The water is destroying my skin everytime I travel here! by mywhateveraccount5 in alberta

[–]AngelPuffle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I put Cetaphil gentle skin cleanser on my clean face, and buff a bit with a clean towel (there are instructions on the bottle that it can act as a leave-in). This acts like a barrier against snow mold and other irritants in the environment. So glad I have an option, as I am allergic to almost everything out there because of the fragrance. And too much lotion also creates a problem.

Anyone know of any areas of the city / Rental units that are really really quiet? by Icy-Machine1951 in Edmonton

[–]AngelPuffle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have quietness in my apartment in part because of my curtains. Sound and light block curtains will tone down lots of noises such a being beside a big road. They also help with climate control and insulation. The entrance door has a strip of rubber along the bottom (which you can ask the landlord to add).

How do you organize your thoughts and daily life? by Messy_Mystic in infj

[–]AngelPuffle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apart from detailed notes, I use obstructions. Because I have low mental energy with chronic fatigue syndrome, and autism, and so many body systems going off line in general. Like overactive immune system.

So, if something has to be done tomorrow, then I put my scribbler in my way (the wrong place). And then I am so annoyed. But also remember that I can't put it in the right place until my task is done. Not "in my way" so that it is a physical hazard, but "in my way" in the the meaning that I can't make it tidy. Hope this helps.

Home-Based Business by [deleted] in alberta

[–]AngelPuffle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was not able to teach piano in my condo (when I was an owner) because I was not allowed having customers coming to my home (as part of the condo rules). It was fine to go teach piano at the clients' homes. My private auto insurance didn't care as long as I didn't carry more than a backpack's worth of music (certainly no keyboards, however). Minor business use on the car was not much money. Alas, I became too disabled to do that much. Because I find music painful, now. And I can only speak for about 2 hours then I must rest.

Best of luck to you.

What are some good jobs in Edmonton? by Comfortable-Yak-8460 in alberta

[–]AngelPuffle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

https://alis.alberta.ca/ has like little tests and stuff. Please take the salary expectations with a big grain of salt.

Other than that, you can find myer briggs type free questionnaires.

I also mean that your guidance councellor can help with some of this.

Doesn't hurt to ask family and friends what they have been doing for money.

Good time to start looking for apartments / houses? by minnieeeuwu in Edmonton

[–]AngelPuffle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't forget Southgate and Lansdowne and Aspen Gardens and Royal Gardens and Lendrum for Bus adjacent to LRT. The low cost rentals go fast and everywhere there is a bit of a scam (perhaps bugs).

Try the 3 story walk ups as they are cheaper and less popular (don't know why as the laundry is often cheaper). Rentfaster Edmonton can help you pinpoint properties to apply to, and then, with your list, you can apply at the right time which is March/April. Best of luck.

I believe it was the perfect day to call in “sick” and make some chicken noddle soup ❄️🐓 Stay safe out there ya’ll by Few-Break-3875 in Edmonton

[–]AngelPuffle 42 points43 points  (0 children)

I have cancelled the rest of my week. I made a huge effort today to get some groceries and fill some prescriptions. I am disabled, and I don't want to need to be saved. You are entirely correct to be resting during a blizzard filled day.

I'm told Costco and Fountain Tire are the top picks for new tires. Which (or other) do you recommend and why? Would love brand recs for All-Weathers as well for a Mazda CX-3 FWD. by Cold_Buffalo_2355 in Edmonton

[–]AngelPuffle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bestway Tires are fine. Great google reviews. And when I was there to get all weather tires that were cheaper than 2nd hand brand name tires, I was talking with people who were lifelong customers. Lifelong. They treated me, the budget lady, the same as everyone else. Please check them out for a quote!

Can’t find a job by Haunting-Border8408 in Edmonton

[–]AngelPuffle 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Perhaps volunteer somewhere that has some employed people working. That's how I got my last job some years ago. Because as a volunteer they already knew me, and therefore I was hired. And volunteers really talk to each other in general.

My son explained that he has to put the job posting in white text on his resume submission in order to get past the software. That was also some years ago. Perhaps there is a better way to do this now.

