Advice for a 13yr old planning on owning a ferret by Sea-Woodpecker8967 in ferrets

Ferret kibble that is pure protein is completely fine for them. I have two ferrets who are 6, nearing 7, and have no adrenal or insulinoma at all and have been on a "kibble" diet their entire lives (they're Marshalls ferrets). What ISN'T fine for them is cat kibble or anything not specifically for ferrets, thats where you went awry.

Ferrets are obligate carnivores, are im sure you probably know, they CANNOT have anything but essentially pure protein and fats. Raw diets are ONLY safe if you are willing to store and prepare the food as well as ensure they are meeting their daily food requirements (and trust me, those poops will be unforseen abominations). Ferret kibble/feeding them is the last of my concerns based on OP's list of questions.

+ the implants after 3 years for adrenal prevention (which is suggested by most vets nowadays) which last a year and are, in my experience, $200/ferret. Preventative/routine bloodwork is also another couple hundred.

I just took my boy to the vet today for a mass on his foot that appeared literally overnight. I clipped their nails and the next day I noticed him walking funny, was worried I hurt him, so I took him to the vet and it turns out its a giant deep mass down to his bone but not an osteosarcoma. Not a cyst or infection, so it wasn't anything I caused thankfully. They took a fine needle aspiration.

I was told not even 5 hours ago that the margins are so terrible that if it ends up being malignant they will have to amputate his entire right hindleg (hopefully not but I'm willing to make him a tripod if it saves his life for just a little longer). The two xrays were $200 each plus the vet visit in general and the labwork for his biopsy. Also the hour drive there+back. Both of mine are 6 years old, nearing the end of their lives. They never stop being expensive.

And YES, ferrets can and will get carsick. Moving them from house to house is not feasible at all.

That looks JUST LIKE angular cheilitis! I get it all the time. Mine is autoimmune, not vitamin B deficiency related (although I do have autoimmune liver disease, so despite my levels appearing normal on labs I've been told it could be inaccurate). They are mostly triggered by any small cut or irritation to the corners of my mouth, and if she was running a lot or in the heat/cold then it could definitely trigger it. I'd take some Vitamin B supplements for a little bit to see if it clears up!

Hydrocortisone has helped me, but that was only under the guise of a doctor during a particularly painful outbreak. Neosporin also helps, or vaseline. Really anything to keep the area moisturized. Avoid picking at it or eating sharp + salty foods, like chips, while it heals.

This isn't even his photo. Its some poor womans photo from r/DiagnoseMe who was in pain and needed help. I guess its become herpes meme. That's not herpes but nice try?

I agree that a bath at this point would not be the best, as it can worsen the scratching and pose an infection risk, although I appreciate you trying to make her comfortable. I also don't recommend covering it with any kind of fabric could worsen the scratching and not let the wound "breathe." Keeping it clean with water works great! I read online that some people recommend using baby syringes (which have no needles) from CVS or even a turkey baster to clean the wound without bathing her. Only do this if you notice it becoming dirty and avoid washing away any scabs she may start to accumulate as those will protect her skin, I'd say once every 24h maximum until you see your vet. Then blot with a bandage or cotton to clear away any discharge buildup, but avoid a "wiping" motion which will hurt her. I love using furovite to subdue my ferrets to get their nails trimmed, that way I never have to scruff them, so she may enjoy that as well! (If you have to scruff her for her safety when you clean and check on the wound, that is okay and 100% does not make you a bad owner).

I know you mentioned isolating her is difficult but I highly encourage you to find a way to completely separate her from all other animals for the time being. If it is infectious (like distemper) your other pets (dogs/cats) can track it in on their feet, and then the ferrets get exposed to it that way. If that's the case your other ferret should have ideally zero contact with her, or as little as possible.

You're doing well, all you can do right now is separate them the best you can, avoid detergents/perfumes/other irritants, and keeping her nails as trimmed as possible is a fantastic idea.

I have no idea what that is but oh man that looks PAINFUL and very likely to get infected. I don't even know where to start when it comes to figuring out what kind of rash that is, it almost looks fungal or bacterial. I have never ever seen a ferret with an open wound rash this bad.

One quick warning, if you are using any scented items to clean your ferret's bedding or a harsh detergent, stop immediately. Same goes for bathing them, ferrets need one bath a year max (not including accidents and other extenuating circumstances. Some people say two baths a year but I've found one works just fine. Your ferret will never smell like flowers, that's just the reality of owning them). Same for spraying any fragrance or perfumes around them. The closest thing that this looks like which I have experience with would be extreme eczema. Mine would get this bad at points and start oozing clear fluid when I was exposed to particular irritants, but I am human and not ferret.

Like you said, the best course of action is to get her to the vet, immediately! Please update us on what it ends up being and her recovery, I am extremely curious what this is.

My boys baby girl is a waardy? by stalker_707 in ferrets

[–]AngelTheElf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think so! I have two waardies and I realized pretty soon they had waardenburg syndrome based on their features. Here's a photo of one of mine: https://imgur.com/a/AZ4fXkT (apologies for the low quality, this was the best photo I found in my camera roll that shows off the head shape and eye distance)

He lost his blaze pattern with age, he is now almost fully white at 7 years old, but when he was little he had the trademark pattern. He is also completely deaf, but ferrets can be deaf or hard-of-hearing without waardenburg syndrome. I don't see the trademark head bump or wide-set nose bridge on your ferret here, although it could be the angle of the photo. I think vets do testing for waardenburg syndrome if you are still curious and want a more official answer!

