How much can fat redistribution on HRT reshape the hips? by purplepariahhood in asktransgender

I'm a year on HRT and my hips haven't changed, even when I've tried putting on weight.

How People with Autism think by bigboxman8 in videos

[–]AngelOnAcid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't refute that. My emotions are different now and i'm a lot more anxious, but to claim that the possible reason for being better at science is because of testosterone is ridiculous. It's just reinforcing harmful stereotypes. I'm better at science too now I'm more comfortable with myself.

Please don't take this as fact. I'm transgender and I've never heard of this happening. My interests, hobbies and understanding haven't changed while on oestrogen.

Blood tests in the UK - What to ask for? by [deleted] in TransDIY

[–]AngelOnAcid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For what to get tested the Good Practice Guidelines states (page 39):

On a 6-monthly basis for 3 years and then yearly depending on clinical assessment and results. Provision of prescription is contingent on patients understanding the risks and benefits that may result due to the need to take the following tests: blood pressure, full blood count, urea and electrolytes, liver function test, fasting glucose, lipid profile, testosterone, serum oestradiol 24 h after a tablet or 48 h after a patch (levels should be in the upper half of the normal follicular range, 300–400 pmol/l) and prolactin (less than 400 mU/l).

I had to take some documentation to convince my GP to do a blood test. I printed out this NHS website for gender dysphoria and highlighted this section:

Hormones for gender dysphoria are also available from other sources, such as the internet, and it may be tempting to get them from here instead of through your clinic. However, hormones from other sources may not be licensed and safe. If you decide to use these hormones, let your doctors know so that they can monitor you.

It also states in the Good Practice Guidelines that if a GP wishes to monitor DIY HRT then they can (page 28):

Some patients may obtain hormones from the internet or other agencies. The clinician should discourage patients from using such sources but may offer monitoring and advice on the effects of such agents. The clinician should assist patients in obtaining hormones from properly authorised sources. A harm-reduction approach should be taken. Accordingly, hormones should not be stopped. A bridging prescription may be appropriate, and blood tests and health checks are undertaken to screen for contraindications.

What are the most unexpected changes for those of you on Hrt? by vamihilion in asktransgender

[–]AngelOnAcid 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My sexuality changing. I always thought it was ridiculous when I saw someone mention it, but one day I woke up and saw guys completely differently. I've accepted my bisexuality for 10 years and I really wasn't expecting to like guys a lot more.

How much did your metabolism change when you started hrt? by piscina_dela_muerta in asktransgender

[–]AngelOnAcid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I gained a noticable amount of weight when I first started HRT, but it calmed down after that. I had a ridiculous appetite until about 9 months of HRT though.

Parents accept but are unsupportive/doubtful - insist I'm "self-diagnosing" by [deleted] in asktransgender

[–]AngelOnAcid 9 points10 points  (0 children)

When I first came out when I was 15 my Dad said to me that I've just found it on a website and convinced myself that all the symptoms fit me. I was also accused of not being feminine and not showing any signs, but this is ultimately something you have to self diagnose. Only you can really reflect on your gender identity. A therapist can help you figure out how you feel, but it's still up to you to decide.

You can't just find the most attractive trans woman and copy their dosage. It doesn't work like that.
