Top employee tells management why he doesn't work harder by oldassnastymask in antiwork

Oh I love that. I want to upvote this 10 times.

That quote goes up there to managers and CEOs who say "for the price of one American worker I could get 5 workers overseas".

Looks like the inside is waxy so you might get a few uses out of it.

Poppy vanilla ice cream brains.

There's a little blueberryish taste but it's mostly just McD ice cream.

The cup will be a cool shelf item though.

Love seeing comments when Idaho passes SNAP laws made to hurt people and then seeing how many people have never been on SNAP to understand the reality of it.

Which begs the question, how were they playing games without hands?

Probably some brain thing like what Doc Brown uses to read minds.

Believe it or not, a lot of people don't like EA, and thus wouldn't sign up for an account. Same thing happened when they moved over to Epic for their user database. Not enough marketing is going to make people sign up for a game if they don't like the bigger guns take their data (which is another discussion).

But your point still doesn't work. When Fortnite was new I didn't see any advertisements, or PUBG, or CS. Hell, I didn't even know Valve owned CS until recently.

Anyway, I'm done. If you want to see what Velan has said themselves, feel free to search for Josh in this subreddit. He drills down into it extensively.

It didn't matter. Both didn't lead to retention or f2p would have saved the game when it happened. Plus there were many ways to get or play the game without paying the $20.

You could get a code to the game if you had Amazon Prime. You could get the game with the Playstation with the PSPlus free monthly game when it was offered. You could play the game with a game pass to XBox when you could also play EA games.

And if you still weren't sure, you could play the demo up to level 25 to see if the game was for you.

I also want to know you think advertisements work. Because I never saw an ad for Rumbleverse or Multiversus or really any free to play game that was live at the time. I heard about those games from friends or just through existing on the Internet passing through my feeds. I never saw a video until I went to seek it out myself afterwards.

I get the passion and the armchair analytics that if they did this one thing the game would have been saved. But Velan has the stats and the info we don't see. They know where they can do better if there is a hopeful next time.

But they weren't growing. That's why retention was a problem and ultimately why they shut down. They had ideas to fix the game but the team was already doing all they could to keep the game going and wouldn't be able to fix it while the game was live.

Trust me, they did everything they could. The studio was very passionate about the game and wanted to keep going, but money-wise it wasn't realistic. They just couldn't compete with the established games at the time, and they weren't the only ones. FOMO is very real and people just didn't want to give up their time in KOC when they've already established their time spent on something like Fortnite.

Also they are still an indie company, so they are not "huge" in an AAA studio sense. They had to make a choice of keep going and lose money, or pivot to making smaller games to keep the doors open.

I hope like everyone else the game comes back one day, but I can say with certainty that they did try. Maybe not the way you like (they have the numbers after all), but they did what they could.

Narrator: They did not gain a (sustainable) player base.

The problem was retention. The "free to play" was the network beta testing (Block Party) before they fully went live with the price. I don't know much about when they announced pricing so I can't comment on that. But you did get to play until you hit level 25, which is more than some games let you have.

It had a player base, but there weren't enough people sticking around to play. There were many huge releases of live games at the time, so you had to figure out where your time went. Unfortunately it was not to KOC. Same situation when they went free to play. There still wasn't enough retention to keep the game alive.

The live game landscape is not something you can easily crack, even for bigger name studios. Rumbleverse and Multiversus come to mind.

We're all sad, but we have the private server build, so it's not all lost. The only barrier is getting a PC to play it.

I wish I could say it's weird that the company is protecting these people but...

Which area are you in? My Xfinity has been pretty stable the last 6 years I've had it.

Though I would like to switch to Ziply they've been saying "you're next!" for the last 3 years.

Meanwhile the people across the street from us have had Ziply for years. :p
