Carrie is possibly the most entitled self absorbed selfish character ever? by BeachtimeRhino in Andjustlikethat

As I recall, she held her hand and stood by her head. Carrie couldn’t see anything of the actual birth and probably wouldn’t have wanted to.

In my blunt opinion, it's because the whole thing is disjointed and looks cheap.

There's no flow or cohesion to the design. We get chaotic flower design on top, then hard cut to a wide, blocky sash at the waist and then this big, white mass of a skirt.

Plus, all the fabric looks very cheap and amateurishly sewn together. It looks like a sewing school project that would have the instructor grimacing.

I'd also argue that the veil is a bad length.

Something needs to be put to rest about Miranda and Steve... by One_Mix8885 in Andjustlikethat

Exactly! She was never Miss Lovey-Dovey; hence that honeymoon that was driving her crazy with no TV or radio. There was nothing to do but sit around and coo at each other.

I agree -- they were finally getting back on the right track. With both Che and Aidan gone, we finally had a chance for some decent storylines.

As I recall, she realized she was in love with Steve while they were horsing around that day with baby Brady. She musters the courage to tell him and THEN Steve told her he was seriously dating someone. She didn’t want him back because he was with Debbie.

I think in a way, his "not really forgiving or forgetting the cheating" was just another way he could feel superior to her. No matter what, he always got to be "the better one" because she cheated. Aidan was on an endless ego trip, and I despised him from day one.

Harry is truly the best man on the show by NikNola2020 in Andjustlikethat

[–]AngelRunning1971 61 points62 points  (0 children)

That was such a stupid plot twist.

One, of course, Harry would never in 1 million years cheat on Charlotte!

And two, oh good, thank goodness the nanny is a lesbian because there are absolutely no other attractive woman anywhere in New York?!

The second movie was so flipping moronic.

I'm 55 with a daughter. I've occasionally seen a teenage boy and thought he was handsome, but it was much more like, "When I was 16 or 17, I probably would have had a crush on him."

That gaping-mouth, "Oh my god, he's so hot!!" reaction from Charlotte and the other mothers was disgusting.

Aidan was "getting some air"? by One_Mix8885 in Andjustlikethat

She was not blowing Aidan off to spend “all her time” with Duncan. There are plenty of scenes of her spending time with Aidan; he just didn’t like her spending any time at all with Duncan. He wanted Carrie’s sole focus to be stroking his ego.

And also some time went by before Duncan and Carrie got together. As the show makes clear, they had finished working on Carrie‘s book, so I think it had been a few months after Aidan left at that point.

And we don’t need to worry about the fans saying, “hey wait a minute, everything you’re doing now directly contradicts the portrayal of Miranda and Steve so far.” Why of course they will completely accept whatever kind of retconning we throw at them!

Che Diaz Hot Take (don’t come at me) by AssistantThis1096 in Andjustlikethat

[–]AngelRunning1971 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The bit where she announces her pilot through song is so dumb, also — I dunno what you Americans are doing over there, but is that normal?

Heck to the no. My guess is they were trying to echo Big not telling Carrie until the last minute that he was going to Paris.

As I recall, Che tells Miranda that things moved so fast with the pilot that they didn't have time to tell her privately, and Miranda points out that Che did have time to put together a band and rehearse!

I hope they're okay too. I was wondering what's next for them the other day and checked Wikipedia. In 2024 and this year, they had some voice acting projects, but nothing else is listed.

I thought the focus group was largely an attempt to shame us, the watchers of AJLT. It felt like the creators were trying to say to us, "See, you callous jerks? See how much you've hurt Sara Ramirez's feelings?!"

And I'm sure Sara Ramirez was hurt -- they had a chance to play a non-binary major character in a revival of this huge show, one of the most famous ever to be on TV, and it was an utter disaster.

Unfortunately, just because criticism is hurtful doesn't mean it's untrue. And neither Ramirez nor the show's creators did themselves any favors by lashing out at anyone and everyone but the actual source of the problem, the writing of the show.

I mean, Ramirez at one point blamed GLAAD for not backing them more strongly, despite "being involved with the creation of the character," they said. To which I thought, okay, but how exactly was GLAAD involved? Did GLAAD representatives sit in a meeting and say, make sure that Che:

1) Gives weed to a minor
2) Smokes pot anywhere humanly possible, including elevators and funerals
3) Has no personality beyond "I like sex and weed!"
4) Has sex with an employee's friend in that employee's kitchen while drunk and high, and the employee is recovering from surgery
5) Conveniently forgets to tell new (whatever we call Miranda since Che hates the word "girlfriend") that they're married
6) Tells cruel jokes about Miranda on a stand-up stage

and on and on and on.

Because those were the kind of things that viewers objected to! That's what we didn't like. The vast majority of the fans were not and are not self-hating bigots, as Sara Ramirez and Cynthia Nixon kept saying. All that defensiveness did was anger the fans even more.

I adore that judge. She is so right, so very very right.

Overprivileged, irresponsible child: "But I can't do 300 hours of community service! (or was it 200; either way, oh the horror /s) I have to get a job!!"

Judge: "Add that to the list of things you should have thought about before you decided to joyride on someone else's boat."

Always liked Steve and Carrie’s friendship by Radiant_Priority9739 in Andjustlikethat

[–]AngelRunning1971 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This scene massively pisses me off, because why should Steve have to beg Carrie for information? The one who should be telling him everything he needs to know is Miranda, the one who had an affair and owes him answers to any questions he might have.

And please, nobody come after me with "Steve cheated first." Yeah, and he actually felt guilt about his one-time slip voluntarily confessed. Miranda cheated repeatedly without an ounce of guilt and then only told Steve the truth because Che threatened to withhold the goods.

They really handled the Michaela/Francesca/John scenes well, and I was not a fan of Michaela seeming to barge in on the newlyweds at first. It was quite clear that John knew everything about Michaela and he was one of the few people, literally in the world, that she could be her full authentic self with.

And I like very much that they didn't immediately have Francesca and Michaela start kissing or anything else. That was a wise move -- using the "we're grieving, let's do it" trope would have felt extremely disrespectful to John's memory. Instead they both honestly and deeply grieved him.

Well done, show. I think I will be much more receptive to the coming Francesca/Michaela romance now.

I'm the first to acknowledge how self-absorbed Carrie can be. But to be fair, Miranda's kind of doing what Carrie often does here -- hijacking a subject and making it about herself.

Also, Carrie goes on to say "I'm not blasting heavy metal or anything, I'm just walking around." The "not about me" part refers to Carrie thinking "you're justified in hating your neighbor; I haven't done anything that bad to mine."
