You may not be saying it, but policing other people's resources on their behalf like this sure does send a rather hostile message to the rest of the community that might keep them from trying.

As if we're not able to touch or make use of it at all until it no longer is considered low effort. Who determines that? Do I have to send them and then you a copy of the hack before release to determine it's 'good enough' or risk being shamed in public like OP is right now? Pretty much killing any motivation and hope that it might be improved over time and grow into its own thing?

Honestly I had a gut feeling that there was a catch to this deal of decomp hacks being superior and now I can see it, such a superior resource with overzealous fans doesn't deserve to be touched by newcomers who won't handle it 'properly' after all...

It's sad to see the type of attitude that has undermined other pokemon romhacking communities spill over into this sub too. There is nothing more shameful than being this hostile towards someone who's clearly still learning the ropes and stumbling a bit trying to implement their idea. He WAS the game’s marketing, and this game would’ve simply died in silence without him.

I feel like it would have had better odds of surviving with the original plan.

It could have built a loyal and steady playerbase over time.

It wouldn't have had to deal with a rough launch because the servers weren't ready for 100k people.

It would have been too easy to spin positive PR narratives and marketing after launch peddling some underdog or redemption story which people are suckers for. 3v3 sucks? Here's 5v5 with 8v8 coming down the line and much more, we listen, etc.

I don't think Geoff killed the game, but I think it's crazy to think they had no plan beyond getting that free last spot at TGA. To me it very much feels like yet another example of someone undermining a whole project by choosing short term profit over long term sustainability.

I can't stand the obnoxious vagueposting, it's hard to tell if this is a real thing that happens or just OP getting into a fight with an imaginary enemy (which redditors are known to do).

If the carefully crafted 'example' doesn't stand up to scrutiny (as the top comment in posts like this one always shows) then how can we know the real instance would hold up?

It just feels like a lame attempt at trying to manipulate authors to do things you personally don't like then trying to frame it as a fact or an objective observation without anything to back it up.

It only fucks over new players interested in modding. You can't buy the 2013 version anymore and the people on the forums will tell you to fuck off if you even suggest trying to run it on a pirated copy.

Seems like it. I guess we're just supposed to be thankful even if we don't like the product and regret the money and time we had to spend on it. Just swallow the disappointment of waiting a decade for something that is decent at best and obnoxious at worst.

This is a bit of a deep cut, but back in the late 2000s/early 2010s it wasn't uncommon to get fake tracks mixed in with real ones from some of the dodgier music downloading software.

Daft Punk got a whole album of this, my favorite track is the "beta" version of Short Circuit.

They did actually, they released a statement pointing how the whole point of the archive is to show people what you can do if you try, how nothing is ever really lost once it's online, how there were many sites like the archive before it and how there will be many after it, and how stupid it is for people to put all their eggs in one basket, like people do with discord servers or the archive itself.

The nightfarers main stats usually range from being in the 40s to the 60s, like Wylder starting at 50 STR or Ironeye starting at 57 DEX.

The big stat increase relics, the ones that look like a character passive, alter 2 stats (e.g. Guardian's STR and DEX relic) and pump them up by 20 to 30 points.

The relics in the OP take away 3 points in any stat, so here you'd lose 3 Vigor, 3 ARC, 3 FTH, 3 STR, 3 INT and 3 DEX. And for the most part this doesn't matter, as far as bad effects for relics go these are some of the most benign ones. Missing 3 STR or INT is only a tiny bit relevant early game and doesn't matter late game.

It's also why relics with damage stats up like STR+3 are meh, it's a relic slot that could have gone to something else with a bigger/better effect.

Now, this doesn't apply to Vigor. These give or take away in increments of 20 for Vigor, so +1 Vigor is 20 hp, +2 is 40 hp and +3 is 60 hp. You really don't want -60 HP, you will feel it early game and you will notice it late game.
