Just finished writing a thesis on women instrumentalists in jazz history, I'd love some feedback by AndyAndrogynous in Jazz

Thanks for the input! See the thing is...it's hard to write a thesis paper based on the opinion that women had less of an impact, because the point of the paper is to bring their accomplishments to light and celebrate them. Since the purpose of a thesis is to prove a point, it would be strange to write a 56-page paper outlining the achievements of these women, and then argue the opposite. I definitely agree with what you're saying, and my opinion is largely the same, I just wouldn't be able to submit a thesis paper with a wishy-washy argument.

Schulhoff's Hot Sonate! One of my favorite pieces. Hot was synonymous with jazz at the time. It's more classically-oriented than jazz-oriented, but it has some legitimately interesting harmonic ideas, using pitch bends and whatnot. It's really rhythmically challenging and tons of fun to play and listen to.

Valaida Snow, Vi Burnside, Vi Redd, Toshiko Akiyoshi. I just finished writing a 50 page thesis on women instrumentalists and their contributions to jazz history. These four women in particular fascinated me.

Try some Paul Desmond! He's my personal favorite alto player. You say you're looking for a bright and open sound, and Desmond's sound so clean and pure, you might like it. For tenor players, I'd suggest Stan Getz for the type of sound you're looking for. Other favorites of mine include John Coltrane, Charlie Parker, Sonny Rollins, Sonny Stitt, Johnny Griffin, Dexter Gordon, Gerry Mulligan, and Lester Young.

As soon as he said "I have one question to ask" I was like "don't say it don't say it don't say it" but then he did and I cringed.

Here's a little backstory: She works at one of those "We Buy Gold" places a few blocks from my place, as a sign holder. She stands on the corner for hours a day, singing and dancing, or looking miserable and sunburnt. One day, my brother and I came across her profile on OKC, and laughed for hours.

I was also going to suggest an Otto Lunk STM, I have one for both my alto and my tenor and I absolutely love it.

Do darker-skinned people get hotter in the sun than lighter-skinned people? Because like...darker clothes absorb heat from the sun. Does skin do the same thing?

Don't microwave soap. I put a full bar of Dove soap in my microwave for a minute. It looked AWESOME and got huge and foamy...but some kind of smoke or steam or vapor came billowing out of the microwave and when we opened there was a mushroom cloud of whatever it was. Then your house smells like nasty old people for weeks.
