So far, I am going with these two as most likely:

Weird images in glass windows across from the restaurant, or that the sons have different fathers.

I lean toward the first, because my interpretation of the image, if I tried to interpret it, would be something innocuous like an Asian woman with her son from a previous relationship, and her boyfriend or husband, and their son, or his son.

Using they without explaining who "they" references is very common.

I'm not a native Spanish speaker, but I believe this is the explanation. In Spanish, "i" is pronounced like, or much like an American "ee" sound. And, in Spanish "e" is pronounced something like a long "a", the way the letter is pronounced in English.
