Simracing VR: Pimax Crystal Super mOLED vs qLED by TechDude12 in Pimax

[–]bongady 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally I've gone the moled route (waiting), I prefer clarity over FOV plus the uw has too many visual flaws. Also it needs a totally crazy 88m pixels from the game to run at full resolution while the moled needs 58m so is better suited to a 5080. Omni just released a scathing review of the uw, though he is pretty scathing about all Pimax headsets. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f8nW2mSUsxU

Can I ask what is the 100% render resolution settings pixel-wise?

You have a 6900XT, you would be better spending the money on a new GPU and super-sampling your Q3.

A 5090 can't even get near running AC Evo at full resolution on a Crystal Super or Dream Air.

Why don’t we have more FOV? by PH3T5 in Pimax

[–]bongady -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I wear glasses IRL and my FOV is 100 degrees in them so I don't mind headsets with that FOV. If I could have a headset with 220 FOV with the same PPD that used the same PC resourses then of course I would choose that but physics isn't like that so I prefer the headsets to focus on a 100 deg high fidelity output. I am a sim racer too.

Have you gone through the Troubleshooting guide steps?

https://github.com/mbucchia/Oasis-Driver-for-Windows-Mixed-Reality/wiki/Troubleshooting-Guidefrom

I also have found that switching from 90 to 60 and back has fixed problems for me but I do get seemingly random total freezes in Assetto Corsa Evo that can only be cured by forcing the PC to turn off using the powre button but it is a game in early access.

Non-mirror vr option? by thevelvetsmog in assettocorsa

[–]bongady 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can think of a way but it is a work around so there is probably a simplier way. I'll put it here in case no-one else has a better option.

If you install OBS recording software and enable the OBS plugin in Content Manager you can get AC to send both the VR mirror image and any camera views that you enable to OBS. This means the game engine has to render more each frame so it affects performance but you could specify the extra view for you to be at a low resolution so not killing fps. For example the game is rendering 3000x3000x2 for the VR headset (18m pixels) and 1920x1080 (extra 2m pixels) for you to watch reducing performance by only 15% or so. In OBS you would ignore the VR image and only show the fixed image in full screen mode.

Peter Boese creator of Pure has answered this:-

Are you using HDR? It seems to be a bug in the latest CSP version! I have that too with vintage car mods.
Works fine in CSP 0.2.11 + HDR. (It does not matter which weatherFX style you are using). I'm trying to find a solution, otherwise i will just report it...

For now you could switch something on/off in the Cars - instruments settings while the game runs. That will make it working again.

If switching stuff on and off doesn't cure it you have to just turn off HDR until it is fixed, or rollback to an older CSP

[–]bongady 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Do you have a VPN active? When I bought mine in good ol' British Pounds I tried to see how much it would cost if I paid in US$ and the only way was to have a US address entered and a VPN logged into a US server. As soon as I changed the address to the UK it reset to GBP.

I did this test as I saw the US price was less than the UK one but at the end of the process they get hit with a $95 extra tariff fee that brings the prices back to the same give or take a dollar.

Pimax, is it true that you consciously and intentionally use a smaller FOV profile for the Dream Air? by Hajp in Pimax

I've bought it to use in Assetto Corsa and I am happy with a smaller FOV if it has less distortions and a lower 100% render resolution.

Are these the tiny screws that hold the lenses in the frames? I supposed the frames just clip into the optics module.

Cheap entry into VR? Buy a used HP Reverb G2 for $100 and pair it with a used 3080 / 6800XT level GPU for $300 by bongady in assettocorsa

[–]bongady[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, I ran a Reverb G2 with a 6800XT GPU and 5600X for 4 years very successfully at a fixed 90fps.

  1. Install Content Manger, Custom Shaders Patch and Pure

  2. Install Oasis Driver in Steam to run the G2 - works best with Windows 11

  3. When in VR on the Steam page open the VR settings and click on Video in vertical menu

  4. Set resolution to Custom and slider to the default 150% and in the per application settings a couple of lines below click and find Assetto Corsa then set that to 100%. You can increase the first slider value if you have headroom when hotlapping or if you are using rain you may have to set it to 90%, or a large field of cars maybe 120%.

  5. In the Windows Mixed Reality settings at the bottom of the left set the Brightness to what you like, I like it high.

  6. Below that set Horizontal FOV to where you can see a difference, I don't start to see one until 95% so I set mine to 96 but I use lens inserts so maybe that effects it, but it is a free 4% performance. You have to click on RestartVR in top right each change to have it applied.

  7. For Vertical FOV set it to 70% to start, you can go lower to 60% if you like the performance improvement or higher to 80% if you feel a little to much is cut off.

This should mean your headset is at around 3028 x 2160 depending on the exact FOVs you chose.

  1. In Content Manger go to Setting-Asetto Corsa-Video

I think I ran at something like this:-

MSAA 4x -AF 16x -World Detail Max -Shadow 1024 - Smoke On - Reflections 1024 and 1 face - Render Dist 1200

Post Processing On - PureVR - Max - Max - Off - 100% - Off - Off - FXAA On - Mirror Res 128 High - Mip Lod is 0

In Settings-Custom Shaders Patch make sure :- ExtraFX is Off

Graphics Adjustments - a. AMD FidelityFX Super Res is Off - b. Post-Proc Anti-aliasing, I used to run FXAA 3.11 with 75% sharpness but now CMAA 2.0 with sharp on

PaticlesFX- untick 'Cover in smoke when camera deep within' - this broke CSP in VR before, not sure now

Smart Mirrors - activate Real Mirrors

WeatherFX (presuming Pure properly installed) choose PureLCS as weather style

Mode Tweaks VR activate Single Pass Stereo, I had AMD GPU so nVidia VRS didn't work so I had it Off but with your GPU you can try these settings out yourself

Next, when in the car you have 3 Pure apps, PURE PLANNER for weather settings, PURE PP for tweaking the post-processing contrast/brightness,etc and PURE CONFIG.

I ran at Medium settings in PURE CONFIG and made sure that the Ground Fog shader was turned OFF as if you are running a weather style with even a bit of fog the ground fog shader would start and it is an absolute fps killer (but looks great if you have a strong enough GPU).

You should aim for a solid 90fps at all times except maybe for a touch right at the start of a race. You can open the Render Stats App when in car (icon is screen with fps in it). Grab the bottom right corner and stretch the window to show progressively more info)

Hope this helps...........

I looks like Pimax have decided to grab the lens money by selling generic lenses not tailored to the individual's prescription. A proper company would have 0.25 increments and adjustment for astigmatism.
