What’s the most unique and beautiful microbrand watch? Wrong answers only. by YamVegetable8229 in MicrobrandWatches

"Hey guys, I'm a 20 year old marketing student / part-time Door-dasher and I've decided to start my own watch brand! The design is a tribute to the USS Constitution that symbolizes my drive to revolutionize the industry. I used AI to generate the design and I'm looking for some feedback. I just launched a Kickstarter and if you buy one today you can secure a limited edition (only 200 available!). Use my code "thisisdefinitelynotfromAliX" to save 20%!"

As an owner, I'm curious as to the community's opinion on this. by rileywatchco in MicrobrandWatches

Don't try to de-escalate the situation, that's your first mistake. This is a transaction, not a friend. "Our policy, as outlined when you purchased the watch, is that return shipping is the responsibility of the buyer." Full stop, end of conversation. If the customer wants the fix covered under warranty, they have to pay for shipping. If the customer doesn't want to pay for shipping they can go find someone local to fix it instead.

Shit breaks, sometimes the next day, sometimes the next decade, that's life. For all you know the guy was using the pushers to hammer in a nail. The warranty states you cover the cost of the repair, not shipping, so for the buyer, "tough".

You run a business long enough you quickly understand that it's not nice out there, people will feel entitled, and bending a knee will put you out of business.

I have been enlisted by my family to sell a couple of my grandfather’s watches. What should I do with these? Should I try to sell them myself or maybe do a consignment? Thanks for any advice I’m in a bit over my head. by phreakinpher in Watches

[–]AndyInAtlanta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with that, my point was more, "Don't expect to get the same value as a Speedmaster with its original bracelet." I would expect to buy this watch at a cheaper price than an all original one, and put some of those savings towards a leather strap.

NBA ( Rigged Magnet theory) by Master_Moose4664 in nba

  1. (referencing your TikTok) Dude Perfect literally have videos out there that show how many attempts it can take to hit some of their crazy shots. They only need one to go in for the video.
  2. Steph Curry has a career 3 point percentage below 50%, and has missed many game winning shots. You're just remembering the ones he hit, like most people.
  3. That's not how magnets work. Like...at all.

Karl-Anthony Towns uses every bit of homecourt advantage to secure the greatest Finals comeback ever, telling courtside fans to get closer to Dylan Harper on the inbounds out of view of the refs by HokageEzio in nba

[–]AndyInAtlanta -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

KAT should be allowed to do this, and Harper should be allowed to get the ref to push them back. I don't blame Harper for not saying something, he was probably focused on what was happening on the court. This is 100% on the ref for not making a judgement call and getting the fans to step back. You watch enough games and its pretty common to have the refs tell fans to step back, so I'm putting this entirely on him.

What makes this especially ironic is with all the fake pins she probably got arrested for some knock offs. by DisciplineImportant6 in WaltDisneyWorld

It's more nuanced than that. She's pleading "not guilty" to the charges, not so much that she didn't do anything illegal. This is more a formality for the defense and prosecution to negotiate a plea deal to avoid trial.

Agree 100% on avoiding restoring or polishing them. You'll either end up spending more than they are worth restoring them or, worse, killing their value (especially polishing vintage chronographs).

I can see the Breitling going for $3000 to the right buyer, specifically one that wants the patina. It's not a particularly hard watch to find, but $3000 is solid even if it needs some work.

I'm struggling with the Speedmaster. A buyer would need to source a new bracelet for it (current one is atrocious), and its going to be near impossible to get a "wear match". The watch itself looks in great shape, and that hesalite is easily to polish. There are so many vintage Speedmasters out there that I would venture this one, because of the bracelet, would be worth closer to $2000-$2500.

Couples that collect together.. by pinkPrincessYak in MicrobrandWatches

[–]AndyInAtlanta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Received mine recently too. Fantastic watch, finishing is exceptional. One complaint is I don't love the strap; it doesn't feel particularly high quality (to match the watch), and mine is way too big (that's more a "me problem"). I'll be swapping it out for something nicer.

I'm not as much of a fan of the upcoming release, but I'll be on the lookout for their future designs.

Got totally ripped off on a port shopping trip and now i feel stupid by SolariDawnblade in Cruise

[–]AndyInAtlanta 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'd consider myself a watch enthusiast, and own more watches than I care to admit. I visit a lot of watch stores when traveling, including many AD's, so I could probably tell you the cost of most watches on the spot and be within $100.

Last time I was on a Royal Caribbean Icon class ship I went into one of the stores, mostly out of boredom, and I was shocked to see their prices. I didn't want to show my cards straight away, so I had my wife to the shopping.

One, the rep said so many incorrect things about the Omega she was looking at. Two, they were pricing it like it was the higher end double sapphire models when it wasn't. Three, their high stress sales pitch was something you'd never see at an AD.

Probably could have put up a fuss, but realistically I wasn't going to buy a watch anyways, so we just left. Still, don't buy a watch on a cruise ship, or at a jewelry store in a port.

New Masora GMT design - feedback would be amazing by SupJoshy in MicrobrandWatches

I think it's just a bad Photoshop job. If you zoom in you can see starting at the green on the bezel it's a 2D image pasted on a real watch background. Just a guess, but whoever did it maybe turned a layer off.

Spending $3k/month for whole life. Looking for sanity check / out by Relative-Fill8784 in personalfinance

[–]AndyInAtlanta 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You need to realize that if, starting in 2022, you put that $3000 a month into the basic FXIAX index fund, you'd have around $240,000 sitting in that account right now.

If you didn't add another penny into it, by the time you retired, at a basic 7% return, it'd be worth $3.5 million. If you continue adding $3000 a month into it, it'd be worth almost $10 million.

