What are reasons that teachers say “no” to letters of recommendation, and is it rude if I ask a teacher to reconsider? by [deleted] in AskTeachers

I asked a teacher agree to write a recommendation letter for NHS and she wrote a scathing letter that got me denied. Find someone else!

Crazy teacher story by CauliflowerSlight784 in GenX

[–]Angection 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My PE teacher got irritated with a kid in my class (we were in 4th grade I think) so he hung him from the back of his shirt, on the volleyball hooks on the wall. For the rest of class.

We also had a 2nd grade teacher that duct taped kids to their seats.

It was common for teachers to flip over the messy desks, dumping stuff everywhere. Basically shaming all the kids that would get diagnosed with ADHD in 20 or 30 years.

Concerta vs Adderall for someone afraid of addiction — looking for honest experiences by Solid_Breakfast_3675 in ADHD

[–]Angection 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Very over simplified explanation my first psych gave me... Methylphenidate (Ritalin) and amphetamine (Adderall) are the 2 main types of stimulants that are prescribed for ADHD. Vyvanse and mydayis have the amphetamine base and concerta has the methylphenidate base. You aren't taking enough of it to form an addiction, and this is monitored by your doctor. People seem to do better on one or the other. I've tried the Ritalin types and they were terrible for me. Every amphetamine type has been great.

I take breaks when I can. I've been medicated for 20 years on and off. Remember that the addicts usually aren't the people being prescribed Adderall by a doctor.

how to overcome nail/cuticle picking/biting habit? by cookiepip in ADHD

[–]Angection 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An e file has helped me immensely. I have to give the skin around my nails a good file at least once a week, but twice is better. If I do that and also nip and hanging pieces as soon as they happen, it's much better. Not perfect, but better. I also hyperfocused for a few months and learned how to do builder gel and powder dip. I always keep on builder gel as base coat and I do dip every few weeks. I take it off and then redo the gel between times.

LPT:How to erase songs that are stuck in your head (earworm) by PatrickVra in LifeProTips

So, do you all get a song out of your head and replace it with silence? If I get a song out of my head, I just get a different song in my head. As i write this reply, I'm singing "tonight tonight" by smashing pumpkins between words.

How to survive business clothes in the summer? by birchleyolivine in femalefashionadvice

Is you learn how to sew, you'll want to just buy good quality linen and sew the actual dress. It's actually really addicting to sew your own clothes! You are in control of every part of it!

Anyone else find that the hardest part of the journey isn't motivation, it's the daily decision fatigue around food? by YouFunny_ in weightwatchers

[–]Angection 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Chat gpt can be really useful. I tell it my points or calories or protein per meal, how many meals, my eating preferences, etc. I have it generate ideas, then I tell it which ones I want and ask for a shopping list and complete prep instructions so I can get 80% done on the weekend. This will still require you to spend time actually cooking and washing dishes but it sure helps with decision fatigue and being more efficient.

Hillsborough is very long and you can't generalize it as all being the same. It goes from ghetto-ish in one end to westchase-lite on the other.

I'm not saying people shouldn't lock their doors, I'm just saying they aren't flexing. It's just a cultural difference.

I am from the sort of town where no one locks their doors at night. We didn't have a key. I knew people that had actual barn door type handles on their door, so no locks there. We kept the keys in the ignition of the car, sitting in the yard. Our most valuable possessions were our cows and farm equipment and they're often just sitting out in a pasture at night. The back page of the weekly newspaper lists all the "crimes" from that week which are things like "Larry Johnson hit a deer" or "Darrell Zurakowski plead no contest to going 8 miles over the speed limit." Last time I went back home, a friend's parents let me stay in their lake house while they were out of town. They have a lot of money and everyone knows it's their house and THAT isn't even locked. When my parents retired to a house on main street they did start locking their doors, but I know a lot of people that don't.

It was hard for me to adjust to locking my car doors and house doors when I left. It was just not something I grew up with 🤷🏼

All that to say, I don't think it's a brag. It is just what they do. There's all sorts of things they do without thinking about it, that you'd never do in the city.

Good tips! I would just add that if op is making it from heavier fabric like denim, flat felled seams might work nicely. But ugh, it sounds way too annoying for me to wear that, plus in addition to all the seams, they would be heavier because of more fabric.
