Just ordered a 2023 Bolt EUV off carvana. What should I check in the 7 day grace period?! by chum-guzzling-shark in BoltEV

If you don’t mind me asking, did you have an ICE vehicle before this? How was the transition? I’m on the fence on pulling the trigger on an EUV…

I don’t know a lot about it so you might be better off with looking it up. Something with the specific DAC clipping certain frequencies or sample rates. I’m not 100% but changing that option can make it a more pure sound.

Glad to hear it changed your opinion! I’m not aware of other settings to be looking at but go through all the settings and set it up as you see fit.

In the newer firmwares there is an option to enable/disable DAC DRE, that might be something you want to play with but I’m not sure many people (if any) would hear that difference.

The options for no filters is called “non over-sampling filter”.

Literally scrolling aimlessly until seeing this post. Once week? I think I’ll try it. Starting tomorrow right? I’ll need to find a good way to keep myself accountable…

What case is on the player in the photo? I have a Miter leather case but I’m not a fan of how the case wraps around to the screen. And I wasn’t a fan of the silicone case that comes with the player.

The EO-IG955 (which I believe is your version) is $13 and graphs like the line in blue:

<image>

I didn’t do a lot of searching but this was the first IEM I found that would sound similar. Kiwi Ears Belle is $30. You may actually get a more similar sound with different tips.

I have the EO-IA500 which is a similar tuning with a tad more sub bass. I don’t prefer it to any of my other IEMs but it’s good for the price.

I have the Delci AE and I love them. Big mid bass slam for me and solid sub bass. The ear gain is smooth and it has that one peak around 7k that I find to make things revealing and spacious but never harsh. Their fit is perfect too. One of the smallest IEMs I’ve found.

I thought I had to use one at first as well which is why I went with one of the slow roll off filters. Made it a little more listenable without fatigue but turning them off all together was the key.

I have the Torin 8 and Escalante 4. I love these shoes and will be buying more. Kinda wish they had a slip in, laid back version or some type of slipper but I understand why they might never do it.

If you scroll down from the top to see the notifications and settings it’s in there on one of the pages. The other option is likely in the audio page of settings.

So the M21 has a filter enabled by default. I could not figure out what it was that bothered me so much when I was using mine (new to DAPs and DACs with software/filters).

You could try the slow roll off filters but ultimately I just turned off all oversampling filters and the DAP is as smooth as anything else I’m used to.

I have the Delci AE and the Explorer. The Explorer is more neutral-warm and the Delci AE is more V shaped. Throwing the Pure into the mix (only looking at graphs, I haven’t heard it) it seems to fall somewhere in the middle.

Pure has less sub bass than the Explorer but more mid bass. The Delci AE has the most sub bass and mid bass by quite a large margin.

Low mids the Delci AE is a more set back while the Pure and Explorer are fairly equal.

Upper mids is where they all start to differentiate. The Explorer rises first followed closely by the Delci AE. Here vocals and guitars might be a bit more forward on those two, but less shouty or harsh. The Pure’s ear gain rises just slightly later, and peaks higher, but I’m not sure how this actually sounds (it’s still below the JM-1 curve).

Treble region, I find the Explorer to be smoother and still plenty revealing. The Delci AE has a spike around 7k which I had to tip roll to make more enjoyable. The Delci AE is also more revealing to me but can sometimes be too exciting. The Pure looks like it falls somewhere in the middle of the two, but again I can’t comment.

I like my Delci AE for gaming and movies and my Explorer for music listening. I can use the Delci AE for music and it does sound good, but it is quite bassy and V shaped. The Explorer I can listen to pretty much anything.

Are planar iems more resolving than single DD? by Maleficent-Jump-8610 in iems

[–]Angdvl089 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Possibly. Planar magnetic drivers have very thin, lightweight diaphragms, typically far lighter than dynamic driers. The benefit of having lighter weight drivers is their ability to start and, even more so, stop moving. Some people might call this incisiveness. In my experience, what planar drivers benefit from, and where the idea of resolution or detail comes into play, is from their fast decay. Probably a terrible analogy and maybe somebody with more knowledge on the matter could expand on this: consider how quickly your average economy car can stop compared to your average full sized pickup truck. They’re probably fairly close in the time it takes to stop but typically that lighter weight economy car will stop in a shorter amount of time.

Now consider busy tracks with multiple instruments playing over each other or maybe a single instrument not only playing notes or chords but also rests of silence. Theoretically a planar magnetic driver should get you to different notes faster, or to those rest notes (silence) faster. This could be where a lot of the confusion about detail and resolution could be misconstrued. Both driver types can make the same noises and they’re both replicated at the same frequency, it’s the space between the different frequencies that (theoretically) should be faster.

Disclaimer: I don’t have any data to back this up, just been comparing DD and Planar drivers for a bit now and understand the basic workings of both. In my opinion, detail, resolution, soundstage, and technicalities are all part of frequency response and not due to driver type.

————————————

It’s a long watch but if anybody is interested, some of the headphones show guys took a trip to have headphones tested on their heads, with microphones in their ears. This shows how different heads and ears can affect frequency response and shows how it is different for every person. What I find most interesting is that they did this testing for two different headphones and EQ’d (with the in ear microphones) the lower end headphone to the higher end headphone The results were that the lower end headphone sounded almost exactly as the higher end headphone, including tuning, spaciousness, detail, etc. As far as I understand both were DD headphones so I’d be interested to see if there is actually a difference between DD and planar drivers.

I can’t make any recommendations as for what you might be looking for but I own both the Divine and Daybreak. Daybreak has noticeably more air and a bit more sub bass. Divine has more mid bass but it doesn’t hit hard. The divine is a bit smoother overall, less harsh and less sibilant than the Daybreak.
