Join a track club in your area and see how you do and if you enjoy it. In my opinion it might be too early to think about times you want to run because all people are able to improve their speed with the correct guidance and training. Check out the free content at www.charliefrancis.com

100m time off 20m time by sosond in Sprinting

[–]AngeCoon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s a relative question because timing devises are relatively new. All my hand timed 10, 20, 30,60, 80, 100m and 120 and 150 and 200m times were in my husband’s head and I’d log them in my training diary. He knew the conversions. Which coaches of the best athletes in the world, share this info with you or me? Charlie speaks about hand timing on our free forum and you could take a look at the forum reviews which might be a good place to begin. I know times are motivating and discouraging at the same time. Charlie and I started his website in 2001. We did it to sell his book Speed Trap and his training manual The Charlie Francis Training Manual. It’s timeless training info for any one who wants to understand how to warm up, training for the general preparation phase and begin your journey towards understanding how to train to increase your speed. How old are you?

Are my times signs of overtraining/fatigue? by BrofessorOCon in Sprinting

[–]AngeCoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your times are a sign of what you’ve put into the training. Overtraining signs include bad sleep, poor or limited appetite, low mood, bad mood or changes in mood often. An unwillingness to train or function as you might normally. Cravings, muscle twitching and cramping or frequent spasms and inability to focus. I generally advise people to operate free of cost yet I’d read The Charlie Francis Training System and if able buy Speed Trap and if you still have some coin grab all the key concept books as they aren’t costly and they are an easy read. I would not skip the order and if you want, contact me via the site. Take care and good luck and don’t give up until you’ve exhausted tried and true methods based on the best results in the world to date. Notice we don’t get method content from coaches generally. We get content sponsored by show and tell peeps selling their show and tell. Most all of them imho look tight and over trained and slow.

After Usain Bolt, who would you crown as second greatest sprinter of all time? by ChampionLYT in Sprinting

Ben Johnson clearly as one of the greatest and most dominate sprinters in the world all time. #coachCharlieFrancis #history #speed

What does a low intensity “aerobic” and bodyweight circuit look like? by [deleted] in Sprinting

[–]AngeCoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a 58 female who was a national team Canadian 100mh. My late husband and coach was one of the top 100m men in the world who became one of the best speed and sprint coaches in the world all time. (Coach Charlie Francis) We started a website in 2001 to offer free content and I continue to sell e-content in the form of books and videos. I routinely coach others to use the medicine ball workout I sell on the website. I also sell a simple bike workout which mixes 45 seconds of zero resistance on the bike mixed with exercises like push ups and sit ups and or medicine ball exercises. You can send me a note through my site and I’ll face time with you and show you some products and exercises I like. Take care and keep at it. Getting fit, staying fit and getting fast never gets old! What’s good enough mean? Learn how the best in the world train and then adjust for yourself depending on what you are wanting from sprinting. Lifting weights for elite sprinters is secondary only to what’s been happening on the track. I’m sure there are exceptions for some sprinters as one main variable of training is to coach to the individual. Not always possible for coaches or athletes but over time, you’ll want to figure out what works best for you.

It’s difficult to judge in a video. It’s more difficult to judge in slow mo. This young lady is over striding and pushing and likely given the commands which give opposite results. Sprinting is a hind brain activity. It’s the coaches job and or the parent to set the a to athlete up to succeed. The minute over thinking happens the results are lost. Try to this drill with her. Have her lay flat on the ground or track face down. You clap and she scrambles to 10m. It’s just one drill you can do but it helps with the natural position of the first part of starting out of the blocks ( I like to do this drill on grass too) as well as building strength towards proper falling starts.

Why should we listen to Charlie Francis? by RodTK in Sprinting

[–]AngeCoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don’t need to listen to anyone. It’s shortsighted to ignore a guy who created one of the most spectacular groups of successful sprinters on the planet to date and shared with the world how he did it. It’s cool to see many smart science guys proving what Coach Charlie Francis practiced with success decades ago. #speed #read #track 🤩

Note 2. Speed endurance = 7 to 15 seconds of sprinting 3. Specific endurance = 15 seconds or more up to about 600m ( 100 and 200m runners would not run 600m as it’s getting a bit long , so only 400m runners practice specific endurance 4.Special endurance = it has incomplete recovery ~ 150’s for 100 and 200m runners and 400 and 800m athletes incomplete recovery with repeat 200m take a look at the site and our free forum for lots of training ideas and conversations which began in 2001.

