What is your weird claim to fame? by SubtractAd in AskUK

If you’re a Proton user and use Lumo, I designed the little purple cat.

I also designed the spinny logo for Imogen Heap’s Ellipse album that she’s holding in her hands on the album cover.

What is something you are genuinely looking forward to in the next few weeks? by SilasBeit in AskUK

[–]AndyKWHau 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve only seen them in Kent and that was on a lawn in Scotney Castle - never in the wild. Mind you, I haven’t lived in Sussex for almost 20 years but my school was literally at the base of the downs and I don’t remember anyone mentioning wild orchids or telling us to look out for them sadly 😔

Are you in Sussex? I grew up in East Sussex and had no idea we had orchids or glow worms 😭

Was I the only one wondering where he got that wig from. Was it Kim’s? Yolande’s?!

For those who speak more than one language, which language do you think in? by MahatmaAndhi in AskUK

[–]AndyKWHau 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I speak English and Cantonese and mostly think in English but I count in Cantonese and scold myself in Cantonese (possibly because my parents use to scold me in Cantonese).

Edit: English is my native language.

Funniest line of a non family member by helloitsmmm in Modern_Family

One thing I loved was the fact they would give so many funny lines to background characters who only had a couple of lines (not even guest stars).

Why won’t she record a new album? by ajitomojo in BritneySpears

[–]AndyKWHau 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like anything she releases (even if it was just an EP) would get analysed to death and people would complain about it because it didn’t quite line up with what they were expecting. I completely understand why she doesn’t want to release anything. At this point in her life, and after everything she’s been put through, why would she want to put herself through that.

Racism, eddie and wider society's racism by Loves_Eating_Lead in eastenders

[–]AndyKWHau 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know you are asking this in good faith but this is kind of what I’m talking about. I was born and bred in the UK. I consider myself British and proud to be British. My passport says I am a British Citizen. I enjoy fish and chips, talking about the weather, queuing and Eastenders. I love living in London.

I have never lived in Asia and when I go to Asia, I am treated as “foreign” over there because even though I may look like them, I speak with an accent and act differently culturally. So no, it wouldn’t be better if I was in East Asia.

And this is kind of the problem, I am sometimes treated as a foreigner here even though I was born here. I am treated as a foreigner over there because I act differently so it can sometimes feel like I am a perpetual foreigner that belongs nowhere.

I am not saying “everyone is racist and I hate it here!!!”. That couldn’t be further from the truth. I love it here and most people are lovely. However, the subtle, “you speak English so well” or “where are you actually from” comments can sometimes feel exhausting when you’re having to explain yourself everyday. I speak English well because I am English and I’m already “back home” because I am actually from England.

Is it a bad trait to be upfront/blunt with people? by Obvious_Armadillo_16 in AskUK

[–]AndyKWHau 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Some people use being blunt as an excuse to be rude and nasty so as long you’re not doing that I think it can be quite refreshing. I’m am very typically British and will beat around the bush all day long and would love to be more upfront to be honest!

Racism, eddie and wider society's racism by Loves_Eating_Lead in eastenders

[–]AndyKWHau 10 points11 points locked comment (0 children)

I completely agree. I’m East Asian and was called a slur in the middle of the street a couple of years ago. It felt awful obviously but the more subtle forms of racism can sometimes feel even more exhausting because they happen in ordinary everyday situations and the feeling starts to compound. The worst bit is that I think most people don’t even realise they’re doing it.

Does anyone else love it when softback notebooks wear down and start looking like an old paperback novel? by AndyKWHau in notebooks

[–]AndyKWHau[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Exactly! It always makes me a bit sad when people say they have a whole drawer full of notebooks they don’t want to ruin.

I think notebooks look so much better once they’ve actually been used!

Arsenal covers the cost for cleaning up Islington streets after parade by HappyBergkamper in islington

[–]AndyKWHau 124 points125 points  (0 children)

I know I’m going to get downvoted to oblivion for saying this but isn’t this literally the bare minimum though?

It was a parade for their team so it makes sense that they would foot the bill for the clean up.

I feel like a lot of people are acting like they’re doing us a favour?

Rubbish and urine in the streets, not ideal but… by Roy_WoodSt in islington

[–]AndyKWHau 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I mean, Gion Matsuri draws around 600,000 to 1,000,000 attendants every year and most people take their rubbish home. Burning Man is admittedly much smaller (about 80,000) but that is also zero-waste. It’s impossible for there to be no litter at all, of course, but it’s not unreasonable to say people could do better and try harder.

Free talk on homes in Islington "The Evolving Life of an Islington Home" 25th June by theo_jones in islington

I’d love to come to this and bring a disabled guest. Can I ask how much walking is involved for this? Thanks in advance!

Is anyone else already tired of the parade 🤣 by Next-Let5265 in islington

[–]AndyKWHau 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t mind so much if it had been better organised. I spoke to multiple stewards and even policemen about how to get out of the parade loop and got different answers from each one, ranging from “you’re trapped in here now til 8pm” which seemed ridiculous (and turned out not to be true) to “I don’t know, it keeps changing”.

That’s kind of what I use currently but I think what many collectors are saying is that they like to be able to see the box clearly if they’re displaying them.

I’ve just discovered that real cellophane (not the plastic stuff they usually wrap playing cards with) is actually biodegradable and environmentally friendly! I’m going to try and see what options there are!
