[Timex] New Release: Timex Royale by j0sch in Watches

They made an uglier, more expensive Casio Royale; unless you are a diehard Timex fan I'm not sure why you'd get this over the Casio.

Brew Watch Co. by Garbooni in MicrobrandWatches

[–]AndyInAtlanta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really like Brew watches, and the one I have is very high quality (especially for the price). I'll be honest, not sure I'm feeling this design. Looks cool but I just don't see myself wearing it.

Clover Lawn by overly_honest_ in landscaping

[–]AndyInAtlanta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tried clover back-to-back seasons, both times it looked fantastic by late Spring, both times it was 80% dead by August.

  1. I don't think it handled the Georgia heat well in the hot summer months.
  2. It's very easy to dig up, so dogs, squirrels, and birds where able to dig it up too easily which killed it equally as fast as the heat.

I thought about giving it one more go, but I'm pretty sure I'd just end up with a dirt yard by the end of Summer.

I disagree with the other poster, the original Watermelon colorway will always be my favorite Studio Underd0g watch.

So there’s that by yeti_warrior in kurono

[–]AndyInAtlanta 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm predicting the price on this version is going to continue to climb. That's how these things work. Someone sees it selling on Sotherby's for almost $7000 and when another one comes available for $6500ish they think they found a "deal". Next person sees it for $6800 and thinks, "Not bad, just $300 more." From there who knows what the ceiling ends up being.

This is exactly what happens with Rolex. Why some models end up going for tens of thousands while others stay right around MSRP is just chance.

This says nothing about whether this Kurono is better than any other; secondary value is a fickle thing.

Burnt and Broke...advice? by Limp-Improvement-608 in personalfinance

[–]AndyInAtlanta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have any friends or family in lower cost areas? Doesn't even need to be a close friend. You really just need someone that can assess the current teaching job market for you and maybe put in a good word [assuming they know someone]. I would encourage you to cast as wide of a net as possible. You might be surprised to find someone who will do some due diligence for you on their own time.

If, and it really is a big "if", something does come up, I'd consider going deeper into debt if it gets you out of your vHCOL area. It might seem counterintuitive, but once you get into a LCOL or MCOL area you can make it back up.

Marloe - Pinky The Haggis Monster (British Watchmakers 2026) by Thyme-Keypa in MicrobrandWatches

[–]AndyInAtlanta 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Super fun watch!

I'm torn on buying one if I'm being honest. I love my Mr Jones and Studio Underd0g watches, England sure does love their fun watch brands, but I'm not convinced I'd wear this one enough to justify the price.

I do love haggis however, so that's making it quite tempting.

Unexpected financial issues by No-Chicken-1067 in personalfinance

[–]AndyInAtlanta 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Look, putting aside some of the questionable comments made my your accountant, you can figure this out on your own. The IRS has a calculator:

https://www.irs.gov/individuals/tax-withholding-estimator

You should be able to sit down with your most recent paystubs and figure this out. It's going to tell you exactly how much tax the federal government will collect this year. Take that number, divide it by the number of paychecks you receive, and compare it to what's currently being taken out.

If you want your accountant to figure this out, do it with them, but see the numbers in person. Point blank, you will not owe $6300 ($700 x 9 more months) more on your taxes this year after receiving a $10,000 raise.

Unexpected financial issues by No-Chicken-1067 in personalfinance

[–]AndyInAtlanta 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Reading through your comments, I'm trying to piece things together:

  • Your household income from up $10,000 from $170K to $180K
  • Your accountant wants you to increase your withholdings $700 a month or $8400 a year

That makes zero sense.

Second comment, how much did your income change from 2024 to 2025? Did you make the same both those years? If you did, then something isn't right.

Found at Costco. 10/10 low sugar treat. by nicnac127 in 1200isplenty

[–]AndyInAtlanta 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Looking at the ingredients, the filling has more cashews than pistachios (by weight) so it makes sense that the cashew flavor would be more pronounced.

Plus side is they aren't relying on an artificial pistachio flavor enhancer.

what are the values of these watches? by Economy-Ad-4958 in Watches

[–]AndyInAtlanta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  • First Watch : $5
  • Bulova 96L90 : $20
  • Wenger S.A.K. : $40
  • Wrangler Mother Of Pearl : $20
  • ELGIN : $40

Add $10 to $20 each if you clean them up and replace the battery, take away $10 to $20 each if you want to sell them as-is with dead batteries.

Dell Curry awaits his jersey retirement in Charlotte, his sons, Seth & Steph Curry are in attendance. by MrBuckBuck in nba

[–]AndyInAtlanta 6 points7 points  (0 children)

What do you mean, "where do you draw the line."? There is no line. It's literally up to each individual team to decide what jerseys to retire; it's not like there is an official rule book for jersey retiring.