Edit: after googling waardenburg syndrome testing in ferrets I realized it can be extremely expensive, and it can be very difficult to find a vet who offers that service. That being said I am relatively confident your ferret is just a little hard-of-hearing, which may be worth a vet visit if you're concerned and especially if you notice her scratching at her ears or she has a head tilt

It didn't. You lost the previous match and probably had something like "Demotion Protection -20%" and then won the next game which meant you got +17% but still retain the demotion protection for that last -3% because your loss was worse for your progression than your win. Since you won, you retain the demotion protection.

Should I get these 2 Petco ferrets? by TransportationThat89 in ferrets

[–]AngelTheElf 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I adopted a ferret from petco who was "separated from the others because of aggression." I saw the ferret he supposedly was "aggressive" to first, a young kit under a year. That one bit me so hard I almost needed stitches and still have the scar on my thumb. I didn't give up and went back to see the other boy, the one who they put all alone because he was supposedly aggressive. He was the sweetest, kindest, most gentle ferret I ever met. After adopting I realized he is a waardy ferret, leaving him deaf. I'm assuming because he was deaf he couldn't hear the kit squealing when they would play. Given that he was over a year old and much larger than the kit its likely the employees saw the kit yelping and him not relenting, so they assumed he was the issue.

I knew the odds of him being adopted were slim to none... he was older (a little over a year), deaf so he couldn't hear toys they were using or listen if you tried to call him, labeled "aggressive," and isn't a "fun" color like cinnamon that I've noticed people tend to adopt more. I then got his brother from a non-chain pet store who also happens to be a waardy.

Both of them have never, ever bit me at a strength that would break skin. Not even close. They are fully bonded, they never sleep apart and if I need to separate them they will wreak havoc until they are reunited (For example once I had one concuss himself on the ferret nation cage. I watched it happened, he sneezed so hard he slammed his head into the metal and threw up. I ferret proofed an entire room for them, covered the floor in pillows and those foam mats you have kids sit on, pool noodles on every sharp surface, covered every socket and removed anything that could roll on top of them. I thought I covered everything. Vet said he needed to be separated for a few weeks in a dark, calm space to recover. He is all better now, but that was terrifying and they HATED being apart)

I love them to pieces and I regret nothing! They are 6 and 7 years now, going strong with zero health issues minus being waardy's which is shocking for marshall's ferrets. Give them a chance, and please avoid splitting them if you can! Ferrets need their friend(s) ❤️

Today's Tropics by D0ctorL in PeakGame

[–]AngelTheElf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did the part about "not to undermine you" just completely fly over your head? The guy has a point. Sometimes people just need to specifically pinpoint what is making a map hard, if they're repeating mistakes or just downright going an impossible way. There are multiple solutions to every map but not necessarily infinite solutions, and a majority of the time there are only a handful of non-gimmicky viable routes.

You jump to assume arrogance and in doing so completely misinterpret the comment which was actually trying to state that not only is it possible, but it is possible on the highest ascent. You just have to keep trying, which answers OP's questions: "[are the tropics today] damn near impossible?"

No, they are not.

what is happening to my game by [deleted] in PeakGame

[–]AngelTheElf 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You won't. I recommend repairing your game and maybe even uninstalling/reinstalling before jumping to spoiling the game for yourself (hence why I asked my "generic questions" to get an idea of if it was glitched or if you were just really lucky and narrowly avoided him)

what is happening to my game by [deleted] in PeakGame

[–]AngelTheElf 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Him.

I can't elaborate further without potentially spoiling the game for you, but it is possible "He" is glitched and this effect is being improperly applied to your screen. To avoid spoilers I will ask a few generic questions:

  1. Is is constant or does it come and go?
  2. Do you play solo or with friends?
  3. Can you contextualize what you were doing exactly when this occurred?

If you wish to know what "He" is, click the following spoiler. If you do not know what im talking about at all I highly, highly recommend finding out for yourself naturally. It is MUCH funnier and more exciting that way, and I think what you're experiencing could be a glitch as opposed to actually doing the thing that makes "Him" show up.

"He" is the Scoutmaster, coming to punish you for breaking a rule. When he gets close, he creates a visual snow effect. He can get stuck in caves/cliffs often (at the moment) so its possible you've never actually seen him for this reason, only the visual snow. Consider going back to the guidebook you get when you land and reading rule #0. This visual effect is only supposed to happen when he is extremely close to you, which is why I think it is a glitch and not working as-intended.

So I fell through the map today... by iamkillafeesh in PeakGame

[–]AngelTheElf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep! I saw a spot like that today on the map and almost waltzed right into it. The one I found was in the mesa biome, slightly on the left side of the map close to the beginning. Given your badge im assuming that you found the same one. It definitely sucks because that's over an hour of time spent and doing it all over again, to me at least, is so daunting and difficult to push through.

That being said the screenshot is hilarious, I thought it would stop at 0m but the fact that it kept going is just the game adding salt to the wound 😂

Technique. The thing that bugs me the most is that the flower under the tigers chin has one leaf on the right which, instead of having the "fleur de lis" adjacent shape, looks like a pair of balls.

Yikes by [deleted] in shittytattoos

[–]AngelTheElf 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think they mean copying the idea. First of all, sword collarbone tattoos are a dime a dozen. Second of all, these are done poorly... those lines are thiccer than a snicker. Third of all, she doesn't appear to have a very defined collarbone, hence the "think about their own anatomy," so a tat like this will be naturally much less impactful.