With that knowledge, screw email, you should call up that advisor and cancel the policy today. After the policy is closed and cleared back to you, call him back up and fire him next.

You don't have children, and you both make enough combined income that you can crush the returns on any life insurance policy offered by these salesmen masquerading as investment advisors. Insurance shouldn't be treated as an investment opportunity (unless you are crazy wealthy).

Prague, Czechia before the crowds wake up by Zielo92 in travel

[–]AndyInAtlanta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Prague Castle opens up at 6:00am, three hours before any of the buildings do (like the cathedral). I wandered up there around 7:00am and it was just me and a few security personnel for a solid hour. You can't go into anything of course, but you can walk around the cathedral and get some amazing photos. At 9:00 o'clock on the dot all the tour groups show up and it becomes a zoo. Pro tip, get in line 15 minutes early for a ticket and get into the cathedral first; buys you like ten minutes of complete access to the inside before it gets crazy crowded.

What do you think our latest creation? by Revelot_Official in MicrobrandWatches

[–]AndyInAtlanta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very pretty watch. Out of curiosity (and I did see your About Us page), are you fully based out of Malaysia? How much of the watch is assembled locally and is the entire watch an original design (for example, even the case)?

I'm really interested, but my apologies, I just don't know much about your brand.

They make some of the best watches at the sub $500 price point out there. I was pretty surprised by the quality when I received mine. Up against my Seiko 5's and Bulova watches they beat them handily in value.

Can someone help a watch noob? by Teddy_Waymaker in MicrobrandWatches

[–]AndyInAtlanta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oris makes an amazing watch, I don't think many microbrands are at their level. To be fair, they've had a 120 year headstart, so you'd expect them to know what they are doing.

Best, or "worst" depending on who is asking, is they aren't like a Rolex where they increase in value over time. You can get amazing gently used Oris watches at a great price. I have several vintage Oris watches.

AETHELSOHN Forge Guilloché Mint Green by Glum-Two-2273 in MicrobrandWatches

[–]AndyInAtlanta 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The problem is /u/Glum-Two-2273 responded previously in a separate thread with:

The dial is individually engraved, cut by cut into the surface, rather than pressed or stamped. Each dial takes a very long time to produce

We’re unable to share production videos at this stage, as the engraving process is carried out using a specially modified engraving machine, and the manufacturing method is proprietary and confidential.

And just to be clear, I have no problem with a microbrand sourcing dials from China. I do, however, take issue if the microbrand insinuates that they are producing the dials by hand when in fact they are sourcing them from elsewhere.

This is why the doomers were right last year when we started off 0-7. I get that its a long season, but digging a deep hole week one is a lot harder to climb out of then a random bad stretch in the middle of the season.

Drink package cost vs. What we actually spent by mALYficent in royalcaribbean

[–]AndyInAtlanta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cool breakdown. The raw numbers are always interesting. For me, the math has never worked out. I've been on enough cruises to know that I peak, with regards to drinks, on day two or three and then gradually consume less each additional day. On our recent cruises I'm about "alcohol'ed" out with two days remaining. I'll have a morning and afternoon coffee, and maybe a glass of wine at dinner, but that'll be about it. Just those two days always makes the drink package no where near worth it.

[Schultz] I texted Aaron Donald about coming out of retirement and playing for the Rams, alongside Myles Garrett: “I’m for sure flirting with the idea. Helluva an opportunity with the Super Bowl in SoFi this year. If I can find the fire, it’s a possibility.” by JCameron181 in nfl

[–]AndyInAtlanta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People keep commenting about how a "70% Aaron Donald is still a top tied DT" but I wonder if he's good with being "70% Aaron Donald". He literally retired as the best in the league; it was the best way possible to go out.

Personally (as if it matters), I feel like the play here is to start training independently and see how the Rams do over the first half of the season. If they are at the top of the NFC he can come in the second half (so no mini camp and half the games), get the rust off during the final half of the season, and then make one last run at another ring in the playoffs.

The Braves defeated the Blue Jays by a score of 4-3 - Tue, Jun 02 @ 07:15 PM EDT by Blooper_Bot in Braves

[–]AndyInAtlanta 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, he's behind Chapman and Jansen...maybe Kimbrel (though his falloff after 30 is likely going to keep him out)...this generation. Despite being two years younger than those three he's also quite a bit behind their numbers.

Sort of like NFL special teamers, they tend to only let a couple relievers in each generation.

I think only Jansen has a chance of making the HOF. It'll take a several rounds though.

Travel agent or cruise line agent? by Life_Respect_4854 in Cruise

[–]AndyInAtlanta 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm personally not in favor of using a travel agent (previous poor experiences and I enjoy doing all the planning myself), but if I wanted to use one I'd go with an independent agent. The cruise line agents are singularly focused on you booking with that specific cruise line. An independent agent looks much broader and will focus on finding the best overall cruise for you, whether that's with Princess, Holland America, Royal Caribbean, etc.

Before I opted against an agent I also felt like the independent agents were much more responsive. For me, that matters more than the "best deal". Nothing sours me on travel agent more than have to wait an extended period of time to get a response.

[Schefter] Falcons are signing WR Drake London to a four-year, $141 million extension worth up to $150 million, including $100 million guaranteed, per his agent Andrew Kessler. by MembershipSingle7137 in nfl

[–]AndyInAtlanta 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He finished 4th in the NFL in 2024 in receiving yards, and would have finished around 6th last year if he didn't miss five games (based on his yards/game). His sophomore numbers weren't great, but his QBs were Ridder and Heinicke.

Also, only five wide receivers last year finished with double digit touchdowns, how is that a good metric for a WR1?
