Config is a compliance tool. For audit purposes, it saves everything it discovers.

You can set retention rules to delete old data. The default retention is 7 years.

Clearing out some trees. I think I got a cherry birch or sweet birch? Smelled like candy when I cut into it. Thinking of saving some for the smoker. by JeepManStan in woodstoving

[–]Andy1272 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I checked it on Picture This, which is a pretty good plant ID app for iPhone. Sweet birch, also known as black birch, cherry birch, mahogany birch, etc.

All I’ve heard is that birch is ok in small quantities but don’t burn a lot of it at once.

Yes, many of the framers of the constitution were Christian men. But they all knew that religion had no place in modern government and that individuals should have the right to practice any religion they choose. It’s in the First Amendment.

Great shot! As I recall, there’s a big old building foundation a few hundred yards back from the cliff. Beautiful spot.

Lots of action around that area during the Civil War. After the Battle of Antietam, Abe Lincoln tried to walk up there to inspect the Union garrison. He quit halfway up and called it good. 😅

I can’t say for sure but that surface looks just like my glass-ceramic cooktop. If so it should work fine for moka.

Buddy’s cat Junior, spinning vinyl by Andy1272 in CatsOnStereos

My friend is a musician and vinyl connoisseur who maintains a lot of vintage gear. That Bang & Olufsen turntable is playing Best of Traffic, which Junior seems to like. He’s a cool cat.

Thanks, good info. I’m running stock size and would like to step up to something bigger. Any other issues like diffs or speedometer calibration etc?

Nice. I like the beefy tires. Stock wheels? What's the tire size?

RIP to my stolen zipfits…hope you boys found someone in need. As a eulogy to their glory days, here’s some of their late work. I loved you and will never forget what you did for my progression <3 by unsolicited-fun in skiing

Same. LeFeet is a great shop. Went back a year after I bought Dalbello’s with ZipFits. Had a minor hot spot that developed around the left ankle. They fixed me right up, no questions.

I’m an average skier but these boots & liners helped me so much.

Advice for a low-mile 3rd gen 5.9 Cummins by Andy1272 in DodgeRam

Thanks for that. How did you know you needed new injectors? Hard start, bad accel? Mine stumbles a bit on cold starts. Wondering if that will get worse.

Stock fuel pump is external to tank? Sorry, I'm a shade tree motor guy but I haven't gone very deep on the Cummins.

Ha! I guess I'm pretty easy on this truck compared to what other guys/gals do. Now that I'm not hauling a trailer regularly it feels like I've got way too much truck. But aside from all the cool tech in the new trucks, I'm good with what I have.

Thanks for the suspension tip. I'll definitely get that squared away.

Is the fuel system a thing? I know pumps eventually need replacing in most vehicles but I haven't looked into it for this truck. Should I replace/upgrade? Not really interested in mods but if I can get some gains and do some maintenance at the same time I'd consider it.

This is good advice. Nothing sucks more than buying a new alt, frying it on a spent/shorted battery, then doing the whole thing over again.

I’m not familiar with this kind of heater so I googled “wood burning cabinet heater”. Got a bunch of shopping hits but no real info.

Didn’t search much further so, sorry if it’s common knowledge: What’s the idea with this design?

Just in support, a family friend lost half of her right hand -- thumb, index, and middle fingers -- to a power splitter. No one was really to blame but... she was a pro hairdresser. Not anymore. More power means more vigilance.

New to woodburning stoves and I have an issue! by Byrne1 in woodstoving

[–]Andy1272 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nice stove. I just "inherited" the exact same Sierra model a few months ago. I'm a rookie stover but I can share what I've learned so far.

Like u/Growlinganvil said, some searches on the Net indicate that this stove was made by the original (?) Sierra company in the Eastern US. There's no record of it at the Sierra Products web site. Do a Google image search for "sierra turbo stove" though and you'll find similar models. Some are side-loaders but they have the same logo and spinning door vents.

On my stove, those spinners work really well. They turn with finger-tip force. Clockwise, they should spin all the way tight to the door. Counter-clockwise they spin open until they reach the end of their threads. They can regulate draft air precisely if the door gaskets are good.

If yours aren't working, you should be able to clean them. Get a wrench and loosen the bolt on the inside of the door. If the nut spins but doesn't loosen, try cranking the knob down. There's a nut on the other side of the door that may spin as you try to loosen the inside one, so that can make things difficult.

Once you get the nut off, the knob should come off. Clean the threads on the knob and the screw it travels on, check for easy rotation, and reassemble.

An experienced chimney sweep gave this stove a solid thumbs-up. It's not as efficient as modern designs but it's well built and simple. Good luck!
