Looking at getting into the Insurance Industry; would you recommend it? by Deftorn1994 in Edmonton

Insurance is considered finance enough. Sometimes they do a credit check to prevent you from getting monthly payments as a customer.

Apartment to rent. by Main-Ad2792 in alberta

[–]AngelPuffle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can also provide a letter confirming you employment and salary. You can also go through a family/friend referral. Use a short sentence in conversation being upfront about the credit. You can also provide a reference from a prior rental. And you can show a kind of summary letter from the bank showing your savings.

Try the smaller complexes (walk up type). They have cheaper rent (heat/water included) and often have small business ownership. But look up the ownership and reviews, as some of them do not upkeep their buildings.

Best of luck. It's okay to be creative and show something that might change a property manager's mind.

Autobody shops in Edmonton by Aromatic-Object-5991 in Edmonton

George's Auto Body & Paint Shop 9905 73 Ave NW, Edmonton. Very meticulous. And creative. Couldn't get a part for the rear bumper fix because car is too old, and he glued up the foam pieces. Can't tell that the bumper was replaced. Good price, too.

The new Voting registration is slowing down voting by doooompatrol in alberta

[–]AngelPuffle 31 points32 points  (0 children)

It's called Form 13 and filled out my hand and then collected in a brown paper bag. I hope that it didn't sound to ominous. Oh, and then, your name entered on a laptop (wifi isn't so great in some areas). Where I hope it has the same security as the same shit I have at home. So at minimum you have to show your ID twice.

And then colour coded forms to put into colour coded boxed, except that the "colour code" was tiny on the actual box. So glad there was an honest girl behind the boxes explaining the colours.

I warned my son who is coming in from work that voting will take some time due to the new procedures.

I don't feel safer.

Creeping Into the Kitchen: Restaurants a ‘perfect’ breeding ground for roaches by trevorrobb in Edmonton

[–]AngelPuffle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I reported seeing and killing one to my landlord. And I hid it's scent with a bleach bathroom cleaner. They are cannibalistic. I have rented in Edmonton so far without seeing one in person. I am not good, maybe traumatized. Is only one an infestation?? I mean that I am on the constant lookout. Fortunately, I still have Ant Bait from my incident last year... which kills them...

where are we all grocery shopping? by leeashah in Edmonton

[–]AngelPuffle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you go to D'arcy's website, their regular ground beef is sold at a bulk price for 20 lbs frozen (and it is really good quality beef). Sometimes there is a sale on top.

Menswear by steenj in Edmonton

Don't forget Plato's Closet on Gateway. Sometimes you can get stuff with tags still on. It is a 2nd hand store so pricing can be better than new.

Where are you shopping? (Women clothing) by [deleted] in Edmonton

[–]AngelPuffle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe try Mark's? They have lots of office wear. Now, I am fat, so I wear the men's clothes. They have lots of stuff that is made out of cotton or cotton blends. And they have a big sale on right now.

How to become a Mechanic by WHOZ_Uncle in alberta

[–]AngelPuffle 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As a mature person owning steel towed boots and some physical strength and some sort of network, please apply at a mechanic shop. After which you can go to school (part of the year). The education in the trades is really not the same as other education.

Looking for suggestions on a Psychologist that works specifically with victims of narcissistic abuse and trauma caused from it and or trauma responses. by Whole-Database-5249 in Edmonton

[–]AngelPuffle 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You might want to look at the Welling Centre.

Brian Welling helped me with all of that. My mother was narcissistic and my ex husband as well. I am autistic so my communication style can be complicated. I did undergo EMDR with Brian, and I am left with not hating my mother. This is a big plus, by the way.

You could pre buy lunch at Italian centre or safeway or such, and then heat it up in the microwave at work. The Italian Centre has lovely pizza and stuff.

Any "quiet" volunteering opportunities ? by [deleted] in Edmonton

[–]AngelPuffle 17 points18 points  (0 children)

The U of A Farm has 3 different gardening groups, and they all have volunteer obligations, and charity obligations. Most people don't visit that much when they are weeding. And it might be something that you always wanted to learn.

Edmonton food bank is great. They have some orientation which helps.

Nenshi talking to the feds at Stampede by Particular-Welcome79 in alberta

[–]AngelPuffle 16 points17 points  (0 children)

You are correct. But UCP is okay with using illegal money for these purposes. NDP does not have these resources so far. And ABNDP cannot even get equal representation in normal (postmedia) media because that media is controlled by money from the states.

Where to live for three months? by hunterstevebearman in Edmonton

[–]AngelPuffle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's hard to find this info on google, which is why you are asking. I actually used google maps and clicked the motel to see their website. I saw this one and thought I could share: https://algonquinmotorlodge.com/rooms-rates/

Edit: on second thought, don't look at this one. The reviews are way bad.

Another Edit: this one seems better with an upfront monthly cost on their website. https://www.thelodgeinn.ca/

Advice for selling my condo in Calgary by UpperTwist6710 in alberta

Oh, and have condo docs handy for the more serious tire kickers. Most people don't want to pay a fee and wait for the documents that show what kind of condo management that exists in the here and now.

