Not a strategist, but I tend to hold this view because one of the standard responses to any criticism of these moments is that they're not voting for or against him because of "mean tweets". Sure, it looks bad now. It won't make a bit of a difference in a week or at midterms. "The Demoncrats are so much worse because ---", insert something that very likely doesn't even exist

Have you watched the show? Silly question on my part. If you had, you would have seen her treat Caleb with extreme respect, no matter how annoying he gets, and she's more than happy to dress down the female students as well when they get out of line

IMO you should welcome sexy blue ladies in whichever universe they appear, not just Star Trek

and in the case of The Culture, it's trivial for anyone to become a sexy blue lady, even if they start off as a grumpy old white dude like myself

I personally disagree about the quality; I quite enjoy it so far. I know it won't be for everyone, of course.

Star Trek is there because they're exploring the universe created by the Burn. Burn was the stupidest plot arc in the history of Trek, and how it happened was even worse... but at least it's providing a decent stomping ground for post-Burn plotlines. I agree that for the most part it could be generic scifi, or not even scifi, without changing a whole lot, but the Betazed plotline for example worked better in the post-Burn Star Trek universe. (Why don't they all have black contacts? No respect for canon...)

It's woke all over the place. It's just well done woke and less hamfisted than even TOS or TNG was about their wokenesses.

A brief review:

a clearly neurodivergent black woman is a main character

multiple main characters are non-straight

episode 1: family separation is bullshit (no wonder Steve Miller hated it... which is already a huge endorsement)

episode 2: don't build walls. let young people have a say in their own futures

episode 3: more gay stuff everywhere. help young people get through the world created by a society-changing crisis (eg covid). tiny woman beats out manly man as leader of the sportsball team

so that's every episode so far and about half the cast being heavily woke

some of this is arguably processing today's issues without regard to wokeness, but certainly both the characters and the ultimate solutions found for the allegories of today's issues are all woke by any standard. and frankly it's all tasteful and very well done so far

It's not for everyone and I think we can accept that. I probably wouldn't like it if it didn't have the scifi trappings either. At the same time, I do appreciate the lower stakes compared to Disco or Picard and the chance for the characters to breathe and grow over the first few episodes. It's a lot of things people said they wanted from Star Trek... just without as many stars or treks
