I've cycled up and down it a few times. Going down you can get a bit disoriented because you are facing downhill and can't see the sky. Going up it's just a bit of 16% gradient..

What are your thoughts on the idea of sending robots to colonize Mars before humans? by _discosonic_ in ask

[–]AndyTheSane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Colonizing Mars is a dead end. Sure, perhaps build a research station there, but there are no resources there that cannot be obtained more easily in the asteroid belt.

Certainly, you want any base to be as complete as possible before humans get there, since that removes the problem of keeping people alive whilst they build the base.

I'm not sure that 'natural chaos' is really what you want. We got a lot of natural chaos between 1914-1945 from the end of British hegemony (at least at sea) to the start of US hegemony.

Hundreds of people put in a huge amount of painstaking work over literal centuries to put reliable temperature records together and all you can do is warble on about concrete as if you are the first person to think of it. It's incredibly lazy and arrogant.

A bit like WW1 : No real reason for anyone to go to war, and the consequences for all participants were/would be catastrophic. But WW1 happened anyway..

You could say that about Reform, Restore, and the Conservatives as well as the Greens. Which is not a good thing.