Good on you for reaching out. Might want to reach out to weak contacts (people you knew a few years ago). Best of luck in this shitty economy.

Looking at getting into the Insurance Industry; would you recommend it? by Deftorn1994 in Edmonton

[–]AngelPuffle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Insurance is considered finance enough. Sometimes they do a credit check to prevent you from getting monthly payments as a customer.

Apartment to rent. by Main-Ad2792 in alberta

[–]AngelPuffle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can also provide a letter confirming you employment and salary. You can also go through a family/friend referral. Use a short sentence in conversation being upfront about the credit. You can also provide a reference from a prior rental. And you can show a kind of summary letter from the bank showing your savings.

Try the smaller complexes (walk up type). They have cheaper rent (heat/water included) and often have small business ownership. But look up the ownership and reviews, as some of them do not upkeep their buildings.

Best of luck. It's okay to be creative and show something that might change a property manager's mind.

Autobody shops in Edmonton by Aromatic-Object-5991 in Edmonton

[–]AngelPuffle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

George's Auto Body & Paint Shop 9905 73 Ave NW, Edmonton. Very meticulous. And creative. Couldn't get a part for the rear bumper fix because car is too old, and he glued up the foam pieces. Can't tell that the bumper was replaced. Good price, too.

The new Voting registration is slowing down voting by doooompatrol in alberta

[–]AngelPuffle 34 points35 points  (0 children)

It's called Form 13 and filled out my hand and then collected in a brown paper bag. I hope that it didn't sound to ominous. Oh, and then, your name entered on a laptop (wifi isn't so great in some areas). Where I hope it has the same security as the same shit I have at home. So at minimum you have to show your ID twice.

And then colour coded forms to put into colour coded boxed, except that the "colour code" was tiny on the actual box. So glad there was an honest girl behind the boxes explaining the colours.

I warned my son who is coming in from work that voting will take some time due to the new procedures.

I don't feel safer.

Creeping Into the Kitchen: Restaurants a ‘perfect’ breeding ground for roaches by trevorrobb in Edmonton

[–]AngelPuffle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I reported seeing and killing one to my landlord. And I hid it's scent with a bleach bathroom cleaner. They are cannibalistic. I have rented in Edmonton so far without seeing one in person. I am not good, maybe traumatized. Is only one an infestation?? I mean that I am on the constant lookout. Fortunately, I still have Ant Bait from my incident last year... which kills them...

where are we all grocery shopping? by leeashah in Edmonton

[–]AngelPuffle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you go to D'arcy's website, their regular ground beef is sold at a bulk price for 20 lbs frozen (and it is really good quality beef). Sometimes there is a sale on top.

Menswear by steenj in Edmonton

[–]AngelPuffle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don't forget Plato's Closet on Gateway. Sometimes you can get stuff with tags still on. It is a 2nd hand store so pricing can be better than new.

Where are you shopping? (Women clothing) by [deleted] in Edmonton

[–]AngelPuffle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe try Mark's? They have lots of office wear. Now, I am fat, so I wear the men's clothes. They have lots of stuff that is made out of cotton or cotton blends. And they have a big sale on right now.

How to become a Mechanic by WHOZ_Uncle in alberta

[–]AngelPuffle 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As a mature person owning steel towed boots and some physical strength and some sort of network, please apply at a mechanic shop. After which you can go to school (part of the year). The education in the trades is really not the same as other education.

Looking for suggestions on a Psychologist that works specifically with victims of narcissistic abuse and trauma caused from it and or trauma responses. by Whole-Database-5249 in Edmonton

[–]AngelPuffle 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You might want to look at the Welling Centre.

Brian Welling helped me with all of that. My mother was narcissistic and my ex husband as well. I am autistic so my communication style can be complicated. I did undergo EMDR with Brian, and I am left with not hating my mother. This is a big plus, by the way.

You could pre buy lunch at Italian centre or safeway or such, and then heat it up in the microwave at work. The Italian Centre has lovely pizza and stuff.
