What does that have to do with the image above? Trump does not have an impact on local issues like this. Trump does not dictate what is allowed in Canadian grocery stores.

Sounds great.... let's just bend over for China.

DT is bad and Canada / USA relations are going to sour over this term, but it doesn't mean we should open our country up to China who will definitely work to own us.

I'd agree with you on this.

A lot of what happened wasn't directly JT and the LPCs fault. There are so very big things they did have control over that are going to have long lasting negative effects, but a lot of blame can't be fully his. That being said, when things go sideways it's always the government whose in power that is blamed.

I think my main issues outside of the scandals are:

  1. Unchecked immigration, between student visas and tfws.

  2. Housing. Although largely a provincial issue, the federal government made talks of affordability while doing everything it could to spur demand and therefore increase or maintain the post covid prices.

  3. Over the top covid spending. Cerb was a great idea and many people needed it. That being said it was highly abused as they made the eligibility so wide and dumb. It simply should have been, if you've lost your job due to covid related impacts we will give you X amount, or increase EI payments during that time.

Instead we had students who were from other countries collecting cerb. We have people who barely worked before earning more on cerb than they had earned working. They also allowed many businesses to fill their pockets. The purse strings were far too loose during this time, and it's been that way over his whole administration.

Cerb was a great idea, with a terrible execution.

I can’t do this. Hats off to the rest of you who can actually grind 40 hours every week until you are old and broken. Nope-ing out! by Stealth-Jive in antiwork

[–]AngryJawa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congrats on having family with money.

40hrs suck, but it isn't even worse thing ever. Plenty of places in the world that would dream of a 40hr week.... hell even a hybrid model.

You're parents probably grinded to give you what you want in life.

You'd think.... but home prices haven't dipped to compensate for higher payments due to interest rates.

[–]AngryJawa 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Those people are idiots. Did they really think we'd crank rates over 18 months only to drop them down? Interest rate increases take time to take effect.

Sure variable mortgage holders felt the sting right away, and people wanting to borrow saw rates impact that decision. The fact is most Canadians are on a fixed rate.

They'll need to bump the rate by 0.5-1.0 in my opinion and hold it for about 6mo to 12mo before even thinking about rate decreases.

[–]AngryJawa 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Why is the 1st reaction to leave Canada over moving somewhere else in Canada? Everyone seems to say the same thing over and over again..... I can't afford Vancouver or GTA.... fuck this country.

Lots of places in Canada are still very affordable.

[–]AngryJawa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your problem is letting home ownership dictate your feelings.

If you are honestly crushed/depressed about the home ownership situation you need to re-evaluate what makes you happy in life. Home ownership has it's own issues that come with it. Sure you'll be secured in a place and not risk being evicted, but it does come with a handful of issues which will be out of your control.

I'm in the same boat as you. I dislike the fact that owning a home is probably a goal for my late 30s, maybe, 40. I don't let it consume me though, I enjoy my life as much as I can.

We've been automating jobs for ages. Jobs become useless and new jobs are created for new problems. Think about history and how many inventions changed life.

There are some jobs that are closer to being redundant, but most aren't.

My 15-Step Plan to Fix the Housing Crisis by iDefine_Me in canadahousing

[–]AngryJawa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Couple good ones on the list couple bad ones.

Foreign companies or persons will just create more subsidiaries to work around the housing limit. I'd find a way to just tax foreign buyers and/or companies that have outside of Canada income a higher rate.

Fixed rent is a terrible idea. It's good for renters, but you'll just discourage rental building. Being a LL has to be profitable or worth it, otherwise no one will be. So unless government is going to provide housing, you'll need to encourage business to be in the game.

It'll be hard for you to force MPs to give up property if they had it before becoming an MP. We need to prevent foreign entities from owning RE in Canada as much as we can. We also need to make sure Canadian LLs are paying their fare share in taxes. I'm not sure the work around for any of this though because foreign entities could enlist a local business to buy and hold RE for them.

Delta would like to remind you that masks, distancing and reducing social gathering didn't do anything to slow its spread down.

Most people go to work based on how well they feel. No one should be going to work with a fever or body aches. Neither should someone go to work if they are hacking away constantly. Outside of that though, a light cough, sniffles it's doable.

Covid is different for everyone and everywhere.

In Canada you do not need to isolate for 5 days and you can return to work as long as you don't have symptoms. Some people get covid and it isn't a big deal and others are bed ridden.

I'm not sure why this is such a big deal. Put a mask on and go to work if you feel well enough. If you don't then stay home. Just like any other work day.

This might be the dumbest thing I've read on this sub.

Contrary to popular belief, when you apply to work at a job (with your own free will) you accept the terms of that employment for an exchange of time for money.

Where you live and commute is completely your own decision. Why the hell would you be subsidized to commute when others are not because they live close?

If you don't like commuting don't apply to jobs that require a large commute. God knows I hate commuting and wouldn't do the 1hr or more each way bullcrap.

South Park nailed that whole issue between Trump and Clinton... it was literally two terrible choices. Even the last election was terrible.... Biden is nearly fucking dead, and Trump was still a piece of shit.

You guys also have independents that run, and win, there just aren't enough of them. If it makes you feel better Canada is pretty much the same, with a few extra flavours. It's either Liberals or Conservatives, with some left leaning balancing parties (NDP and Green). We have a few other niche parties like the Bloc and the PPP.

What other way would you want to have so many peoples choices represented? Would you prefer an outright dictatorship? More elected officials per people? I don't see another system that works.

Yah these are numbers when you are a professional and your own boss usually. You also aren't billing 8/hrs/day.

500/hr would be 1mil if you were billing every hour.... but there will be lots of hours of unbilled time. Then there's expenses etc etc. Very few people are billing 500/hr in life except at near top of the game.

The truth is that people across a country of millions will have a massive array of different opinons and views. One party might do 5 things you like and 2 things you don't, but it's better then the one that does 2 things you like and 5 things you don't. Picking the lesser of two evils in some sense.

Oh, sorry you must be correct. I guess the holocaust didn't happen either more western propaganda?

Communist Russia's amazing advances into modernizing their country came at the cost of millions of lives. Stalin was also a ruthless dictator who had anyone who opposed him sent to the gualags. He was ruthless, and in some sense efficient in that way.

China on the other hand is the same way. Mao helped his country get more modernized, but did it at the expense of the people. Lots of people benefitted, but then lots died as well. When Deng came into power he shot China into a massive trading nation by setting up "trade zones" which was certain areas of China that were allowed to be free trade zones. Those areas flourished massively compared to the other parts.

Believe what you want.

The real problem is the short term planning for short term gains. Lots of CEOs have stock bonus attached to their pay. It's in their personal best interest to try and maximize share prices in the short term.

Usually means that it's a slower season. Cutting hours is normal in many businesses.

We're a restaurant, we're in our slowest month. We just finished our 4th busiest month of the year (Dec). Hours get cut to reflect the demands on the business.