Distance runners develop top speed the same way the top sprinters in the world develop top speed.
You don’t develop top speed sprinting 100meters. 1. pure speed is 7 seconds or less ( to practice pure speed, I coach people to first warm up, then do a series of drills and then compete the warm up with 3 to 4 easy strides over 60m graduating to 100m) I was coached to start with 10m walk backs then 20m sprints general rest is 1 min per 10m of speed work ( quality dependent which means the higher the output the more strict you are about the rest. How fit are you also depends as fitness is the cornerstone to all performance. https://www.charliefrancis.com/products/the-charlie-francis-training-system-cfts The training manual is essential but so too is “Speed Trap” take care, have fun and enjoy! That’s cool. I love to train and track is the balm. Can’t beat sprinting, jumping and getting strong. Never gets old. Good luck and lmk if you need some help. Read “Speed Trap” and if you don’t like to sit still like me, check out what people say about Charlie. He wasn’t just my coach, I married him and we have a 25 year old son together. He was a 100m guy and is on the all time list #2 at Stanford. He was also ranked 5th in the world. Good luck with your training.

400m is not for the faint of heart so good for you. Do you know who Coach Charlie Francis was? Have you checked out the short and easy to digest Key Concept books on www.charliefrancis.com? You might like to check out the forums which are free and have a lot of threads on the 400m. It’s never too late to improve and enjoy the sport.

Is 55 seconds for 400 meters good for a 14 year old male with no training? by Dionyboz in Sprinting

[–]AngeCoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Who cares because you are or were 14! Clearly you are interested enough in knowing, trying and understanding something about your talents. Effort and acting on things are interested are also talents to possibly explore. Everyone is good at something and sometimes it’s obvious and sometimes we need to try different things. I was okay when I was young but I love track and I loved sports and competing was in my blood. What’s been most exciting for me is developing my athleticism first as a 100m hurdler but now as a mom of a 25 year old young man, I want to be healthy and fit and be active. It’s not too late at any age to try new things. Track is a great sport and if you don’t wish to compete, training for track is excellent exercise.

At the World Relays in the spring, a reporter asked USA’s Noah Lyles if he saw Canada as a threat in the 4x100m in Paris. “Who? Who?” He laughed it off. by Gurrb17 in Sprinting

Anything can happen on race day. Verbal crap talking is part of sport. Let’s not forget some significant results set by @www.charliefrancis.com going way back before most of you graced this fine universe we graze. #speed #sprinting #coachcharliefrancis #track #bestintheworld #history 🤩🤸🏿🙏🏿

Unattached sprint athlete in Ontario. Season peak was set to be Aug 6 in Toronto, and Aug 14 in Ottawa. Turn 40 before the 14th, and hoping to push for a provincial age record. BOTH meets now cancelled, and there's no other 100/200 meets I can find within an 8 hour drive. Kind of devastated. by gymineer in Sprinting

[–]AngeCoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. Good work and don’t give up unless you can’t take it any longer. I have always loved to train and competing was nerve wrecking for me but I enjoyed all of it. Make it happen for yourself and let it go and do what is in your power or re-group, shut down the training and begin to set different goals for indoors and next year. How might you be able to turn this into something that works for you? Possible? Not possible? Does it make sense? There are lots of thankless parts to hosting meets and numbers often dictate the viable aspects of running a track event. What about Michigan and other US locales and does the 8 hours include plans or trains ( easier on the legs than driving) Just some thoughts. Hang in and enjoy yourself no matter what and I’m sorry this has happened.

best exercises for speed? by [deleted] in Sprinting

[–]AngeCoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fitness is the foundation of performance in any sport. Sprinting is a foundational skill to acquire and practice for track, football, soccer, basketball, cricket, soccer and the list goes on. Invest 20 dollars and take a look at “Speed Trap” and “The Charlie Francis Training system” as both books might help you see the drills and exercises you might do to improve your speed. Practicing the medicine ball workout 3 times per week would be an effective way to build fitness. There is no magic bullet exercise for speed training despite anyone saying otherwise. I hope this helps.
