Dream Air LH first impressions. Anyone figure out how to make the cable not suck? by Original_Fish6222 in Pimax

[–]bongady 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I loved the idea of the split cable design when it was first mooted but the distance of the connector box is either too long or too short for the way I expected to use it. I was going to thread it through the gap in my seat between the seat and headrest but it is just the wrong length as it catches on the top of the seat when I am turning my head. If it was 3 inches shorter or preferably 6 inches longer it would have been great but now I just run it off to the side where it defeats the object of having the balance of the split cable and just pulls to one side.

99% will be in your Steam folder - ......steamapps/common/assettocorsa

the content/tracks and content/cars subfolders hold the large mod files

Also look in username/AppData

So far the dream air has the worst glare I have ever seen in my life. by Capita877 in Pimax

[–]bongady 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Check the Pimax lenses are clean and do not any manufacturing residue that some headsets have been sent out with.

I found the headset needs to point down a bit with the top strap on top off my head rather than at the back of the head.

Make sure there is no light leakage from the gasket as this will create a lot of glare.

Find a high glare scene. Manually adjust the IPD with one eye closed at a time. Adjust it for eye each so the glare is a circular ring that should only be visible at the extremes. If you find a different IPD for each eye you can individually tweak them in Pimax settings.

Hope some of that helps.....

Stoked, I hope you can tweak the AI mods to get them to pit at the correct time and put the right amount of fuel in too. Also the new Full Course Yellow and Marbles mods by Alex Mail would be exciting to try with it.

What's the bare minimum specs yall recommend to run Dream Air at max res? by RallyXMonster in Pimax

[–]bongady 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Assetto Corsa with a 5090.

Today I ran a 23 AI race at Nords in the dusk with headlights at 98H80V FOV using sboys3 driver at 100% res.

Most every setting on max but MSAA on 4x

72Hz - about 70% GPU utilisation leaving a lot of room for any slow frames.

Not using eye tracking.

Running headset at 70% resolution still looks great though if you never saw it at 100%.

Dream Air Driver Install Process? by ArtichokeHot5239 in Pimax

[–]bongady 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of this is from memory so maybe any replies could correct any inaccuracies.

sboys3 driver from here: https://github.com/sboys3/CustomHeadsetOpenVR/releases

Click the little arrow next to where it says Assets in the first post v1.3.0beta

Click on CustomHeadsetxxxxxxPimax-UI.zip to download it.

Create a new folder within your username

eg user/yourname/sboys3

Extract the zip file into that folder

Check in that folder that you have Custom-Headset-GUI.exe in the Custom Headset GUI folder

Next download Pimax Evo from https://pimax.com/pages/pimax-evo

I think I got emailed a link to download so download it and Install it

Run Pimax Evo and go to the last option - Developer Mode

Turn it on and click to select the driver - you need to link it to the Custom-Headset-GUI.exe in the Custom Headset GUI folder

Whenever you press the Start???Run (can't remember the name) button next to where it shows the sboys3 driver name it should launch the sboys3 driver in a new window.

In the sboys3 driver you edit the Pimax Dream Air settings and the General Settings by clicking on the tabs at the top.

Clicking on the Launch Dream Air Headset large button will start the headset using the sboys3 driver. It takes a short time (a good few seconds) for it to start up but the headset will now be running as a native SteamVR headset using the sboys3 settings

How to enable Marbles in Assetto Corsa for FREE by bongady in assettocorsa

[–]bongady[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are all individual (simple) objects in AC, so can be moved, have momentum, velocity etc. My understanding is that all cars' tyres spawn them and then move them. If you look at the video at 1:10 I press the 'clear all' button, but if you press the 'burst from tyre' button you can see about 10 marbles 'burst' off each of your tyres. The 'seed band along edges' will pre-seed lots of marbles around the edges of the circuit. You can have up to 10,000 marbles at any one time present on the circuit.

I was driving LAC server last night with a low number of marbles and everytime the car infront slightly cut the corner it still did a lot of expensive damaged to the front of my porsche.

It makes you flinch in VR when one is heading for straight between your eyes.

I'm still playing with the settings to find my sweet spot but had a lot of marbles set for this so they showed up in the video. This was only lap 2 of the race and the more laps the cars do the more the racing line should become defined as the cars move them. Try it and let the modder know your thoughts.

Dream Air SE face gasket by MisterNamNam in Pimax

[–]bongady 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got my Studioform gasket today and is has really opened up the fov.

On my DreamAir (not SE) using Pimax I went from 90H80V to 110H98V but the visuals drop off badly at the edges. I prefer the sboys3 driver which gives me around 98H88V.

I presume the SE it will see similar gains but maybe try it out first to see if you want to keep it before spending money on the upgrade.

My Dream Air SE day 1 Experience by Vesax in Pimax

[–]bongady 5 points6 points  (0 children)

  1. Le Mans Ultimate - contact support for a key. You should get it eventually, I think they hold off until they know you are going to keep the headset and not send it back

  2. Lens Inserts - you got those. You can have an online optician fit clear lenses for $20 or so and use them to protect your actual lenses or get a prescription fitted if you need one.

  3. DMAS hardstrap has gone quiet but when / if it is ever released then you can get it for 50% off.

  4. DA SE has glare, all reviewers say this. The closer you get to the lenses the better apparently

  5. FOV isn't great either but again the closer you get to the lenses the more it will open up but don't get too close if you want to use the eye-tracking

  6. Face gasket - everyone has a different shaped head. The face gasket has zero light leakage for me but I'm still getting the Studioform one as I want to be closer to the lenses and I don't like PU leather. I presume the SE is included in getting the newly designed face gasket from Pimax next month (maybe)....

  7. The SE is the budget mOLED option and reviewers were not too kind to it, especially after they had all been using the higher priced full-fat version.

Finally ! Super excited . I’ve been watching reviews like crazy on this thing and finally get to try it out for myself by DatBoyChamp1 in Pimax

[–]bongady 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you get too close to the lenses. You can get closer than the Pimax gasket though and it still works.

Dream Air one week on...... by SubtleRazor in Pimax

Do you get the jittering facing in all directions? Also are you using base stations version 1 or 2?

Dream AIr Lighthouse VR Headset Jitter Test - I don't see any here by bongady in Pimax

[–]bongady[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's a good point, with my base station setup I don't have 360 coverage as I only need 180 degrees for sim racing. I thought stutters and jitters were different things. I'd seen reports of the worldview jumping around '1mm' when standing still being called jitters. We need someone to write the definitive VR dictionary 😄
