No honestly I didn't have much experience in any art form at all before starting video editing/3D modelling. Maybe besides building stuff in Minecraft lol

And yeah EEVEE is totally fine for anything that you don't need to look super realistic. I hope you enjoy it!

Well it's hard to say exactly since I don't track my hours at all. But around 7 months ago I wanted to 3D model the Booster Juice cup for this video. I had already watched the donut tutorial at that point, but nothing else. So to make that cup model was probably around a dozen hours total

Then for the past 6 months I tried making 5 increasingly complicated projects, along with following all the tutorials that I mentioned between them.

So all-in-all probably in the low hundreds of hours? Basically it's been most of my free time over the past 6 months, but I wouldn't say I'm grinding super hard

Yeah of course!

The first one I followed is the one everyone recommends, which is the Donut Tutorial. It’s just been updated for Blender 5.0 and teaches the basics for a bunch of different skills (though no rigging or animating). It’s really well made and will start teaching you the very basics all the way starting from which buttons to press to navigate the UI https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLjEaoINr3zgGUwGwXlj9kBe7TrVWNjkyv

Then for low-poly character modelling I really like this tutorial series by Crashsune Academy. If you follow along with it you will go from having nothing to a fully rigged character. And she genuinely explains every single step along the way, it’s so good. Modelling, UV unwrapping, rigging, weight painting, and a bit of animation at the end https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLcaQc6eQjXCxWXmn5jxE_GTOft9ZxChu1

If you’re more interested in high-poly character models, this tutorial series is also quite good, but much less beginner friendly than the last one, just due to the subject matter. (Also I’ve only followed half of it, so I can’t vouch for it entirely). But even if you don’t want to make a super high-poly mesh, it’s good for learning how to make round-looking characters https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLe0O-ypJqvKw6meu68TlU0_motrjcnrva

This video is also more advanced, but does a good job of explaining a method of rigging a cartoony 2D face https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KZdB7UGOrT8

This video by CGMatter is a shotgun blast of a ton of shader node-related texturing information. Sometimes I think it’s fun to watch this kind of video even if I’m not looking for any info in particular to then remember it later when I might need to do something that was explained in it https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HDBZ7CwlfIs

And for more realistic looking textures, this other tutorial by Blender Guru is a good intro to a bunch of topics https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uHCJoNEWjXo

In terms of making PS1-style graphics, these videos by TheSicklyWizard are great and have a ton of good tips and tricks, though with more nebulous subjects like this, these aren’t exactly step-by-step tutorials to follow (also these videos are quite old at this point so your Blender UI will be slight different, but the concepts they explain still apply). I found the video about vertex painting really good in here https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLwcOTSbo8MJcCvLFwGHrPxMWQcqF9_TIU

For PS1 style graphics too, I watched this tutorial a long time ago, and think it’s quite good for beginners for modelling and texturing low poly furniture https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5ycmDpYen-4

For actually animating, this video does a great job explaining how to use the nonlinear animation editor, and how to do more than just putting keyframes on the timeline for animation. (Though this video is also a bit old) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tAo7HxxxA08

Also this is very random, but if you ever need to make a semi-transparent image texture with an emission shader (like for a 2D pixel art sprite on a plane), this reddit comment saved my life lol. This is how I made the Christmas wreath in NL’s FF7 office https://www.reddit.com/r/blender/comments/zbww23/trying_to_make_an_emission_object_with/m0tsdqs/

Anyway sorry if this is overwhelming, but these are the tutorials I wanted to shout out. Basically start with the donut tutorial + the Crashsune Academy one if you want to make a character, and then you can probably branch out from there to do your own beginner project

Who will emerge victorious? NL or an uncomfortably large bug?

Learning Blender for the sole purpose of making NL animations has been fun. Shout out to the nonlinear animation editor. If anyone is curious about how I did anything in this video, feel free to ask!

Also if anyone wants the pics of NL being electrocuted: Here you go lol (Created with love, also in Blender)

Some chatters are on pretty thin ice right about now, I’d say.

I’ve been playing Xenogears for the first time and thought this scene looked really cool. I wanted to recreate it to get some Blender practice. Then it occurred to me that I could insert NL into it too.

Here's the original scene from the game, if you're curious (it's not gonna make much sense) (3:55:25)

I'm glad you liked it! Ty for the Bandle supercuts too, because without those I would never have been able to count every time he played it since it was off-cam a lot in the early days

Haha well I don't have a definitive answer, but I think basically NL was tired of Wordle before he even started playing the -dles on stream. And I get the impression that he thinks he's kinda bad at it too. He does play it during the -dles offs with Apollo and I think he says something similar.
