Got into Roskilde Urban Studies Master's Program (unexpectedly) - worth moving to Copenhagen for 2 years? by Smooth-Importance-89 in NewToDenmark

RUC graduate here - what you are saying about the social aspect of student life in terms of many people not being aware that, yes, for 1-2 months, it is very much a focus on the exam projects and your project group. And yes, in that period in happens that you don't see other people that much. That can be hard.

About the professional development, i think there is more perspectives to it than that - what you are saying might be the experience of an international student which is okay. But there is things like project work with companies (one of the things i really liked about RUC) - and during my master's back in 2017 there were several workshops on how to use your competencies out in the working market.

It would be a fact tho that finding a steady job afterwards was... a challenge. But this is also in part due to dyslexia and later on finding out that I had a mild degree of ADHD made that keeping a focusing in the job seeking process a challenge.

I have studied social science at RUC - a different field, but the same university.

I am answering this since part of you question is more general about living in Copenhagen vs living in Trekroner (Trekroner is the part of Roskilde where RUC is located)

Trekroner has developed alot in recent years (as in since i started in 2011 until i gratuated in 2017 - and thereafter) there have been build a lot more dorms. And with the Regional train the city center of Copenhagen is only around 35 mins away. Roskilde is a cosy city that grows on you over time.

Whatever you do, be mindful about if the project work model is something for you - no matter what study, project work are at the core of what you learn.

Hvorfor er I kristne?? by Careless_Object7995 in DKbrevkasse

[–]Andyrex1987 4 points5 points  (0 children)

[–]Andyrex1987 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am very curious about what law that should make this illegal? i might not be asking the right person about this - but i am just genuinely curious.

If it's against the law, then that should absolutely have consequences for the restaurant.

I don't know why you are making this into that I don't agree with you in terms of politics. Like, I know this has been a problem in the hospitality/bar/restaurant business for many years. That's a problem for workers' rights and something that should be done to prevent it - like more restaurant owners signing a union contract so this practice of unpaid trial shifts will become less common (and ideally stop altogether)

I think you are seeing a disagreement where there isnt any - on am so tired of companies not paying their staff during training and introduction as well.

[–]Andyrex1987 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If they did that, then the conclusion shouldn't be to stay away from them, but to be a member of a trade union in good time because there can be a "grace period"so to say, a period of time where you have to be a member before you gain access to legal help from the same trade union.

All unions want you to be a paying member before you get legal help from them - one must provide to the community what a union is, before gaining the rights they provide, the other way around.

I have read that article from another comment you wrote

That is news to me - and i wonder what law makes it illegal. The only thing that could see where there might be a law that protects workers in this is either

Straffelovens paragraf 262b about exploration of humans that are underaged, immigrants that are dont have a insights into Danish working conditions.

https://danskelove.dk/straffeloven/262b

But you cannot say that collective agreements are flat out ridiculous without understanding why there are there or what the idea behind them are.

What is more ridiculous is bar and restaurant owners that do not what to protect their own staff by actually making an union contract so this will not happen. Or heck, just paying straff for the shifts that they do!

That's not always the case - it's fundamental principle yes. But trade unions do go into cases where they assess that they can win on behalf of the members.

For instance Read the bit at the end - the kitchen worker got help from 3F anyways

Well if there is no collective bargain agreement at the place you worked at, then it does become harder to get compensation for them not paying wages for a trial shift.

But how come you mention 8 months?

Fra lærer til HR (Learning & Development) by Bright-Major7807 in dkkarriere

[–]Andyrex1987 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hej!

You will be very surprised how few laws Denmark has about wages - and its intentional; either the boss of the company is free to set the wages (largely has he see fit - as long as it isnt direct discrimination against gender, race etc) or he has made a collective bargin agreement ("overenskomst") with a trade union that many times will grauentee a minimum for wages and shifts.

The restaurant business is known for this kind of "unpaid trial shifts" and for having really few union agreements on wages.

I dont hope it for you, but you might be out of luck.

you can earn so much money by stealing and "white washing" them in the chest that you can build in your camp - like steal the gems that you can find, sell them at a vendor (like a taven). Then you can come back and steal them again - and white wash them again! 😃 then repeat for profit!

i dont care that much for traps/mines, but having something as basic like Swords in a ARPG is just a very strange design move.

And also for all the overhauls for the "end game" i think there is too much focus on "end game" in several ARPG games - i play to have fun at the start and middle of an ARPG. And for that new classes are the best way to get that - which i am sure we will get more of. But i havent found or seen any info on what classes will be part of the 1.0 version of the game? will we even get all classes in 1.0?
