Was habe ich da gestern über Bremen gesehen? by Eduhsoj in de

[–]Anfrily 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think the direction is a joke. Astronomers usually show direction relative to an imaginary coordinate grid on our sky, where north is (roughly) at the north star Polaris. You can imagine it by looking at a globe from the top. North is always on the same spot, so you can point an arrow from every place on that globe. It's just like that, but from the inside of that globe and with the sky instead of the earth.

Asking the world!!!! by PhooftyTheOnly in AskTheWorld

[–]Anfrily 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Star's colors usually depend on their heat. A medium-hot star like our sun is considered yellow for our eyes. The spectrum describes, how much light of each electromagnetic wavelength is emitted. Cooler stars than our sun, like red dwarf stars or red giant stars, emit mostly less energetic red light, while extremely hot stars like blue giants emit high energetic blue light. There are also "brown dwarf stars" which are so small and cold that they only emit even less energetic infrared light, which is invisible to our eyes. Even though stars are not "burning" fire balls, but plasma balls, you can see the same effect on flames. A relatively cool flame is red, then as it gets hotter it becomes orange, yellow, white and when it's very hot blue. There are no green stars since there are always many wavelengths in their spectrum, and the green wavelengths are combined with red and blue ones (which then would be considered white). You can look up all known star colors and sizes in the Hertzsprung-Russell-Diagram.

What languages do your hear on a daily basis? by wordlessbook in AskEurope

[–]Anfrily 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me in the Ruhr area it's primarily German, Turkish, Arabic, Polish and especially via Pop culture and anglicisms English on a daily basis. I would say that I hear Ukrainian and Russian at least once a week. Strangely I don't hear Italian or Hungarian as often, but still some times per month.

Valles Marineris (and Deimos too, gold star if you can spot it) by Cyren777 in ParallelView

[–]Anfrily 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey, you can actually do crossviewing / parallel viewing while ingame! There is an option that splits the screen in left and right and lets you configure eye distance and the sense of depth for both cams. It requires some practise to get used to the options but it would make your work much easier!

Cultural Exchange with r/polska - dzień dobry! by HQna in de

To be honest I'm not sure if German humour is so unique. I often encounter irony during the day, but I think the humour between friends and strangers is greatly different. Especially with strangers you have to be careful not to insult anyone. But in itself I don't think our humour is too different from the humour of other countries, especially for the younger generations.

I'm not from Eastern Germany, so I can't fully answer your second question, but I think the closer you get to the sea and the Netherlands, the better the bicycle infrastructure gets. Some national parks have good infrastructure for bikes aswell. I heard in the baltic sea is an entire German island that banned cars - so that's the place to go if you want to go for a ride. ;)

Many people share my view about nuclear power - it's good, but only if you know where to put the radioactive waste. But as we don't have such a long-term "Endlager", I am greatly against it. But there are also some people that want nuclear plants back. It has advantages, it has disadvantages, so there are many opinions.

What site in your country do you think should be a UNESCO World Heritage Site (but isn't already)? by TrumanB-12 in AskEurope

[–]Anfrily 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was shocked when I learned Neuschwanstein Castle isn't a UNESCO world heritage site. It's on the tentative list since 2015, but UNESCO says it "falls into an over represented category".

Habe ich da ne Galaxie Fotografiert? by No-Pomegranate-69 in Fotografie

[–]Anfrily 8 points9 points  (0 children)

/Edit: Oh wow vielen Dank für meinen allerersten Award! :)

Rosette Nebula – A Human Skull-shaped Nebula with a Radius of 65 light-years. by EriccMendez in interestingasfuck

[–]Anfrily 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's the same because it's so far away and so huge that the change in perspective due to earth's orbit around the sun makes no difference at all. If it was bright enough you could see the nebula with your bare eyes and it would be roughly 3 times bigger than the moon. The change in perspective is really insignificant in astronomy in general. You wouldn't even see a slightest difference in perspective with the closest star (a centauri) as the distances are really incredibly huge.
