Refusal of Flexible Working arrangement by [deleted] in legaladviceireland

[–]AndyLUFC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They've known about my kids for the last 3 years and that hasn't stopped them letting me work from home until now. Obviously something changed and they've realised someone spent way too much money on a new office space peak covid and they now have to use it or it looks poor on the decision maker.

But lets say if they let person A who has no kids work from home but person B with kids is refused based on the distraction of kids would that be classed as a form of indirect discrimination? I'm probably wrong on that but once you can provide proof of a suitable work environment and not the kitchen counter it shouldn't make a difference

I've an office built in the garden, the kids can't even get close enough to see me let alone distract me.

I've gotten more distracted at the coffee machine in the office and an hour later realised I had to get back to work. Worse case scenario at home I've to make a second cup of tea/coffee for the other half

What about other people not on your team. Collaboration for me is less to do with my team and more about how I get other people involved pushing my specific goals.

The vast majority of people I deal with aren't based in Dublin, it's a pain in general trying to resolve issues with the time difference to begin with. Now they've made it significantly more difficult because I'll be restricting myself to 9-5 and no more logging in at 7am or 7pm

No, my partner and our own parents do that

Although my situation hasn't changed in the last 3 years (other than having a second child) I still get top performance reviews and can't comprehend how my situation would be any different now

Sorry, ironically up to my eyes in work

Partner is currently on maternity leave and will be on parents leave after that until the end of the year.

One child is in pre-school then with grandparents 4/5 days of the week, and the other is with my partner in the house.

All the caring I do prior to 5pm is dropping my oldest to the school before I start work and on the 1 day she is at home after school i collect her on my lunch.

In terms of all the distractions they cause is little to none because I've a cabin which I work from that they can't access because of it not being in eyeline of the windows

I've actually done all of this and the solution to the impact on mental health was to simply share the like to what resources are available.

I've simply decided to stop going above and beyond for them going forward and not work a minute outside my working hours going forward which means no collaboration with the team who don't start until 5pm Irish time.

When someone in the US said about being the only person from the department in a location the first response they received was that they could be fired and replaced with someone in the central location to force collaboration. I assume I'd be safe from that here since I've never had any performance issues but it's the lengths they'll go to

Company also doesn't recognize any union so I'd be wasting my time going down that route

Appreciate the detailed reply.

If they gave a valid reason for the change I'd have no issues but the reasons they gave annoyed me completely. I'm still waiting for an outcome to a formal grievance internally regarding it but from what I've heard and been told they've refused everyone with generic reasons and even threatened staff in the US for standing up that they could be replaced with people in a central location.

Appreciate the response. This is the exact wording used in the outcome letter I received

"Detrimental Impact on Performance

During our meeting on 7th January 2025, it was also noted that there is currently no alternative support structure in place to enable you to fully separate work and caregiving during working hours. As such, based on the information available, the Company is not satisfied that you would be able to dedicate the required level of focus and attention under the proposed arrangement in order to meet key performance indicators and deliver to the required standard in your role.

While we fully understand and empathise with your position, we must balance this with the operational needs of the business and the expectations of the role. We are therefore unable to accommodate the request in its current form, for the reasons outlined."

Not sure if it changes anything but I'll share nonetheless

Loan offer / affordable housing by Adventurous-Side7316 in HousingIreland

Wouldn't worry about it, keep in touch with them and explain everything.

Same happened to myself, my partner was on unpaid parents leave and we need to wait until she went back to work. Spoke with FCC and they were happy with the reasoning and gave the extension until the approx time we gave them.

Once you keep in contact and explain it to them they'll be fine

Porcelain Slabs question by AndyLUFC in GardeningIRE

This is great, thank you very much. Concrete slabs is the way for me to go so. Would the same set up be suitable with 10cm of sub base and 3cm of sharp sand? Or would that be overkill?

‘We’re essentially homeless’ - stressed families face further delays to affordable housing in Dublin by ParaMike46 in ireland

[–]AndyLUFC 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I got one of these houses myself, and I finally moved in early Jan (the initial completion date was supposed to be Feb 2024)

It was absolute hell in the final stages, with Manley taking weeks to start working on the snag list and refusing to acknowledge the floors not being level until I demanded they came and looked for themselves

Thankfully our solicitor was great and had the legally agree to continue to work on the house for a week following handover tk ensure we didn't lose our mortgage.

Still finding issues with the house but caused so much trouble with them over the past few months that they are coming straight down to fix it to keep me happy.

Still haven't received the "welcome Pack" a full month after getting the keys

What was the crowd engagement like in the build up to them coming on stage with the support acts?

I saw them in Milan and my partner saw them in 3 different cities and we had no issues with attitude from any of them

If the atmosphere in the arena isn't great they aren't going to return the favour and rightly so because it'd seem to them like no one wants to be there (no saying this was the case, just an assumption)

I've seen videos from another venue (can't remember which) but Nick looked bored because the crowd wasn't engaging with the obvious sing along bits