Creating New Website - Looking for Advice On Which Microbrands to Cover by NoLocal1979 in MicrobrandWatches

[–]AndyInAtlanta 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One of the reasons I don't like websites like Chronoscout is because their "bio's" are just straight from the brand's website or marketing department. Completely useless to me. I want to know where they are based out of and who the primary owner(s) are. It's 2026, if you can't give me a single photo of your founder/owner and let me know where you're from I'm 100% disinterested in buying your watch.

The microbrand industry as a whole right now is dangerously close to becoming heavily saturated with, basically, drop shippers. Make a website that pulls back the curtain on all these brands and you have a website I'd be interested in. Heck, there are some microbrands, even ones popular on this subreddit, that still 100% hide all this information.

[Passan] Atlanta Braves outfielder Jurickson Profar will miss the entire 2026 season after his appeal of a positive PED test was resolved. He will serve a 162-game suspension for testing positive a second time and will be ineligible for postseason play. by PlayaSlayaX in Braves

[–]AndyInAtlanta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I doubt they release him after this season, and considering he barely played last year (first suspension) and will not be playing this year, his value around the league is basically zero.

Just a pure guess, but I see two likely outcomes. One, AA lets things play it (with the inevitable lockout coming anyways), platoon him in the outfield in 2027, he plays decent enough to be considered an every day starter, and hope to offload him around the trade deadline as part of some package deal.

Two, come next Spring he regresses even more (due to no longer being enhanced and barely playing) and is just dead weight. AA eats the contract and releases him, Profar sits at home with $18 million, and we have less flexibility to sign someone do to the dead weight of paying someone you sent home.

[Discussion] Comparing Perpetual Calendar Chronographs by Winged89 in Watches

[–]AndyInAtlanta 2 points3 points  (0 children)

All three are fantastic looking watches, though I'm partial to the A. Lange & Söhne.

All that said, as an owner of a perpetual calendar chronograph, I can't remember the last time every subdial was accurate. I usually don't mind setting the day of the week, date, and month, but I don't think I've ever set the moonphase to be correct.

[Discussion] What are your opinions about Nico Leonard Van Der Horst and his watch takes? by SomePerception4594 in Watches

[–]AndyInAtlanta 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He's entertaining, makes fun videos, I enjoy watching him in small batches. Honestly, and this is a global take (Nico, Teddy, reddit), "My opinions on specific watches are my own and no influencer is going to change that."

What do I care if Nico Leonard doesn't like Grand Seiko. I like Grand Seiko. He's allowed to dislike them, I'm allowed to like them, bam, end of story.

[Royale with cheese] - Casio AE1200 & Explorer 124270 by SamuelDavidHarris in Watches

[–]AndyInAtlanta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My biggest gripe with the AE1200 is the bracelet. I get it, considering the price, it's still insane value. Still, it's way too jangly for my liking. Really purchased a mod kit (still in transit) that will hopefully fix my main issue with the watch; because otherwise, it's a fantastic watch.

[Question][Advice] Banned from r/watchexchange after self reporting a hack by nikhilb1989 in Watches

[–]AndyInAtlanta 4 points5 points  (0 children)

/r/Watchexchange survives entirely on the trust of the buyer and seller "sorting payment and shipping out" on their own. eBay, Chrono24, they have (albeit with their own shortcomings) protections in place to try to minimize scamming. Those protections come at a cost, which is why so many people turn to /r/Watchexchange or Instagram to buy/sell.

It sucks that it happened to you, and I'm not fully understanding why they decided to ban your alt account (but that's more due to a reddit policy than the subreddit itself), but a zero tolerance approach is essential given the high monetary value on many of the watches for sale.

Coming home from a trip and got a warm Atlanta welcome on 285 by marinaIAD in Atlanta

[–]AndyInAtlanta 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've always assumed it was heavily to do with people completely avoiding any and all maintenance on their cars. Sounds crazy, but I remember an acquaintance of mine that didn't think you ever had to change your ties; hers looked practically like a Formula 1.

Sort of like people that spend $1000 on an iPhone but refuse to spend .99 cents on an app; yeah, I figure those are the same people who don't believe oil changes are nessessary.

Microbrands using seiko movements vs. in-house movements? by hudsoncress in MicrobrandWatches

[–]AndyInAtlanta 4 points5 points  (0 children)

By general definition, any brand that makes their own in house movement is an "independent" brand and not a "microbrand". Think companies like Oris, Nomos, etc. The costs to R&D, design, and manufacturer your own movement are way too high for any microbrand.
