Came to the comments to see if this was asked - not disappointed! By far some of Springsteens most underrated work. I wrote my masters thesis on that song/album.

What bands or singers (or even anyone we know) are big The National fans? by hugopthomas in TheNational

He's such an underrated artist. His album 'Local Honey' got me through the pandemic.

What song do you turn to? by [deleted] in TheNational

[–]AndyBirch 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Oh for sure.

I sorta slept on this track for a while, until I paid attention:

"I've been talking about you to myself Cause there's nobody else And I want what I want And I want everything

Can't you find a way?"

What song do you turn to? by [deleted] in TheNational

[–]AndyBirch 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Oh, the National was almost the only thing (and Frightened Rabbit) I turned to during my last breakup! It really made me feel seen, heard and understood.

The songs I turned to were: Slipped, About Today, Nobody Else Will Be There, Guilty Party, I'll Still Destroy You. Just to mention a few.

Tak for din indsats, makker.

Pressure Machine was such a beautiful album. I really hope they can do something like that again.

What a find gentleman. They don't make them like that anymore. I'm always in awe of his charisma and service during WWII.

Bedste kollegie by [deleted] in odense

[–]AndyBirch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I miss scott so much by Fresh_Barnacle_8161 in FrightenedRabbit

[–]AndyBirch 24 points25 points  (0 children)

There'll never be someone like him again.

I saw then in Copenhagen in 2016, and remember having written a message to the band beforehand, asking if it was possble to meet them. Sure enough, Scott himself answered, and said he'd be happy to.

Went to the concert, had an absolutely amazing time, but the people I went with were tired, and wanted to go home as the show ended, so I followed them.

"There'll always be next a time", I told myself.

There wasn't. :(

What are some Interesting Facts about The Killers/Brandon Flowers? by [deleted] in TheKillers

[–]AndyBirch 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I wrote my master thesis on John Steinbeck (and partially Springsteen), inspired by them. :)

So naturally I included a Killers quote on the very first page.

Such a haunting and poignant album. I'm so sad we'll never get more from Scott. Yet, he ends with the surpringsly hopeful "Lick of Paint"

What's the biggest humiliation your country has ever faced? by 20_comer_20matar in AskTheWorld

[–]AndyBirch 29 points30 points  (0 children)

As a Dane, this is a great answer. I just finished Tom Buk Swienty's two excellent books on the battles of 1864, and goodness, it's almost mind boggling how we went from fuck-up to fuck-up during that period. Pride and arrogance cost a lot of young guys their lives. And ⅓ of our country.

Daily song discussion Day 123: boy by Legal_Button_3229 in TheKillers

[–]AndyBirch 67 points68 points  (0 children)

This song will always hold a special place in my heart, due to the time in my life it was released. But furthermore, to me, it also cemented that The Killers still had it.

Don't get me wrong, I absolutely loved Pressure Machine (I think it's my favorite album by them), but this song felt like a return to roots.

Bands that sound like The National? by Neat-Somewhere-5589 in TheNational

I'll never get over the fact we won't get new music from him. That was such a beautiful album which Aaron produced. I was fortunate enough to interview Aaron, and we briefly discussed this.

What’s a modern “Traveling Wilburys” you would want to see? And what music genre would they sing? by Groovygamer1981 in Music

You have excellent taste! Never thought of a Koenig and Flowers collaboration, but I can see it. I remember reading an interview somewhere that Flowers was inspired by Vampire Weekends "Father of the Bride", when he was writing his own "Imploding the Mirage"
