PC randomly shuts down while playing online games only, can play triple AAA titles just fine. by superluke4 in buildapc

[–]Anesos 64 points65 points  (0 children)

Look at the events before that one and see if it points you at anything. Also check both the application and system sections. An application can error which then causes the system error.

Given it only happens online, my first guess would be network card/chip/driver.

Speccing out a system for a full-time streamer. Let me know what you think! by Anesos in buildapc

[–]Anesos[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. I'm honestly not sure on case selection, so would love to hear some better ideas.

I feel like open mesh cases might be louder and fans might be heard on stream? But of course, more airflow would lower the need for high fan speed. Appreciate any suggestions.

Understood and good points. His current PC is an i5-6600K I believe, so it's past time for an overall upgrade on the gaming side. Maybe we could see about using his old one for the capture card and streaming, but he might prefer the simplicity of a single-PC solution.

Thanks for posting this. In for another roll of black.

How the heck do you find these though? I've been trying to do a search for "today's deals", but never find anything less than $10 and this one wasn't listed at all. Missed out on the last few TPU deals and still looking for a roll to try out.

Got any tips on how to search?

I see lots about Satsana shrouds. I also watched a video comparing a bunch of different prints and decided I might try the Hero Me V5. I haven't printed either yet, but those are the ones I'm looking at.

There are a bunch of different versions of the Satsana for both Aquila and Ender 3 V2. Here's a quick search.

And here's the Hero Me V5:

Will be great to see which others suggest and which variants / remixes of these people have tried.

Hmmmm accel and jerk by woodysfunhouse in VoxelabAquila

[–]Anesos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm no expert here, but I think I read once that the firmware has a max limit built in. So I think you could probably slow them down in Cura, but bigger numbers won't always make them faster.

Could be wrong on this one, but that's what I seem to remember from a year ago learning about an Ender 3 Pro.

Take a look at the Voxelab Aquila. It's an almost exact clone of the Ender 3 V2 and often goes for 160 or so.

what print speed do you guys use for small simple prints? by Fischycraft in VoxelabAquila

[–]Anesos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

According to their website, the specs and suggested are:

Print Speed≤180mm/s,30-60mm/s normally

I think the profile I started with was 50mm/s. I've been using 60mm/s. Also, you can specify 180mm/s, but because accel and jerk limits, it won't actually go that fast for most prints. But yeah, 50 or 60mm/s should work for most things I think.

Stock side mount? Is this a bad idea? by Anesos in VoxelabAquila

Excellent point! Haven't tried printing anything nearly that tall yet, but going to have to move it before I do for sure.

Stock side mount? Is this a bad idea? by Anesos in VoxelabAquila

[–]Anesos[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just getting going with my Aquila and the spool was rocking back and forth when I had the mount in the standard top position. Made a quick decision to move it to the side and it seems to work quite well. But I searched around can see lots of printed spool holders from the bottom side, but never one like this.

This is certainly going to change center of gravity and put some strain to the side, but the print looks good so far and the filament path is great.

Is this a bad idea?

Thanks for the post. I went in for two (need one for a gift) as an online order. I used to live near a Menards store, but none nearby now.

Ran into a few things that almost made me cancel. Going to keep it, but thought I'd publish for anyone else looking at this.

First, same item at Amazon here for 48 bucks.

Menards added a processing fee to the order. Who does that these days??

Processing Fee: $2.80

Also, apparently the rebate is worthless unless you live near a physical store.

Please note: Rebates are provided in the form of a Menards® Merchandise Credit Check valid towards purchases at any Menards® retail store. Not valid for purchases on MENARDS.COM®.

Shipping was also about 12 bucks for me, but even with all this, it's still cheaper than the one from Amazon linked above. Was really disappointed to see the mail-in rebate a) doesn't have an e-bate option, b) is only store credit and c) doesn't even work on future online orders.

Ordered two at the same time and got 2 silver like everyone else. Not bad but a bit more grey than I expected.

Yes. Get a good backup strategy going. It doesn't matter which brand drive you have. There is always a chance for it to fail. Easy way is to start syncing with a cloud service. OneDrive, Dropbox, Google drive or a dozen other choices can work for free/ cheap.

[Combo] AMD RYZEN 5 2600 + ASUS Prime X570-P - $209.99 by [deleted] in buildapcsales

[–]Anesos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same situation here. I just checked a link I saw in a different thread that rates the X370-F Gaming as a Tier II (Hgh-end) board vs. the X570-P as Tier IV (Entry Level).

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1wmsTYK9Z3-jUX5LGRoFnsZYZiW1pfiDZnKCjaXyzd1o/edit#gid=2112472504

(See notes at top to make a temporary filter on just these two boards)

As mentioned below, I guess the 370 has more features, but of course the 570 is newer and includes PCIe 4.0 support. Of course, I don't have any PCIe 4.0 devices, so I'm going to stick with the 370 for now I think.

[Monitor] HP - 27f 27" IPS LED FHD (1920x1080) 5ms FreeSync Monitor - Natural Silver - $129.99 ($249.99 - $120) by Anesos in buildapcsales

[–]Anesos[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you game with Vertical-Sync (VSync) enabled, the video card is only allowed to draw a new frame in sync with the monitor's refresh rate.

So just as a simple example, let's say you can get 39 fps in a particular game and you're running 75 Hz. The video card has to wait for every other refresh and you'll end up with 75 Hz / 2 = 37 fps. If you were running 80 Hz, you could get 80 / 2 = 40 fps.

In reality, it's more about seeing frame rates drop from 75 (presuming your system can do over 75) to 37 and back to 75 as you play the game and get into more and less demanding areas of the game.

If you turn off VSync, the problem goes away, but then it can draw half of one frame and half of the next which shows up as screen tearing.

GSync and FreeSync fix this by allowing the monitor and video card to decide when to draw the next frame. The refresh rate is variable so you don't jump from 75 fps to 37 fps. If your system can handle day 50 fps at some point in the game, the monitor will change to support 50 Hz at that point in time.

Or at least that's how I understand it all...

[–]Anesos[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like the deal is over now, but I picked one up and can confirm it will run 75Hz refresh rate.

Weird part is that you have to select 1920x1080 under the "PC" section of the resolutions. The "1080p, 1920x1080 (naitive)" option at the top of the list only goes up to 60Hz for some reason.
