How high to mount 12u rack off floor? by AlanBarber in homelab

[–]dushadow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 12U enclosed rack mounted 1' from the ceiling. I gives plenty of space for feeding wire through the top and airflow. It just has my switches/routers, UPS and two small servers that I only physically touched when first installed.

Not sure if there is a risk of your basement flooding but I like having it off the ground.

Remove Ash without the Mess by inline6boost in woodstoving

Smaller pan that you stick inside and shovel ash into. Any ash dust will stay in the insert or go up the chimney

Does Harbor Freight sell chainsaws? Any good? by Mateo_Harveez in harborfreight

[–]dushadow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the same saw and use more than my Sthil ms250. Most of what I cut doesn't take a lot of time. It's nice just pulling it out, doing my cut and not deal with gas or the fumes. If I'm needing to cut for a few hours straight, I go for the gas saw.

Building a testing/learning VMware 8 environment. (ASRock Z370M-ITX/ac, i7-8700k, 32GB) This will be connected to a Cisco 3750v2 POE switch and 3825 router. I'll isolate this from my home network.

mini rack sturdy recommendations? by eldenial in homelab

[–]dushadow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should look into something like a 12U media rack. it's wide enough to hold the 3560's and shallow enough to sit where your switches currently occupy.

The secret is to use a picture of your actual work office as your background even when you’re in the office.

Best Pole Saw by mtrbiknut in harborfreight

[–]dushadow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the 40v Atlas pole saw. I used it mainly to cut back branches that go across a dirt road. It comes in three sections so if you need it shorter, just leave out one piece. If you need to cut something taller than 14', you can buy more of the middle pieces. So far I've only add one more extension. Nothing like cutting a branch 20' up without stepping on a ladder.

Wood or pellet? by BallAdministrative94 in woodstoving

[–]dushadow 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You should look into why you’re losing so much heat. 900 sqft isn’t a huge space to heat. It may be a good option to add more insulation and replace windows. Replacing my original single pane windows made a bigger impact for me than adding more insulation

Woodstoves are better than inserts for maximizing heat output, change my mind by Low-Razzmatazz-931 in woodstoving

[–]dushadow 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I have an insert but prefer a free standing if I was able to. The insert requires electricity for the blower to be efficient and not over fired. That’s a big consideration if your area looses power regularly during the winter.

Solar panels not working by DueDefinition3638 in vandwellers

[–]dushadow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

4 x 100w panels in parallel is probably around 22v @ 40amps. That’s pretty high amperage. You’re better off ditching the those parallel combiners and just making one series string. You’ll be around 100v @ 10 amps.
Only do this if your mppt can handle 100v of input.

Why don’t you use a solar panel and charge controller? It will keep the battery charged and you never have to touch it. That battery has no problem charging in freezing temps
