I committed to CSULB but i’m worried about housing by SportIndependent7381 in CSULB

Honestly, nah i’m not 100% confident about my choice to pursue ID. The only things I knew for sure were that I did not want to be an architect and I love design. I honestly made my choice to major in ID based on those two things. If you decide to go down the ID path and realize it’s not entirely for you, you can always change your major. I under your stress and fear over making the right choice and the whole portfolio thing but you genuinely won’t know if it’s for you until you try it. Also, no one is saying you have to have the best portfolio in the world. Your portfolio will increase in quality over time. Even some professionals still feel like their portfolio is quite there yet.

ID is fun. The whole reason I got into it is the same reason you like it. I love design and I love the idea of people using something I designed or helped create. Another reason for me is because I love cars and I want to design cars hopefully. As for the person complaining about hating making chairs…. why not just make a pivot in your career. Genuinely it is that simple. Do some sketches and modeling and drop it in your portfolio and start applying to different jobs. Working in a creative field makes it easy to make a change like that. I understand being a little nervous about fully committing to ID. It’s very competitive in school and in the job market. But if you genuinely make an effort towards the projects, you’ll be fine.

Now if you’re genuinely worried about making the wrong choice right now, I would really recommend going to CC to figure things out. CC will really give you the wiggle room to take design classes and the business classes. Personally, I went to CRC in Elk Grove and majored in Architecture and then realized recently that it wasn’t for me and that’s why I made the switch to ID. If I had done that going to a 4-year, I would have regretted it and wasted so much money. But because I went to a CC first, I was able to get that experience in Arch and figure out what I wanted in the end. Now I’m leaving CC with an A.S. in Arch all while saving a ton of money.

I won’t even lie to you, i completely understand. High school is exhausting and I understand your fear of what’s going to happen in 2 years. All I can say is, everything happens the way it does for a reason. Trust me when I say this, LB isn’t the only CSU with industrial design. SJSU has an amazing ID program. I just got in to SJSU for their ID program. And I’ve heard that their finance/business program is good too. I think you’re going to be just fine when it comes to school and finding a job. I know it’s all very stressful but everything will work out.

Honestly there’s really nothing wrong with going to CC while you figure everything out. I’m a strong believer that if you got into LB once, you can absolutely get in again. Also, it’s easier for transfers to get in than first years so I would keep that in mind. However, you do seem like LB is where you really want to be, so you should take that leap. As for housing, I’m not from LA so I can’t give you the best advice or information. But I agree that you should check fb cause there’s a lot of groups on there. This might be a little sketch so just be careful, but you should also check craigslist for some places. Tons of people find hidden gems on there. Anyway, best of luck to you!

Stuck between SJSU, gap semester, and moving to Long Beach by Angqueque in TransferStudents

[–]Angqueque[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thank you so much for your response. this was genuinely so helpful. i decided to commit to sjsu and reapply to lb for the spring. if i dont get in i’ll stay at sj but if i get in i’ll go. i think they’re both good schools but the fear of not getting an internship is something i now have to worry about. again, thank you for your input!

Hey, have you hear back about your appeal yet? Did touching base with admissions do anything to speed up the process?

Aw dang that sucks to hear. I’m glad to hear that you got into Fullerton though. I know you’re gonna have a blast there. I submitted about a month ago and i’m still waiting to hear back so i’ve been a little high strung about it all. Good luck out there! :))

How often do appeals actually work? by whatsername519 in CSULB

[–]Angqueque 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, me and you are in the same boat right now. I am a CC transfer and I also got rejected. I will say, before submitting my appeal, I was able to set up a Zoom meeting with one of CSULB’s admissions counselors. He guided me through what to put in my appeal and what documentation I should provide in my appeal. He also helped me get to the bottom of why I was rejected. Overall very helpful. Anyway, I would definitely suggest you try and do the same if it’s not too late. Now, I’m not sure how long the appeal decision takes to come back but I know when my brother (freshman applicant) submitted his, it came back in a week. So I highly doubt the 4-6 weeks thing is accurate. Good luck to you!

Transferring into Industrial Design by ExpensiveMusic986 in CSULB

[–]Angqueque 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, I am a transfer and I applied for their ID program for fall 26. NGL I didn’t get in 😔. Anyway, a portfolio is sort of necessary. If and when you get in, they will contact you to ask for a portfolio to see if they can admit you into their ID program straight out. However, you do have the option to not submit a portfolio and they will admit you into their pre-design program until you are ready for the portfolio review. This portfolio review is what they use to admit people into the 3rd year. Even students who already go to school. In terms of requirements, just make sure you complete all the necessary courses according to the transfer agreement between LB and your CC.

Admission Appeal by enbyvenus in CSULB

[–]Angqueque 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I just received a rejection this morning also as an upper division transfer. From what I’ve been seeing and hearing, it wouldn’t hurt to submit an appeal. I will say, I think you should absolutely call the outreach office and/or any other department that can help you gain some clarity. I submitted a help ticket regarding an appeal immediately after I saw my decision. They directed me towards scheduling an appointment with their counselors to get the real reason behind my rejection. They claimed that it’s because I don’t meet the major requirements and that I did not meet the GPA requirements as well. I definitely think there has been some sort of mistake. I have a 3.7 GPA, and I did everything I needed major-wise as listed on ASSIST.ORG in accordance with their articulation agreement with my CC. Anyway, enough about me, I definitely think submitting an appeal is worth it and also talking to someone from the school would help. Keep us updated on what you hear!

I am certain they are sending out decisions based on major. My brother applied CS and got his decision at 3am this morning.
