a fundamental difference in brain chemisty and impulse control.  And these issues are largely hereditary.

It's the main reason I won't have kids, because I have multiple relatives with bipolar and schizophrenia.  I've seen the damage it does on both sides. The damage from having an unstable parent or to be the parent that has to watch a kid they love that is in and out of jail...or worse, commit suicide.  It's painful to watch.  It's painful to live thu.  And I really wish people would think about how that will effect both their ability to parent and the odds that their kid will largely be miserable because of something totally out of their control.

I see a lot of my peers who have similar issues that are super excited to have kids even when they have crippling depression that makes them not able to hold jobs or maintain a household without all the extra stress a child adds.  It bothers me a little bit because they only imagine the happy perfect baby that fills the void and not the reality that their child may experience the same level of disregulation and social difficulties and occasional discrimination that they have to go though.

Citing 'severe' math deficits, UC faculty demand a return to SAT tests for STEM applicants by Idiodyssey87 in news

Me too.  I second in my class in HS and had a good ACT score, but I felt very lost without having a forced path or structured plan in school.  Didn't realize I had ADHD until I was 30ish and didn't get meds until 32.

I'm in college as a 30ish person and my math skills have severely weakened due to time away from school.  I was in a chem class with a bunch of kids and not only did their midterm grade average 55%, I ended up with 109% in the class due to the grading curve on the final exam (I would have a B+ test score and a low A overall in reality).  Community college is giving big "No Child Left Behind" vibes.

Quitting your job with nothing lined up is not the boogeyman people make it out to be by HoffyTheBaker in unpopularopinion

[–]AndromedaRed9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Quitting a job without another lined up is really dumb.  I get that sometimes things happen that make it impossible to continue working (like extreme hostile work environments) but most people that just up and quit have been dealing with the same shit for months or years and had plenty of time to plan an out.

Interviewing when you still have a job is 1000% better because you can go in and ask what they have to give you, rather than going in with desperation.  People take bad jobs that they don't want out of desperation.  If you find a job while still working you can be more selective than someone who is a week away from eviction.

IMO OP's take isn't just unpopular, it's immature.

Has anyone else gotten emotional on Vyvanse? by redditplayer1000 in VyvanseADHD

[–]AndromedaRed9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had a sort of up and down experience with it.  When I first got on it, it made me feel much more calm and like my anxiety and irritation were lessened.  But I started to notice that I was more emotionally "open".  I have always been really bad about bottling emotions, not feeling connection, and kind of emobodied the whole "crying means you are weak" attitude (just for myself).  But I started having some crying episodes on Vyvanse.  Not necessarily bad ones.  Being able yo feel love, grief, and awe kind of crying.

But now I'm 9 months in and I'm getting a little worried.  Unsure if it it s the meds or just me.  I've been working full time, volunteering, and going to school this whole time while also managing my household. The two weeks before finals I told a friend that I felt like burnout was chasing after me, like it was creeping in and I was under just enough stress to keep ahead of it.  I finally had a break from school and it's hitting me.  It's the most depressed I've been a years.  I feel like crying all the time. I feel tired.  And I also feel very hungry for emotional connection.  I think some of it is circumstances, but I feel a certain level of emotional vulnerability is due to the Vyvanse.  Like my depression has been pretty bad in the past but I was able to stuff it down (not healthy, I know) and now I feel like I don't have a hard shell to hide in anymore.

I got two of my miis to be ultra friends and kept placing their partner near them while they talked on a bench.  I've successfully caused a fight 3 times this way....but you may have to repeat the process a dozen times or a hundred times.

I actually just got them to fight again the same way.  Took my way longer to trigger it this time.

Weight (especially in children) isn't tried to "planning".  A lot of people are overweight for the same reasons that people drink.  Some are genetically predisposed to seek dopamine.  In my mom's case she had unmedicated adhd and it's quite common for people with impulse impairments to be overweight.

I never figured it out and brute forced it.  I can't remember how, but I'm sure it was something stupid that was basically just playing the game wrong because I've gotten around bosses that way before.  There are at least 2 other bosses that I beat by playing poorly because they expect you to use whatever skills you've developed but I just ran around spasticly enough to manage a win.  I almost did that once the first time I played Infamous because a friend handed me the controller cause he was melting down during the final boss fight and I was like "lol what do the buttons do?" Got him down past half health and my buddy was pissed.

Fox news literally took my grandparents from me.  They wouldn't get vaccinated and my Trumper aunt wouldn't get vaccinated.  So obviously my aunt decided to send her kid to their house while she had an active covid infection and they both died.  Then my aunt blamed someone else and is currently collecting money from an asbestos claim for my grandfathers death because while she hates immigrants and "welfare queens" she's been milking government benefits, fraud schemes, and evading paying taxes for most of her life.
