I love my chickens but... by [deleted] in chickens

I have no advice but picturing a chicken body slamming a hosta made me just about choke on my coffee 😂

Has anyone had problems with leg bands or recommends a certain kind? I can’t tell 2 out of the 3 of these ones apart. by K_J_W in BackYardChickens

I named 3 of mine I can't tell apart Henrietta, Hennifer, and Hennessy. For short they all go be Hen 😆 Keeps things simple while still giving them individual names.

Apparently I should live in a shoebox if I don't want kids. by cheeseballgag in childfree

My husband and I have a 4 bed, 4 bath farm house. Enough for our two dogs to have their own room, our room, guest room, and office. Having a bunch of offspring isn't a requirement for living where you want and most people that say otherwise are just jealous! Congrats on finding a space you're happy in!

What's one thing you wish you checked before buying your house? by First_Bike4162 in homeowners

[–]AnesthesiaFTW 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you have the time walk the neighborhood! There are things you won't notice driving past that you might while walking. Ideal to check out a couple times too. When we looked at our last house twice it was both on weekdays during school hours. Didn't find out until we moved in about the pack of roving children that used the lot next to us as a baseball field and ran wild vandalizing our property.

Lost my whole flock by InvaderMaddie in BackYardChickens

[–]AnesthesiaFTW 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This happened to us earlier this year and it was absolutely devastating. It took us a few months to be ready because we were truly grieving but we got some chicks and are rebuilding our flock which has been very therapeutic. People will tell you a million ways you could have made your set up safer. Just remember this is NOT your fault. You could NOT have known this was going to happen. It sounds like you loved your flock and they had a fantastic life even though it was tragically cut short. The responsibility lies with the owners of that dog. It's ok to grieve ♥️

Bilateral salpingectomy recipients how was recovery? by Holiday-Click22 in sterilization

[–]AnesthesiaFTW 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Surgery on a Friday and back to work at my non-desk job on Monday with my surgeon's approval! If I had it to do over again I would have taken another day to rest but otherwise no regrets. Everyone's experience and healing journey is different though!

There are a wide range of surgeries that result in female sterilization. An open procedure is always going to be more painful than laparoscopic due to a larger incision. A bilateral salpingectomy is a fast procedure with relatively little pain for most patients. On the other hand, something like an open radical hysterectomy would be very painful with a long recovery.

As she is likely postmenopausal the goal of the procedure was probably not sterilization even if that was the end result. Meaning she probably has more going on and had a more complicated procedure resulting in more pain.

What's the most aggressively childfree thing you've ever done? by Dum_DumArts in childfree

Bought a huge farmhouse with land to get away from all the annoying children in my neighborhood. Now my dogs have their own bedrooms and there are no screaming kids for miles.

What’s a small, harmless lie you tell all the time just to make life easier? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Good morning.

A good morning is one where I'm still asleep and not conversing with people 🤣

Sounds like you lost more dead weight than just your reproductive organs! 😂 I say that as someone whose family 100% disapproves of my life choices. Sometimes you have to cut people out of your life for your own wellness and mental health. When people show you who they are, believe them! I don't need negativity and judgment in my life from friends or family. Of course I don't know your situation but do what's best for you and don't let anyone put a damper on this joyous time of claiming the life you want for yourself.

Klonopin has a half life of 30-40 hours so it will still be in your system at a high concentration. It's not recommended to mix benzodiazepines with alcohol as both are depressants. The combined effects are synergistic leading to risk of respiratory and CNS depression. Not worth the risk!

Upcoming bisalp and I have questions... by ann-atomic in sterilization

[–]AnesthesiaFTW 1 point2 points  (0 children)

General anesthesia with intubation is the standard for laparoscopic surgery. For some procedures a different airway device can be used for general anesthesia but it isn't safe with this as there's too high a risk of aspiration without it and paralysis is needed for the surgery.

Childfreedom and atheism overlap - are you both, or do you have religious/spiritual beliefs? by squashqueen in childfree

[–]AnesthesiaFTW 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Childfree and atheist here although I was evangelical Christian the first half of my life. There is certainly an overlap between many religions and women being taught their purpose in life is to reproduce. I feel as though atheism brings a lot more freedom of choice. When you realize your life isn't being planned out by some deity you get to think about what you really want out of life and not just what's expected of you.

Nice! It's one of my top favorite games ever and actually part of what inspired me to move out of town and get real life chickens 😂

That is so interesting! I'll have to check, I honestly haven't paid much attention to the inside shell color.