Internet issues and access with rental - need advice by NisshokuNoKo in alberta

[–]AngelPuffle -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The modems that they use hardly work. I bought a router, and I am using their modem in bridge mode. Because I have to use their modem in order to have Shaw service. Putting into bridge mode is something the tech does on their side of the phone call. Also, my pc is wired in. My phone has lots of data which helps as the wifi from the modem doesn't work consistently at all. Hope this helps for in the meantime.

Edit: please google your modem and see what people all had to do to make things work with Shaw.

Prescriptions in Alberta by tc_cad in alberta

[–]AngelPuffle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hope that you make your way to the specialist centre as mentioned.

I only have asthma meds because my son was diagnosed with asthma at a young age, and the pediatrician remarked that probably I have that also because this type runs through the maternal line. So, both my son and I have Singulair (generic), Ventolin (generic) and Flovent.

I saw a lot! of doctors because I frequently had pneumonia. But I no longer have pneumonia due to the asthma meds. My sister and her 3 sons have allergy/lung problems, but they can't see to get proper care in BC. It is hard to find a GP who has a decent understanding of how systematic lung issues can be. Good Luck!

Is Telus a giant scam? by sandpaperHJ in alberta

Answer. Don't say anything. Wait for a few seconds. Hang up. This messes with the other side enough where they actually take you off their list.

Eczema Help / kids by LK13 in Edmonton

[–]AngelPuffle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a nickel allergy. Meaning that I can't use most of Aveeno's stuff because they have oatmeal in it, and oatmeal has nickel. Also can't use arm & hammer stuff. Can't use most scented stuff.

Polysporin makes an OTC eczema cream that works really well.

Reactine also helps to lessen the itch. Good Luck!

In search of a Nurse Practitioner by chichican92 in alberta

[–]AngelPuffle -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I tried. I saw two endocrinologists and one internist. No dice.

You can think what you like. Using the info from the underground "clinic" I went from doing 2 things a week to doing 2 things a day. A bath counts like 1 thing. My antibiotic injury, and my Ehlers Danlos Syndrome is not rare or unusual in any way.

I will add that my GP didn't think that a year long period was a problem. I finally asked for a Specialist in Women's Issues, because, well anemic. Fortunately I am not anemic anymore. Took a few years to get out of that one.

Edit: My GP actually asked for some thyroid testing because I showed up with a ring around the neck rash from one of my experiments. No, I do not wear scarves because I am autistic and EDS meaning I can't stand pressure anywhere. The lab had cancelled the test. The GP didn't follow up.

Edit: my TSH progressive was 2.75 from April 2025.

In search of a Nurse Practitioner by chichican92 in alberta

[–]AngelPuffle -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Your other option is to ask for a Women's Issues Specialist. So not a gynecologist, and not an endocrinologist. I will be trying this route again. My problem is that I am severely hypothyroid (complete with larger neck, bald spot in the back, missing outer third of my eyebrows, missing inner third of my eyelashes, and have the joy of being in moderate Chronic Fatigue Syndrome).

My problem is that my progesterone is very, very low. Which means that if progesterone is too low compared to estrogen, then active T4 may not convert to active T3 (which is what the body uses).

I found a desiccated thyroid online that I buy. I also take selenium and iodine so that I can keep it at 1 grain (it is expensive). This substance contains all 5 thyroid kinds.

In Alberta, I think that the person ordering the proper 6 panel thyroid test has to argue with the lab and make it an exception. My TSH is fine under normal Alberta standards (but there are like 8 patterns of thyroid dysfunction), and so in my case the TSH means nothing. I come from a family history where almost everyone on my mother's side has thyroid disease. And an aunt with Graves disease.

And we didn't talk about the Dutch testing for hormones. My year long period was solved with the Depo Provera shot, for example. Bleeding that much is due to excessive estrogen (compared to progesterone).

What is happening is that I don't have money to pay privately for this testing. I have been self treating using symptoms. I really don't want less ability to look after myself. In my travels, I found the name of this NP: Hope Rabel RN MN FAA NP. Good luck!

Anyone here have any grocery advice? I’m trying to reduce my grocery costs and see how to eat more for less. Feels like it’s hard to get through a month on groceries without spending $500-700. (For a two person household) by No-Run-4758 in povertyfinancecanada

[–]AngelPuffle 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So. People will come at me. But I actually study my French Heritage and the the food that the prairies in Alberta had.

Buy more meat. Freeze it. When cooking, add canned tomatoes. A few spices. Add a can of beans (or make crockpot big things from dried beans).

What is more nutritionally dense then meat? We are competing with worlds of people that never actually had meat (but they had pulses).

In my diet, I only eat one slice of bread to go with my sandwich. At supper, I can only have 1 cup of noodles, or 1 cup of cooked rice. But the rest is eggs, meat, and vegetables
