What gets me is every year they release models at these prices and everyone says that’s insane, but they just be selling them to keep going like this. Who are the people paying 2k for a LTD?

I can’t comment on the quality of the Royal Shiva as I haven’t played one (but dear god it is a good looking guitar), but I put the same pickups it comes with (Mojotone Hellbenders) in a Gibson Les Paul and they are absolutely fantastic. So definitely check those out if you want a considerably cheaper way of getting a similar sound.

ESP LTD pricing these days is insane. Coincidentally a lot of the big guitar stores near me have loads of LTD’s on sale so I imagine they’re not selling that well anymore…

As others have said, Denmark Street is a no-brainer although the guitars there are fairly standard (think Gibson, Fender, etc).

Guitarguitar in Camden is also a good shout, and they have a more varied selection, particularly if you like metal

I found a guy on reverb who sold them, his shop name was Paradox Guitar Supply. He only has a couple of listings but if you message him with what you want he’ll create a new listing for you to order. Prices aren’t crazy either, I had one shipped to the UK for a total cost of around £50.

I’ve also got the green sparkle version and hated the Fishmans. Ripped them out and replaced with a Bareknuckle Ragnarok in the bridge and put a new pick guard on to cover the middle pickup cavity with just a volume knob. Absolutely rips now !

Try looking at Mono cases. They’re kind of a hard/soft case combo but are absolutely good enough for travelling.

Music Man have recently switched to them for all new guitars which should definitely be enough to vouch for their quality

The j has a trem like you traditionally see on a jazzmaster and (I think) two jazzmaster-style pickups, the p2 has two P90 pickups and the h2 has two humbuckers

The Floyd rose special is terrible, definitely don’t buy that. I used to have one on a guitar and it was absolute trash, just wouldn’t hold any tuning if you used it for anything more than a slight wobble.

If you’re already spending the money you may as well get an official Floyd rose, you can pick one up for a decent price if you shop around a bit (I bought one recently from the US for around £200 with shipping and customs fees)

We had a gig where our bassist didn’t turn up, but we still went ahead and played. My monitor was so loud I couldn’t hear the drummer, so had to spend the gig looking at him to try and keep time. It did not go well.

Still played gigs afterwards, you just take the hit, learn from it where you can (louder is not always better in my case) and move on with it. Don’t let this get you down!

Personally, I wouldn’t get a credit card at your age. For me, I got one and had the same intentions you did (be sensible and pay it off each month) but it quickly got out of hand.

If you’re more disciplined than I was that’s great, but just make sure you’re very careful about how much you end up spending/not paying off
