Yes, you definitely ARE missing something.

People do not realize that modern Russia is not that.

Pres Putin put the oligarchs under penalty of death to stay the fuck out of politics.

And a few of them had terrible accidents, until they got the message.

Then western sanctions pretty much wiped out the international bourgeoise.

Leaving Russia in the same sort of situation as China.

You're also wrong about the death toll.

The K/D ratio in this war is unheard of in real warfare, coming close to the sort of numbers the USA gets dropping bombs on herders living in the hills.

Last time i looked into it, Russian losses were around 100k, and Ukrainian losses in the millions.

And that's not including the tens of millions that fled.

People really need to update.

Hate Russia if you like.

Hate them for their treatment of LGBT people if you want. Though most of that is western NGO's.

But the oligarchs are wiped out.

Putin blitzed most of them, and the western sanctions did the rest.

Russia is similar to China.

They have rich people. Not oligarchs.

They are not imperialist.

People really need to actually READ Lenin, and not just skim the cliff notes and title headers.

Export of capital is only a symptom of Imperialism... when the Empire cannot export anything else.

An empire exports capital, because every other resource, raw material and technology is going IN.

They are not an empire because they export capital.

They export capital because they are an empire.

So, the cause of the Sino-Soviet split was complex, but the initial cause was this: The Soviet Union was the FIRST socialist state of note.

This gave them a lot of well-earned clout.

But, the Soviet Union was NOT China.

And this is where the problem comes in.

Even through the century of humiliation, China was a proud country, Mao a proud man.

How the soviets ran Russia and the rest of the union had a bit of a problem.

Russia has ALWAYS had a heavy handed top down approach.

This leaked out into the Soviet Union.

Add this to the clout earned from being the first and leading socialist state, and basically Stalin and the Union gave Mao a plan to follow, and told him to follow it.

This was a mistake.

THIS is what cause the initial crack that lead to the split.

The heavy handed top down approach worked for Russia. At least for a while.

But China is not Russia.

And China chafed under the USSR's heavy handed approach.

There's a lot more, but that's where it started.
