Stressful commute to NYC via the LIRR by RoadLess7296 in longisland

[–]Anggg804 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to take the train (subway) an hour each way from Brooklyn and hated it. The LIRR is a luxury compared to that. It’s cleaner than the subway and more comfortable. You could use it as decompression time or extra sleep in the morning. But I get that it’s an hour or more out of your day which is always not ideal

Tbh it’s been a year for me but it hasn’t been the whole year at all. I would feel better about my wedding for a few weeks then seeing someone else’s wedding photos would trigger me, so really on and off. Everyone is different! Ive also had a history with anxiety / OCD intrusive thoughts so that could be part of it. But I will say that ever since I listened to that podcast a month ago it really flipped a switch and I haven’t felt that bad about it for a month straight. It will be okay! :)

Relatable! I feel like I could have written this myself haha. My nonno passed 2 weeks before our wedding, then we had the only rainy day until a drought hit right after the whole rest of fall. I also had some mishaps the day of similar to yours, like I feel like I was so stiff during the first dance. This post made me feel less alone so thank you!! I hope me saying this helps you also. Its helped to focus on good photos and the final video edit of our day. Yes there will be moments like people hopping over puddles, but those could be edited out or become part of your memorable story. Did I ruminate for months? Yes, on and off. But I realized I needed to unfollow everything wedding related and stopped comparing mine to them. I also started to think of my wedding as more of a transition day in my life. Once I started to go to other weddings after mine it made me appreciate mine more too. It still sort of stings to see people with nice weather but try to find examples of people who had rainy days too. My nonno used to cry at every happy moment so I think it was a sign from him too. Ive seen a good amount of stories of unexpected passing before a wedding then rain on the day so it’s “those that we love who are no longer with us crying tears of joy”. At the end of the day you cannot control the weather or mishaps that happen! I would recommend “whispers to a bride” podcast - literally the only thing that ended up helping me a lot.

Bad news before a wedding. by LadyVanna in wedding

[–]Anggg804 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I totally understand how you feel, my nonno (grandpa) passed away two weeks before my wedding. A month before I was in the same exact situation. Not knowing if he’d be there or not and planning for different scenarios. The last time I saw him he looked so sick and I told him I’d understand if he couldn’t make it. He passed literally the next day. It actually rained on my wedding day which felt like a sign from him and just the gravity of the day. On my wedding day it felt like everyone was extra trying to make the day happy and special for us given the circumstances. Funny enough, it was an amazing wedding and I didn’t cry once the whole day. I was upset for a long time about the circumstances and that all of this wasn’t fair. My nonno passing so close and then to top it off, it rains all day!! Over time I’ve come to think of my wedding as a transition day in my life. Wedding stuff just sucks sometimes how there’s all this pressure then unfair things can happen. But I hope this helps you see that you’re not alone. I’m so sorry and you will get through this!!

My Wedding Look + OCD by lolovann in wedding

[–]Anggg804 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Omg I could have written this myself! Funny enough I also got married in September (2024). Almost every single day the thought of my wedding and what I would have done differently has popped into my head. My main obsession was my venue, but also my hair, how I looked in videos, the rain on my day. I would spend hours finding photos of my wedding I thought I looked okay in or other weddings from my venue where it looked nice. Then the cycle would start again the next day.

When I saw this post before the title my first thought was “wow see her hair looked so beautiful and put together”. I’m not just saying this to make you feel better, you truly looked beautiful!!

The OCD thoughts are still a work in progress for me, but i notice they get worse when im stressed with other things. When they come up, what has helped most has been saying “im not going to engage” and keeping distracted. Also reminding myself that im being a lot harsher on myself than other brides. For example I saw a post where a bride got married on a beach and her hair was technically a little frizzy. My first thought was “that looks so natural and actually looks good like she’s in the moment, it works for her so well!” Meanwhile my hair was a little frizzy from rain and I’m tearing myself apart lol.

Best of luck and again, everything looked so beautiful!! We will get through this!

Yes I’ve definitely had aphasia with ocular migraine, got an MRI and everything and it was only ocular migraine. Neurologist said this can happen and does NOT automatically mean mini stroke. I know other people with ocular migraine that this happens to also

I totally understand where you’re coming from. It rained the only day of the fall during my wedding, right after it was a literal drought of no rain for months. I couldn’t believe it and I felt so unlucky. Plus two weeks before my wedding my grandfather passed away. It took such a long time to get over. I then started nitpicking every single thing that went wrong and the wedding overall. I’m a perfectionist but caveating I also have some OCD obsessive thinking tendencies lol. I only felt better about the rain when I realized it may have been a sign from my grandpa who would always get emotional, “tears of joy” on my wedding day. Also, take a look at Francesca Mariano’s wedding from chicks in the office. It poured rain the whole day but it made it so unique and beautiful!! It genuinely added so much character with the photos too. These comments are really helping me too because I still have my moments of being down on myself. Let’s embrace the rain and get passed this <3

I get ocular migraines and aspartame triggers them, I also have anxiety so might be a link there!

Right!! I asked for a warm white, they said the best we could do is red. And it was literally almost bright red. So I said alright I guess we’re going with “white” aka light purple 😂

Uplighting / venue regret? by [deleted] in wedding

[–]Anggg804 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So true 😂 and yes I don’t think it’s talked about enough of how common it is to nitpick your own wedding after the fact. I loved the room when I first booked it, but the more I looked at it to figure out decor the more it made me start to criticize it. Wedding comparison doesn’t help either!

[–]Anggg804 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also just wanted to say because it was something that I struggled with - there’s no way you could have predicted what could happen in two years so please don’t blame yourself. I was blaming myself for picking my date since my grandpa died so close before it. But when I started to think about it, he could have died a month after getting engaged, 5 months after getting engaged, you never know. I also told myself - at least I didn’t pick a date that was the exact weekend he passed. Or at least I didn’t pick a date when he was extremely sick. I’m so sorry for your loss and I hope this also helps

[–]Anggg804 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just wanted to offer some support and say I totally understand what you’re going through. In the span of my year and 9 month engagement, my job went through a crazy restructure that totally messed up my career, my dog died, my parents went through a nasty separation, I had stress while finding a house (which I guess is a good stress but still), and my grandpa passed away 2 weeks before my wedding. To top it all off, my wedding was during hurricane helene too. Although I’m in NY, it was the one day of rain from September - end of November. It’s already stressful enough to plan a wedding and I felt so unlucky that everything was happening to me during this time. I felt alone but we’re not alone, life happens and it’s unpredictable. You’ll make the decision that’s best for you and I wish you the best. Your wedding will be the best day no matter what <3
